This is helpful. One of the advantages of having dogs is that they live in the present moment. They don’t worry about tomorrow nor do they ruminate about yesterday. Sometimes I just watch my dogs when I get very upset about what might happen, as they aren’t worried about it at all. Overcoming fear seems to be the biggest obstacle in healing from my anxiety. I’m sorry to say that I am not very good at overcoming fear, even when I tell myself that there is no point worrying about things that may never happen. Sometimes I just feel fear and don’t even know what I am afraid of that might happen. It is random general fear, fear of living. I wonder if other people with depression, anxiety and phobias are also paralyzed by these fears that seem to have no source. A video I watched this week talked about anger being at the root of many people’s depression or anxiety, and I do have anger about all sorts of things that have happened in my life. So, I am working on learning to put that anger in the past where it belongs instead of letting it ruin my present. It is very difficult!

You are so right. My Lab had surgery 11 days ago and had to wear the plastic cone around her head for ten days to keep her from licking the incision or hurting her stitches. It was amazing how fast she got used to it within one day’s time and even didn’t fret about me putting it back on her when I took it off so she could have a short break here and there because she was already used to it. I find it helps to spend a period of time, maybe ten minutes, really FEELING your anger and then try to let it go. Re-hashing it in your mind over and over again is harmful and keeps you stuck in that angry emotional state.

@@lissarx2459 Thank you for the advice. I will try your method. It seems similar to my effort when I'm upset to put aside time for a pity party, like 30 minutes, and just let loose with my frustrations. I'm usually done before the 30 minutes are up and feel better. So, follow a similar thing with my anger. My dad had a terrible temper and I think I inherited it. It is not as bad as it used to be but I think I have issues that are unresolved and so my therapist has given me homework to name my anger and write a letter to it. Writing a letter to my deceased parents helped me forgive them. I hope your dog has healed well! Mine use their cones as weapons and shovels when they have to wear them. I have bruises shaped like arcs on the back of my calves from being rammed. Every dog I've had has done it. They get a smirk on their face when I say Ouch as they seem to find my reaction hilarious! You are so right that they just adapt.

Sometimes it's also helpful if we think that "this too shall pass". Because staying in the present often implies that you are stuck with your thoughts while affirming yourself that your thoughts too shall pass, then it feels better.

Please remember to not skip the ads, Douglas only gets a few pennies each time, but they do add up!
You're looking great, Douglas, and seeing and hearing you this morning is just what I needed.
The last couple of weeks have been bizarre, and considering how weird my life was already, that's saying something!
I've been sick since May 5th. I'm sure it's Covid because I don't know what else it could be, and the on-call nurse at my insurance company agrees.
Yesterday I found an online company that will mail me an at-home swab test and insurance covers it. There's no testing sites within 30 miles, and I still feel too dizzy to drive safely so that's a big help!
I've been sick 18 days now, but I'm lucky that I have the "mild" version, though it sure didn't feel mild when I was gasping for breath and losing touch with reality. I didn't know at the time that delirium is one of the symptoms.
One morning I woke from a horrible nightmare but thought it really happened and couldn't stop crying. Even though I was having trouble walking, I stumbled outside, still sobbing, to find a shovel to bury my 4 baby goats because I believed they had all been killed by "murder hornets". When I got to their pen and saw them safe and playing happily, I fainted from being overwhelmed with emotion. I still tear up when I think about it.
The scariest thing about it is not knowing how sick I was going to get, so my anxiety was off the charts from my mind projecting and playing all those worst-case scenarios like a constant horror movie.
Living in the present and occupying my mind with positive things is the best thing I can do, along with drinking LOTS of water with lemon and a little raw honey.
I love to learn new things, so since I couldn't do much else except watch videos (my head hurt too much to read). I limited watching the news to 15 minutes a day, mostly to check weather and local news but avoiding politics.
I found videos about botany, especially the desert plants that live out here in the mountain desert that have been used for centuries by Native Americans. Fascinating the variety of wonderful plants up here where there's no Round-up and insecticides.
I learned that the pretty bush with the little yellow flowers I love so much is pineapple weed, a wild chamomile that smells wonderful (now that I can smell again!). It's most beneficial for it's calming effect, reduces anxiety! I literally have the medicine I need growing right outside my door, and it's much safer and more pleasant than taking pills!
The Great Creator provides us with what we need, but we have to look and learn. Those little flowers are an unexpected gift for me!
My anxiety will be less now that I won't be as worried about contracting this, but I will focus on keeping others safe from me now. I ordered a couple of face shields to wear along with a mask, and I'm making masks that are much better than the cheap, ineffective dust masks I was wearing when I caught this. Cuter, too.
I'm going to try making different designs, like some designed for men with beards out of "manly fabrics" like the Harley Davidson and Ford truck print I already have. Maybe the guys will be more likely to wear a mask if it's got a dose of "testosterone"!
I also want to try making ones with a clear vinyl window over the mouth to help people who are hearing-impaired who need to be able to read lips. I think those would be great for essential workers, like cashiers and police.
Finding ways to help gets me out of my own head and makes me feel like I have some control. I don't have money, but I can sew! This will cost me nothing but time since I have a tremendous stash of cotton print fabrics.
Sorry for rambling, but that's how I am... annoyingly loquacious! Also, I'm so happy that I'm recovering.
Please take this seriously, folks, I underestimated how contagious this virus is and there are many more people not wearing masks out there now and not distancing. I learned that I'm not nearly as tough as I thought I was.

