It's always like this, lol I am not against this concept, but when the author repeats the same dialogue structure over and over again, he is basically insulting the intelligence of his audience. If you don't know how to write dialogues, then don't use this every time to solve conflicts ffs
@@RRRRRRRRR33 Spoilers for Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but Envy here is a perfect representation of the "realistic" audience who cannot accept Sasuke, Obito, Pain, Orochimaru and maybe some others being forgiven for their sins (by "just talking") - th-cam.com/video/-HwPhoIHK-Y/w-d-xo.html
I mean, you gotta look at the hipocrisy of naruto-fans-gone-haters. They forgot what brought them in the first place, leading them to later hate Naruto. And this video brings it up. It really is a talk no jutsu.
It may not be flashy, but talking it out is actually core to Japanese martial arts. The founder of my Jujitsu dojo always said you haven't truly defeated your enemy until you've made them your ally.
Reminds me when Mr Dorian suddenly become retarded because he got talk no jutsu by Ritsu when the guy said "you've never won a battle" Pretty fascinating about Baki fights isn't it?
not just japanese. I learned shaolin kung fu. My teacher said similar. Avoid conflict, but stand your ground when necessary. I remember there was one situation that had gotten out of hand. My trainer wasn´t mad at me for using my fists. He was mad at me for not even trying to talk to the guy i knocked out. it was an extreme situation. my girlfriend was severely ill. her bones were weak as shit. broke her arm with a hug once. and that guy threatened t obeat the living shit out of he.r there was no debate whether a single punch would kill he.r it totally would. Word against word so the headmaster was worthless. Meaning i had to deal with the situation. And i took violence. My trainer was not happy. Absolutely not. I never did more push ups in my life than that evening. It would have been okay for my teacher if i tried to talk to him. not threaten him, talk to him. Well a threat would have been after talking to him and then using force, but the first step should have been "talk to him" and Thomas did not let anything slide along the lines of "there´s no use talking to this guy anyway". I didn´t try i couldn´t know. And he was adamant about this in every situation unless the other party threw a punch first. and even then: as much force as necessary to protect ourselves. That could mean fatal force if we couldn´t save ourselves in any other way, but if we can restrain our attacker with easy and we break every bone in his body, we´re out. The best fights are the ones not fought.
Not only that, it's a perfect summary of some of the largest character arcs through Naruto's growth and thus the show itself. 700 episodes summarized in 50 minutes ;)

@@andrewdasilva7786 Honestly, I don't understand you. Naruto is one of the greatest for sure and you just full of hatred for no reason. You don't like that naruto is kinda dumb? Umm, Kishimoto didn't like very smart characters and anyway, why? If a character is not smart enough to your vague definitions, does it mean he's bad? Not good enough? And.. emotional crap? What do you want from this anime, to be a dry piece of I-dunno-what? And this point about clones? Yeah, Kishimoto did say that he shouldn't've added such a powerful thing at the begining of the anime, but then what? Truly, not very thought out, but try and create a story with such a scale without flaws, I would've looked into that. He's not boring, he's a persona, he's got his story and that's the way he is. He was simping for quite a long time, but as any person he changes and he changed by the end, though not completely. Naruto remained the same person, persued his goals til the end. And what is wrong with screaming his rivals' names?.. He is a child after all, something like 14 in the first season and 17 in the second. Honestly, this is just your opining, surely fueled very distinctively by hatred and stuff. You're just mean. What anime do you really watch? How a person like U can really appreciate any other piece of art if you can't simply appreciate such a vast anime like naruto. It may not appeal to you, that's ok, but what's the reason for so much shouting and cursing for something you don't even care? Millions of people do care--so think about it before hating something, especially if you can't see, can't comprehend why people love it. You can say that i'm just a blind fan of this anime, and yes, you'd be right, in a way. Good ppl are able to appreciate and see, and that's all. I appreciate any piece of work even if i don't like it.. Have some respect, Naruto is not that bad. And the main question is: what do you appreciate?

Kato but neji was correct to say it to naruto because hes asura. While neji surpassed hinata but she wasnt done growing who knew who would win in shippuden. Hinata is strong as fuck now.
Orochimaru is still quite amoral though, he's not good or evil and never was. Naruto never convinced him, nor did Sasuke really, at the end of the anime he's still experimenting and testing for his own desires. Naruto can convince evil characters, but not all "villains".
