    Sad to see the old layout go but a new chapter is always exciting. I am going to dismantle my current layout in the next 2 - 3 years as we will be downsizing and will start over with a prototype layout this time. Keep up the good work.

    Welcome to HO! Just an FYI, there are soooo many cars out there that fit your era but don't come with the safety stripes since they were also around before that was an FRA mandate. BUT fortunately, a company called Smokebox Graphics actually makes a sticker sheet of reflective stripes that are pre-cut to accurate size and shape, and are actually reflective! They are an excellent product and I have probably gone through about 4 sheets myself. They even work to cover the old red-sill UP locomotives.

    It's a great start. I agree the old layout was beautiful. I'm sure the new HO in Illinois will be great too.

    Nice. I have moved from HO up to O...same thing in terms of fidelity and amount of detail. Of course in O, the real estate issue is a big thing. Good luck with the new layout...I am looking forward to following your progress. Mark

    Nice to hear from you again. It took me a minute to recognize the new channel name on my "Subscribed" list. Looks like a nice order of stuff! Yes, Athearn Genesis need speed tweeks as their out of the box settings are too fast. Athearn did a fine job on the GEVOs in their line - I see you got one that is faded and shows repairs. I was tempted to get one but I have quite a few GEVOs for a modest sized layout (but on the UP they show up everywhere!). One skill to learn is adding some "depth" or "Shadowing" to the air grills and radiators, especially on a GE. Personally I use Tamiya Panel Line Accent flowed into the recesses (also used India Ink in alcohol or thinner). Those Athearn Trinity cars represent a car that is VERY common on UP in my area. Nice cars but be wary of the side sill steps as they break easily (delicate detail comes with a price!). Many HO well cars have plastic running boards but Plano makes some replacements. FRO Conspicuity striping - if your desired car doesn't come with them Smokebox Graphics makes some stick on ones that really reflect, plus Microscale sells sets of decals for them.

    Nice haul. I didn’t realize just how much N scale stuff you had. It must have been quite a tug of war to change to HO scale. I think you made the right decision just based on the heft of HO compared to N and the level of detail due to its size. Hopefully now the trains will rise to the level of the scenery that you have displayed on your layout. I am looking forward to this build as I’m sure you are too.

    When will you start selling you n scale equipment? I am interested in some of the items. Like the idea for the HO layout, I have been in that area and I believe you will capture it very nicely.

    Your table looks like water with your locomotive running in a flooded area. That would be a very good water effect

    I recommend changing your couplers to kadee whether scale head or not they are so much better than the plastic couples some companies use

    Sad to see you've left N Scale Daryl, but if your last layout was anything to go by, your new HO one will be awesome!

    Daryl, I can see your itching to get started. I suspect you and the better half will be living in the basement while the house is still being built above the pair of you. Cheers, Chris Perry.

    The horn sounds great on the Athearn Union Pacific locomotive in HO. Daryl if you have a chance to watch N scale Union Pacific Evanston subdivision episode 82, in the comment section there’s a commenter that has some HO that he still has. I commented to him that he should go to y our channel watch & comment about the HO items he wants to part with, he has gone to N scale due to space & get more area in N scale.

    Please ensure that you use Kadee couplers and replace the plastic couplers in HO. Eventually they will fail. They (kadee) are the Micro Trains coupler of HO. Looking forward to following this new venture that your going on. Until you get used to the size of HO, it will seems as tho it eats up space fast. Yes, in fact it does when you try to make a plausible scene.

    When you reset the Cv's for your speed, keep in mind that these trains (as per your clip @ end of vid) seem to be going a wee bit faster than 35 mph. That thing was hauling. I could feel the wind as it stormed past.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it was clipping along. There's lots of mainline where speeds will be much slower due to grades and curves.

    Hey nice locomotive and cars man and it is cool to see you switch to go scale but it does not hurt to buy used HO. Nice Ho gets extremely expensive quick and the nice you get the more it is. I bought a lot of athearn blue box and proto 2000 stuff. It is older but works fine. I don’t have a lot for him so I make it work but I just don’t want you to get discouraged by it that’s all.

    Great looking equipment Daryl. I’m guessing since you’ll be modeling modern still, you will be running intermodal. Are you planning on basically recreating your N scale layout you just took down? Thanks David

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. While it will be modern UP, it will be mountain west, not Midwest plains.

      @@EvanstonSub oh ok. That’s better yet. Can’t wait to see it develop. I was very inspired by your N scale layout. Particularly global 3’s operations