    • @rustyrefill6449
      @rustyrefill6449 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

OMG, Lazy I, that is so scary. I think I would have been beside myself with fear after fainting as you describe.
For so many people with health anxiety, the whole virus thing is truly scary. The fact that it could be asymptomatic just adds to the tension.
I'm so glad to hear you have made it through and that you are devoting your time to helping others.

Hi...I watch mr. Tolle's videos too!!! & have watched the one you mentioned & it too, had a profound effect for me. So wonderful!!! I fully understand your fear of a reoccurring medical issue, altho, mine is a physical fear. I have a 100% blocked left front artery in my heart. Now, I've had 3 heart attacks, 1 episode, 7 cardiac stents. If I have another attack/episode, a by-pass is the answer, if I live. This is a minute by minute absolute fear!!! Staying in the present, trusting the Lord & breathing meditation has been a saving grace during these surreal days/months 🙏 you seem strong, in control, good health...so, keep the FAITH in the Lord, in present self & keep on biking 🚲
Blessings for you to be & stay safe 🙋‍♀️

Hey Douglas! Thanks for sharing this video... started having very bad derealisation and depersonalisation in the last couple of weeks since tapering off trazodone but my intrusive thoughts are now about my perception of reality which I keep questioning. This creates my mind to zone out and causes much of the fear and anxiety.. trying my hardest to get through but it’s been horrendous

Hope things are better for you now? I'm nearly at the end of a diazapam taper and found the derealization to be the worst withdrawal symptom, and this was with a very slow, gratual taper. We go through waves and windows while our brains are healing and finding the correct balance again. If you need any other support or info on what you have experienced/experiencing then try "The lovely grind" TH-cam channel, the guy has been through it too and is very positive. Take care and God Bless.

Rach Picks thank you for your reply! I am so much better now than when I wrote this 4 months ago.. I’m still recovering but my head is more aware and conscious of myself and the derealisation has gone. What you said is absolutely true about how there are waves and windows of the recovery process. Your brain naturally will heal but it takes time and it’s just a case of two steps forward, one step back! 🙏🏻

@@stephengreico2810 I’ve dealt with trauma since single digits and functioned, but once my physical health went downhill no one could help me. Especially after an ER incident when I thought I was dying due to yet another undiagnosed illness. I’ve discovered there are different types of ptsd. There are some after an event that once you deal with it and know it won’t happen again you can try to move past it and the flashbacks. Medical ones that involve getting your heart restarted that you know will happen again, how do you deal with that? When you know you still have to go back to the battlefield? And it could be anytime.
I have a therapist etc, but he does nothing that helps, just listens. I have heard that EMDR is good but with this past years events everything has been put on hold and just made my medical problems much worse, mentally and physically.

We never got to meet as we lived thousands of miles apart, but we were the best of friends. Some of the nicest people I’ve met were online. I’m also good at listening, it’s very hard for people who don’t suffer to understand.

You mentioned that you have struggled with being able to sleep for years. I have had that problem for decades. As I have gotten older, I have let it keep me from enjoying life. I am so afraid of not being able to sleep that I rarely make plans or travel for fear of feeling bad from lack of sleep. I realize that my biggest obstacle to not sleeping is the fear that I won't sleep. I was wondering if you have had any success with your sleep problem that you could share.

There's a lovely meditation video game, called PLAYNE, google it and you'll find it. I'm eager to recommend it to anyone who wants to make meditation into a habit- it encourages you to, by making your campfire burn brighter with each consecutive day of meditation.
It has plenty of options on which scenery to meditate in, gives you breathing exercises and allows you to click the mouse when a thought comes to mind so as to let go of it.