JaxBlade who had good heart but his mind is not smart. He was destined to be great he touched hearts simply but his own blood still gives him war. As reincarnation of ootsuki he is still attacked by his original blood. Its uplifting but hes still wrong. If rick lee became hokage then he was right. If youre an alien god jinchuriki son of the 4th then no that whole change your destiny talk was a bold faced lie he told
James White - Wow your comments are hard to read. Anyway, Neji was wrong. He was not forced to die for the main branch, he chose to die for Naruto and Hinata because he cares so deeply for them. Also both Naruto and Sasuke broke destiny because their Destiny as the reincarnations of Asura and Indra were to forever continue the battle that will leak into future generations. However, they broke the cycle of battle between the brothers and therefore opposed destiny.
i like it, I don't really know for what reason Kishimoto used the talk no jutsu, but I believe problems aren't solved by fighting they're only temporarily gone, real solutions come from an understanding of each other's thoughts and calm, open-minded, honest discussions.
Yea i kinda agree with you but u can't expect everyone just to go with that way of dealing problems. there will always be someone who won't agree with what your saying and there will always be disputes among us. And that's wat makes us human. When the day everyone agrees with everything will be the day everyone will stop being human. Cause to be human is to not be perfect but try to perfect yourself to the best of your abilities. And for some people (like criminals), why is there way of living wrong but for a nice person who doesn't do bad things and do good deeds all the time way of living is right? These are questions I try to answer but always never get the answer. And let's say 2 countries go to war and they kill the kids in eachothers respective village so they won't grow up and and make there enemies army stronger. Is it bad that there only doing that to protect there village and there families?

my biggest issue with naruto is how after the neji fight naruto does not check up on hinata in the hospital even though the last thing they heard was she is going into cardiac arrest after he pushed her so hard and he then made his vow but he does not think to go look at her?.....and how he does not think to check up on her and she just happens to show up in his life before the neji fight when he was not even looking for her and then he ignores her until he again bumps into team 10 on accident in shippuden after years and then we don't see her again until the itachi pursuit mission something naruto did not create so its luck they meet up again and then theres the pain moment which again naruto has no control over she just shows up and he does not thank her after ...then you have the war his clone saves her she helps him vs the ten tails...but then after she escapes the dream world cacoon the only time you see naruto and her again in the manga is at neji's funeral...and they don't talk..just like at the hiruzen funeral or when he left the village...and they don't talk in the final episode of shippuden really..he says one word to her...smdh as they are getting married..he says ready or something ..smdh..really?..its just weird to me how naruto forgets hinata exists in the manga...she just happens to show up in his life ..same thing in the last..he was totally not going to date her or seek her out..she came to him then he saw her memories thanks to a lucky genjutsu...and then the rest is history
I thought I was the only person who understood this about Naruto and understood why the dialogue is damned near the heart and soul of the series. (Coupled with the character of the heroes.) I'm surprised that you understood things about it that I hadn't even thought about. I understood that battles in Naruto are conflicts between the philosophies of the characters, but I didn't think of the idea that the losing character loses because of an inner contradiction. I thought just the better philosophy won out in the end. (Naruto's.) You've got a new subscriber. :P
Thank you two for making me feel like I'm not the only one who appreciated the dialogue. I personally find purely evil characters to be a bit.... boring and an old way of thinking. This is better storytelling imo. Just think about having to write the series. You would literally need to setup a big philosophical/ethical dilemma and create arguments/counter arguments and finally, come to your own conclusion that millions of people would read. Kishimoto has problems as a manga creator, but his writing is one of the best if not, the best in shonen history.
I love talk no jutsu because wanting it or not, the villains are still PEOPLE. They have feelings, thoughts, experiences and motivations. If you can get into it, and they are somewhat wrong, with the right conversation they WILL change, or at least weaken. They are not objects to be punched and broken by our heroes. Every villain Naruto converted had some connection with him and them found themselves with him or saw the truth from a different perspective, other than the desperate and manipulated one. They are *not* absolute, not to change. Treating your characters like people are the best thing an author can do.
I never got into Naruto so I don't have a formed opinion on Talk no Jutsu, but damn if I can't respect the amount of effort that clearly went into this video regardless.

Dont watch boruto first no matter what. Also before you watch Naruto please dont skip to many filler episodes instead just make a list of them (ask someone online) and skim through them when ever you notice to many of them jammed close to each other. I watched and re watched the series with its fillers because I had the time and there barely were any shows I was interested in back then but i dont think you should do the same (there are way to many shows you should watch instead of the fillers). On the other hand Boruto will never be as good as Naruto because you cant make the show that exciting and dangerous with two god like characters walking around. So you probably wont even see any good development till Boruto grows up which takes long af. Also the shonen aspect in Boruto is complete ass since the characters always find a new trick up their sleeve 50 episode+ in . Even the creator said he has done everything he wanted with Naruto story in 699 chapters . Even if kishi has given him some advises here and there ,it would be just FANFICTION.
