Thanks Kev, great informative video. My son and I pitched our tent in that exact same spot, a few years ago now. We went out the same way we went in so it was nice to see you do the Pinchgut alternative as I have wondered what that would be like. 🙂 Cathy
Thanks, Cathy. I enjoyed seeing Pinchgut Hut, but it was a bit of a climb on the way back up. With two vehicles heading out Pinchgut Track would save the legs a bit.
Absolutely brilliant area up there, walked in to the Pinch Gut a few times mainly up the river. But have also walked over from Woodland gully a handful of times. Awesome videos keep up the good work👍
Thanks for this Kev! I just found this channel and think it will definitely be perfect to spend time on. I'm myself defintiely thinking about doing more hikes and campings around the south island, albeit my lack of experience as I have never done this. One thing I wonder though, I never know camping outside a hut is allowed. I assume this is because we're within proximity with the hut which makes that OK Even if we don't sleep in? Thanks for this! Yous are great for making this
Camping outside guts is generally fine, and generally free. Exceptions are huts that need to be booked online, which may either not allow tenting or have specific tent sites that you need to pay for. Bobs Camp is free to camp at
I carry the eggs wrapped up in a bit of paper towel and then in a plastic container. I've never had one break yet, and the paper towel comes in handy if I need to get a fire going.

@@samandkevsoutdooradventures Thanks very much for the info!
Great video Kev. Funny to see as I was just in here last week with Zeb!
It's good to see you making it down to the South Island. I'll keep an eye out on your and Zebs channels in case you drop a video of it.