Little fun fact. Neji had a fatalistic world view because of his eyes, in part. His special sight allowed him to see people's inner chakra, so he studied people a lot and was able to find lots of patterns in behavior and results due to what he sees inside of people. That is why when Naruto convinces him that he can control his own fate, he sees a bird gliding in the wind. He can see the chakra within that bird and saw how it was gliding on the wind, and it was something he never saw before. The visual aspect of the bird freely gliding represented freedom from fate, and Neji saw this being visually represented as Naruto was verbally expressing it.
the ironic thing is, fast forward to the end of Naruto, Neji was right about destiny determines fate. Don't believe me? Think about the power Naruto and Sasuke have and think how much of it has to do with Destiny or inheritance?
@@Shootingfoul If that was the case then why didn't the show end with either Sasuke or Naruto dying? That was their whole destiny, the reincarnatons of the sage's son fighting until one of them died. Neji's death was similiar to how his father died, he didn't die becouse he was destined to, he died because he chose to sacrifice himself for his brother. Neji could have, you know, not taken the attack from Obito to protect Hinata. Hinata didn't force him, no one did. It was at that moment he chose his own destiny and died protecting Hinata, like how his dad did.
@@boidoo3191 It was never destiny for the sage's sons to kill each other it was just a grudge/conflict that would always happen between them throughout generations that "could've" lead to either one dying! "The children of prophecy" is a prime example of how Neji was right 2 ninja "sasuke" & "naruto" were destined to do great things despite them working towards that goal! The concept of Kekkei genkai is also another nod to nejis point about those who are born being geniuses! Naruto was not only a child of prophecy but was born from the uzumaki which resulted in him having abnormal amounts of chakra from birth! A clear advantage that most ninja dont have! The only one who proved neji wrong was Rock Lee due to the fact that he was the true underdog that naruto never was & proved that you can be something even if you are from nothing by working hard! But, even then hard work has its limits compared to those chosen by fate "naruto & sasuke" being the stronger than Lee despite him working harder than them for example!

Pains speech literally brings me to tears every-single-time. Naruto was the first anime I got into. I watched every episode and filler (God help me) and this will forever me my favorite moment. Pain turning Naruto (a person who had such conviction and someone I looked upto at that point) into a mute, I lost it. Its like Pain was talking directly to me.
I too have experienced pain... That sums up ALL the talk no jutsu moments. Every antagonist in this series is the same damn thing, they all are in pain, here comes bishop naruto and repeats the same demagoguery over and over and over again. That's not how dialogue works, we were all children when the author started this crap, lol That's why we only noticed this obvious literary flaw much later
@Jkong Hong oh sure, an amount of events... Like obito, wants to destroy the world because his friendzone died. Then, he wants to live in a dream world with his friendzone, that is his final plan. And guess what argument brought him back to the light? There's no major antagonist in modern shonen with a worse backstory than Obito
@Jkong Hong tragic, lol don't be ridiculous. He is incredibly badly writen. Not only him, but pretty much the entire cast. Gaara: momma doesn't love me, so I will kill for love. Sasuke: brother doesn't love me, so I will hate everything. Obito: my friendzone doesn't love me, so I will destroy the goddamn world. The author tried to direct part of the blame for the "shinobi system", but he failed tremendously. There is no system, it is a mess, villages attack each other for no reason, there's no logical background. The little neji flashback is the perfect example, the village dynamics makes no sense whatsoever. This is the "system" obito wants to destroy... Just as bad as the friendzone justification. And this nonsense about madara "manipulation", this is a obvious gimmick. Everyone is manipulated, obito manipulated pain, but oh wait, madara manipulated obito.. But wait, zetsu manipulated madara, but wait... Kaguya manipulated zetsu, etc, etc... Such a shitty story

Wow; I've never really read or watched much Naruto analysis before so maybe much of this was already floating out there, but watching this video has transformed my understanding of the subtext and philosophy of the series. I can't believe it's possible to construct such a coherent and rational throughline for the progression of Naturo's character and ideology as well as the increasing complexity of his opponents, and as a rationalist I love the idea that all of these conflicts are ultimately settled by logical philosophical debate, characters being willing to abandon even their most deep-set ideologies when it's proven to them beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have a fallacious foundation. I went back and re-watched the episode where Naruto wins over Nagato, and I hadn't really understood what'd convinced him the first time I saw it, but now I can watch it in terms of the subtextual meaning of each chunk of their exchange and it MAKES. SO. MUCH. SENSE. Bravo, sir; you've given me a much deeper appreciation of Naruto, and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts in the future!

What’s interesting about talk no jutsu, is that Kishimoto seems to have been inspired by Rurouni Kenshin when it came to villains changing ideals through words, which makes sense considering Kishimoto has stated that he was influenced by Rurouni Kenshin as he read it during college. So Kenshin could really appeal to you as its the predecessor to Naruto in a way, the difference is that I think Kenshin was executed better due to it being shorter but that’s my opinion, and that’s not even to shit on Naruto as I think Naruto did a lot right as well.

This is one of my favorite analysis videos of Naruto ever. You've just earned yourself another sub for sure. You talked about this motif perfectly and managed to flawlessly go in depth into it and delve into whatever else it branched off to in the entire series while keeping your focus on the main thing, Talk no Jutsu. You kept it interesting , informative and consistent despite how long the video was. That was 46 minutes of my life that was worth it. This anime series is a masterpiece as a whole in my opinion. A work of art (literally and non-literally). Thank you for the nostalgia and making me love it even more.
"FLAWLESSLY"?????? There are so many things that are wrong with this analysis and most of the things that he got right are just basic ass statements. He said that Naruto's ideal remaining consistent during that Neji fight? Before that fight even began, we saw Naruto a bunch of times just always relying on his fox powers. He said that hard work beats talent, but he is just as a hypocrite here as Neji was with his battle with Hinata. He said that he works hard but he is a guy who hates studying and hates learning ninja techniques? Hell, this guy was not even familiar with the world "chakra." Instead he cheat his way in and steal the scroll for the multi shadow clone which jutsu he was just able to pull off because of his innate talent (fox powers with his dad's Yellow flash semen and her mother's continent-level chakra egg cell) and not because of fucking hard work. You know who worked harder than anyone else in this series? Rock fucking Lee who did not have any power at all and worked his way up by working very hard and training until his bones cracked. The only stark difference between Naruto and Neji's ideals during the Tournament Arc was that, at the middle part of Shippuden, it proved that Naruto was spouting bullshit and that Neji was right, talent beats hard work. Who has the most chakra at his disposal wins the fight since they are the ones who can generate nuke-level powers. Neji's ideal is the real essence of Naruto. You're useless garbage if you don't have talent (strong genes, eye powers, tailed beast powers)
Naruto is just easy to shit on by people who don't understand or people who got tired of waiting weekly for episodes of filler which is definitely relatable, but I think overall it's very enjoyable.
Talk no jutsu was the best part of the series for me, after I look at it after years of watching Naruto. The chills and nostalgia the scene where he talks the Antagonist down is amazing,I mean Naruto vs Haku or Naruto vs Neji are so memorable due to the talk no jutsu present in it.
It's good in some fights, trash in the rest. YES! The battle with Neji was memorable because of the talk no jutsu. But at the end of the series, that fight became the biggest joke because of the same talk no jutsu. Neji said fate exists and it's useless to fight it, Naruto said it doesn't. Well, guess what? Naruto is the fcken child of prophecy and Neji died for Hinata (the main Hyuuga line member). Neji was right, Naruto was a hypocrite. Naruto was destined to be a great figure because he's the child of prophecy and the fcken reincarnation of a ninja primordial god or smth. And Neji died doing what was expected of him as a side line of Hyuuga, to protect the main line of Hyuuga: *Hinata.*
this may be the best naruto analysis video i have watched. while i enjoy memes on "talk no jutsu", i never really understood it. always thought that there is clearly more going on than naruto tells his enemies, "i am right, you are wrong" and just talks them out of their ways. just so much more contexts behind it than just plot conveniences, or him magically convinces them by motivational speeches. well done.
This video is the reason i love Naruto the anime and the character sooo much. Thank you for making the characterization more clear and giving your views on it
To me this plays off the reliability of Naruto as I remember a time when I was on familiar downhill spiral in my life. Losing faith in the idea I had set up my life to be as at that time I had nor the willpower, nor the motivation to push my ideals of the optimistic mind set I had made for myself to follow. Soon I realized my laziness and boredom undermined the ideals I had strived to follow in my life which threw me into a depressive state. In which I hated everything about my life as instead of realizing my hypocrisy and then trying to better myself I went through a stage of self pity and regret. This in turn led to my downfall for a few years and it came at the possible worst time in my development as at this point I had run out of time to just rely purely on my mind for the ability to pass school. Because now I had to try harder putting in more effort and then I instead chose to try even less than before. This led even further points in my downfall with friends and family failing to connect with me on a emotional level as they either didn’t care enough to try and connect to me or did not know exactly how to connect with me. So over time as I thought more and more about my life I realized that no one else is to blame for my failure to be a hard working man and that I was to the one to be at fault. But at the time it did nothing to change my actions. Soon though when I had time to recuperate my thoughts during the summer I gained spikes of motivation through happy moments which in these moments I would think about self betterment and how to make myself a happier person. This led to instead of letting my family try and help me to me trying get help for myself getting a therapist and then through hard work I was able to rehabilitate making me a better person. Because now I actually began trying in life instead of letting it go past me. Sorry for making my story really long and if it got somewhat sloppier a bit at the end because I’m tired and this is at 2 AM. But this story just shows the relatability of Naruto as the story of Naruto parallels my story in a way where it’s basic situations can compare to a normals persons emotions and situations. As if I were to be honest parts of Naruto led me to the conclusion of that I was the problem. I made sure to try my best and make sure the video sounds at least somewhat like the statements I made so you can think about the situations and maybe even compare them to your own. Sorry about dumping my emotional stuff into the comments it’s just that Naruto hits me in the feels when I compare it to my emotional points in my life and this video just hit me in a strong way when it was talking about the ideals of people and how they can be hypocrites at some points when it comes to their ideals. To say sorry one last time is that the whole story may just come off as edge and dumb but even though it may be that I’m happy you read so thank you. *edit Sorry forgot to mention that this video is really well put together showing off how well the conflicts of Naruto bounce of each other and make a compelling story showing off each of the characters ideals and just how scary and real some of their thoughts might be. So just good job too!!
No I understand, I have been in a similar situation. I can relate to Sasuke been in a similar situation only less deathly It's why it feels weird understanding and feeling empathy with Sasuke. While the entire fanbase is telling how worthless he is. Could have used a 'Naruto' in my life.
I think what makes talk no jutsu so great is that Naruto had every reason to be evil, just like his villains. But unlike them, he doesn’t let his past effect his personality or future in a negative way, and that’s why he’s so inspiring, both to those he talks to, and the audience.
That’s not actually true. Naruto admitted he hated the villagers and tried to take revenge on them, the only reason Naruto is not evil is because of his comrades, if it wasn’t for Iruka, Naruto could’ve been like Obito or Garaa.
@@Michelle-pd3ke but Naruto did let his past affect him tho, but he copes with his comrades. Literally at the start of the series, Naruto stole the forbidden scroll, he was he going hurt the villagers, but Iruka’s speech changed his mind. Funny how people seem to think Neji was right in the end. Naruto kept fighting destiny up to the very end. Indra and Ashura were always meant to fight and kill one or the other to the bitter end. They were meant to reincarnate to keep replicating that destiny but Naruto fought that destiny and ended the chain. He fought that one thing he was literally destined to do: to be part of a never ending sibling rivalry. So if we're talking about destiny being pre-determined, Naruto just kicked that in the balls by finally settling things right with his counterpart: Sasuke.

I can Say Some Scenes with talking is Good & like u say it’s legendary but Tbh it’s soo boring I watch Naruto Talking Scene is Good but some Scenes don’t need to be talking all the time that’s what’s makes me Turn off about the show and the manga. No talk no Jutsu is Plot armor itself. The whole Entire Villains we have deal with no Talk no justu there’s no Real Good villains that Actually won a battle that Challenge the main Protagonist, and protagonist Partner that whats makes me mad about the story. When things not going on what Naruto “Wants” no Talk No justu will do the trick like the last Resort. Don’t get me wrong but the battle with Haku & Zabuza is perfect for No Talk no Jutsu to have that moment of Naruto his ninja way and let it be known and that’s it end of the arc. And also No talk no justu is really annoying it doesn’t Get you on the feels it always Telling “Oh hey I’m going to talk you out of it”. I haven't watched an actual episode of naruto in awhile. I just look up theroy videos, crack videos, or anything else. But watching this made me realize what I felt watching the original naruto. It makes me want to fully watch it again. So thank you.
I personally thought the fight with kakuzu was a way for naruto to begin to understand sasuke like he failed to do so in the past. Like you said naruto when he tried to retrieve sasuke never really tried to understand him, more so forcefully bringing him back without acknowledging his side. So by rejecting the help of his comrades which was the path he always took, he instead went down the path sasuke choice by rejecting bonds and attaining power by himself. By doing so he gained a deeper understand of sasukes path by experiencing it himself however little it might be. This is just my thoughts and I could be wrong.
I am glad someone else gets it. its not just a talk no jutsu its the running theme of the naruto series of self fulfillment nd self evaluation which is a theme that ran from the beginning with Indra and asura all the way into naruto and sasuke. both side have strong resolve to believe there motives and approach being right bt what wins out is the will ENDURE through the suffering and remain true to yourself, as stated by hashirama and the last few lines of the show by Sasuke, "shinobi r those who endure"!
It is kinda sappy... but hearing Naruto actually give a damn about people in a world what was so critical...was something to behold. Everyone in Naruto tries to convince him to be cruel or emotionless, they try to convince him to become a monster. But he never gives in. He is broken, and looses so much but always believes his "ninja" way. Ironic...he makes a terrible ninja...but a great leader and hero
You dumb? Naruto tried to kill Haku. Naruto was willing to kill Gaara if he needed to. Naruto tried to kill Deidara and Itachi. Naruto was willing to murder Pain and even planned on killing Nagato before changing his mind. Naruto did attempt to kill Obito as well, using deadly techniques with the intention to kill him, before Obito changes himself. Naruto IS willing to kill, but he doesn't kill people who have changed for the better, and lets them atone for their own mistakes. Funny, he doesn't kill people who are trying to become better people.
@@lisaanderson976Naruto was a terrible ninja because by the "instrument of death" definition of the current desire of all shinobi naruto did more than fall short of greatness but stood as a totem of disregard for truth and destiny. In other words a total failure.
I like how on a small scale this also applies to Shikamaru in Part 1. His sexism is first validated with an easy victory over Kin, then challenged by Temari and ultimately disproven by him losing to Tayuya and then getting saved by Temari at the last moment. It is also cool how even when he fights alone Narutos style basically simulates teamwork with his clones, plus the actual teamwork with his summons and Kurama.
I geuss sasuke was right about Naruto and shadow clone jutsu. Its the jutsu that had covered up his loneliness. Sure there's the physical way because it makes tons of naruto's but there's also the mental way. Naruto tried so hard to master that jutsu because it was the very jutsu that he felt aided in perpetuating his loneliness. He couldn't use it when everyone else in the academy could, and being that he was already an outcast having his peers look at his weak abilities as such made him feel even more lonely. And yet the poetic justice in that jutsu is it has been used and is now always used to protect those dear to him. I mean remember the scene where naruto made the hand sign for it when all hope was lost against madara and Obito. And then the shinobi allied forces showed up. Showing that naruto was no longer alone, he didn't have to rely on himself (or in the clones cases copies of himself) he had an army of friends and allies right behind him now.

@@andrewdasilva7786 i don't want to begin the debate but... you truly did not understanded Naruto's characters' mindset at all. I'm 99% sure you didn't see the video before commenting because if you do, then what do you don't understand??? Kishimoto said absolutly EVERYTHING about this show so it makes sense, what is wrong with that???
I first want to start off that I really appreciate all the receipts that are shown via clips from the show, all in Japanese so that it's possible to actually hear word-for-word what the characters said. Additionally, the persuasive tone I think was really effective, and I saw and noticed things about my own understanding and experience with Naruto that I hadn't before and I have this video to thank for that. Now, tbh I don't outright disagree with the thesis behind this per se. Rather, it's the conclusion that I disagree with, that Kishimoto is a genius writer. Specifically, I'm assuming that the conclusion is that the decisions and methods that he chose to display these ideological battles shows his High tier level as an author. I disagree. The issue that has become more clear to me after watching this is that Kishimoto intentionally puts Naruto's ideals on a pedestal, I'm assuming because he shares them. After watching this, I'm convinced that in the instances you mentioned (Neji, Nagato, Obito), there was some underlying hypocrisy, as you so succinctly put it, in each of the antagonist's flaws. But that said, I want to emphasize that the their losses (particularly Neji's) had a lot to do with their own fallacies, rather than Naruto's rock-solid ideology (which obv was not so rock-solid initially). Does this mean that Naruto had nothing to do with changing their minds? No, BUT I feel like Naruto gets unjustly rewarded for 'winning' these ideological arguments. Probably the most infuriating one being Nagato's death, and the resurrection of everybody who died during his attack. Naruto (the show) had its lackluster moments before this, but I would argue that they were overshadowed by the engaging story and the focus on a smaller cast of characters. This decision that Kishimoto made was, imo, his first big mistake, and should have been my first clue about what kind of writer he is. The Naruto vs. Nagato discussion was significant because Naruto still did not have a definitive answer to the problem Nagato saw about the cycle of hatred, prompting him to hold convictions that would allow him to reach Sasuke later on down the road. But initially, Naruto chose not to kill Nagato as one of the early steps to stop contributing to the cycle of vengeance all shinobi had contributed to. This is impactful bc there were REAL CONSEQUENCES to this type of decision. People would die and not be avenged, people who were murderers would be allowed amicability, and wars against other nations would be discarded in favor of a pacifist stance. We can see that this was the line of thinking Naruto got to, bc when dealing with Sasuke's spiral into murder later, Naruto asked his friends, who could no longer let Sasuke's actions go in good conscience, to let Naruto deal with Sasuke. When Omoi and Karui came to get info out of Naruto, Naruto chooses the pacifist route and refuses to engage in a fight (which would only add to the list of actions that could be avenged). This path he chose had consequences. The decision to not fight in a world that was built fundamentally on the idea that you needed to fight and kill to survive and protect things important to you would have major fallout. But nobody would know it by the fact that everyone comes back to life after Nagato dies. Naruto's ideals are just that strong. Intentionally or no, this turn of events rewards Naruto's ideology and punishes Nagato's, literally by giving life to Naruto's friends and taking Nagato's. Rather than showcasing the flaw in Nagato's worldview, the focus shifts to how much better Naruto's is, which I think is a much more shallow portrayal to decide to execute. It's re-framing Naruto into a savior role, as life is bestowed to his friends because his choice is supposedly the more righteous one. In contrast, Naruto and Sasuke's story, I think, is the most fulfilling and engaging ideological discussion in the show. Mainly because it strays away from focusing too much on competing ideologies, like what happened with Nagato. Yes, there are ideological differences between Sasuke and Naruto on the surface, but in reality, Sasuke was unable to fully cut off the connection he had with Team 7. More to the point of this though, Naruto tries desperately to UNDERSTAND Sasuke. To know what he's going through and to know why and how Sasuke made the decisions he did. Once he does that, now Naruto can stand on the same playing field, to discuss idealogies with him. However, I would argue, that it isn't Naruto's ideology that wins over Sasuke in the end, but rather, Sasuke's own reciprocal bond with Naruto stimulated by Naruto's blunt declaration of empathy towards Sasuke. Naruto's strength in conviction plays a role initially, but his loyalty to Sasuke is what confuses him prompting Sasuke to grill Naruto about where this fits into his ideology. To Sasuke, the punishment for possessing the losing ideology is death. One of them needs to die. To Naruto though, it's not all about the ideology. He says that he feels pain when he sees Sasuke try and bear everything on his own, finally reaching him. At this point, Sasuke is already well-versed in discussion about worldviews (since he's changed his like five times at this point), but when faced with simple, straightforward, sincere, and true empathy, that's what prompts him to reconsider his path. What makes this work is that the crux of the battle IS 'the power of friendship' in a way. The focus is less so (but not nonexistent) on how there's a flaw in Sasuke's worldview and how Naruto is basically God so his view is de facto better, but rather on how Naruto's empathy towards Sasuke is more important. That's what tips the scales in Naruto's favor, and is a much better display of Kishimoto's ability. There's more I want to say (haven't even touched on Neji and Obito), but this is already too long, and these were kinda the biggest takeaways I got after finishing the video. TL;DR Kishimoto shouldn't focus too much on ideologies. While the ideologies are cool, Naruto becomes more of a vessel for Kishimoto's views than an individual character who must bear consequences for his worldview (Neji's death was fine and all, but this has its own problems in Neji's storyline than in Naruto's). Besides, Kishimoto's 'power of friendship' theme is more compelling in some instances anyways. BTW, great video.
Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who picked that up between How Naruto and Sasuke operate. And how and why it eventually went doen the way it did. Thanks for putting it into words. Edit: and something I almost forgot about. Kishimoto doesn't use Naruto as a vessel for his ideology. Because he actually agrees with Sasuke and said would do the same in his position. So he shares more with his ideology even blaming Naruto for not understanding Sasuke better. And not verbatim he said also something along the lines of, this is still a shonen series, for explaining why he made certain story decisions and it had to be uplifting and sorts.
The thing that you missed in your analysis of the Naruto and Nagato debate is that it's really not about who has the best ideology. One of the very strongest theme of Naruto is Heritage, the herited will of fire from Konoha that was build with the hope of a world at peace. This will was carried on through generation and Jiraya was one of the strongest holder of that will. Naruto and Nagato were both disciple of Jiraya, and Nagato claimed that what he wanted to do was what Jiraya really wanted, but after Naruto "talk no jutsued" him, he realized that he was completely wrong, and a detail that plenty of people have forgotten is what Nagato said just before reviving all the people he killed in the village : "that's the least i can do for the damage i caused", which were the exact same words than Jiraya when he decided to teach Nagato Yahiko and Konan the ninjutsu for repayment of all the destruction Konoha had done to their country. By doing that Nagato comes back to the real heritage of Jiraya one last time to help Naruto building the better future they all wanted. Also, Jiraya wasn't revived so it's really not like there was no big consequence, him alone staying dead is far more than enough to be a big sacrifice to endure for Naruto. The point is that it's also very important to show that if you stay truth to your nindo and never comes back on your word, like Naruto and Jiraya did, to find peace, there will be good consequence at one moment. Naruto having stayed true to his heritage and having not attacked Nagato, the reviving of the dead was a very good way to show a reward for that.
@@SuperBallani very specific point there. i never thought of that. if only you can do bunshin and reply to these people who absurdly demoralize nagato's decision to revive them as a form of none sense.
Pain will always be my favorite Talk no Jutsu. By taking some of Nagato's philosophy of understanding others through pain, it shifted Naruto's ideology while keeping his own, and enabled him to truly understand Sasuke, causing a different outcome from their first battle. Great video! Your analyses were my exact thoughts. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words.

naruto's dattebayo's sexy jutsu and loud stupidity is so endearing but it also makes him out to be a total idiot spazz with mental and speech impediments and issues...he needed counselling at a young age
I gotta say, as someone who fell out of Naruto during the Fourth Ninja War Arc and admittedly thought the series was becoming a waste of time, this video really got me reminiscing as to why I loved this show on the first place. I had nearly forgotten the brilliance in some of these fights and how much I used to love the talk no jutsu, even when everyone else was shitting on it. Great video and I can't wait to see the others.
Jon Magician true like naruto and Sakura obsession for Sasuke, not destroying the rinnegan, calling Obito the coolest guy, Neji death, the defeat of Madara
My problem with Naruto is that they wasted great characters to develop the weird relationship of Sasuke and Naruto. All the great characters like Rock Lee, Orochimaru, Neji, Shino and more from part 1 wasted like dust.
Don Nguyen After the chunin exams and Sasuke retrieval arc these characters had no direction. Kishi didn't know what to do with the characters he created.
sandmanofchaos After killing the third hokage in the first part especially turning Sasuke to a rogue ninja. You would think he would be a important character throughout part 2 but he turns into another side character.
It's such a weird flaw because every shounen does this. Basically introducing characters in new arcs and then tossing them aside later. It's such a weird situation that Kishimoto made these characters so likable that so many people don't realise that they (Lee, Neji etc) actually have the same level of relevance as someone like Vivi in One Piece or Lyon in Fairy Tail. I guess the moral is don't make your side characters too good I guess?
Something I love about Boruto is that it shows the opposite of Naruto. Naruto was a story about a boy with nothing being able to get everything. But Boruto is a story about a kid with everything but doesn’t except it then he loses all of it and realizes what he had.
I’m pretty sure that’s been done before in other shows also doesn’t boruto get a eye power that no one else has and he never loses that and if that eye is the reason why he becomes so powerful it will show you that the only consistent thing in naruto is that that birth determines everything neji will always be right and that’s why he got killed by kishimoto, just so neji doesn’t call out narutos bullshit that’s just so wrong so so wrong.
@@dinogt8477 I think your right, if someone parents our rich and good to them they will have a good life even though they did nothing good, and someone born poor will be the opposite
Now it makes sense how naruto couldn't change Sasuke till the end cuz he lost confidence and didn't have power to prove to Sasuke that revenge doesn't give u strength
It's not that Talk-no-jutsu is bad. I think it was handled well earlier in the series. But I think the writing got more rushed and it became less compelling and the dialogue was more stale. I think my favorite talk-no-jutsu was with Naruto and Zabuza. In defense of the final fight, I believe that was written well, too and I felt like Naruto genuinely convinced Sasuke that things could be better if he were to not be alone.
What a great retrospection honestly didnt think of some of these myself, but the Kakuzu contradiction feels like it was realised when he talked with reanimated Itachi and how Naruto wanted to take on the world by himself then how Itachi said Naruto would end up like Madara if kept having that thought. The act of him trusting Itachi I think helped him realise that contradiction.
I like Naruto's path to peace, inspiring others to do great things by being great himself, essentially giving everyone an ideal to strive towards. A lot of people can him naive, but it's honestly really noble, we need more folks in the world like Naruto.
When you watch your first anime and think it's great, and then watch more and think it isn't, and then watch a 40 min analysis video and realize it really is great
I loved Talk no Jutsu. But I must say, thanks for helping me see things I never got by myself. Amazing video. Your and craftdwarf's videos has helped me to appreciate final arc more.
The earlier examples of talk no jutsu fueled redemptions work for me for the simple fact that their transformation was not accomplished by Naruto's words alone, the characters were already engaged in an internal struggle, Naruto was simply the push which released the floodgates (zabuza is a great example). In these instances it doesn't feel miraculous, it feels like a natural character progression. This however is not true for many of the later redemption stories in the series. Nagato, Obito and Sasuke's redemptions in particular are terribly justified. Rather than explore them all I'll just focus on Nagato. It was suggested that Nagato had once experienced an internal ideological struggle many decades before after Yahiko died but subsequently chose a solution to which he would hold with absolute conviction. Regardless as to it's inherent hypocrisy he believed in his approach absolutely as is evident by his dialogue and actions, so much so that the murder of thousands meant nothing to him. Now for all I know Nagato may have been locked in an internal dialogue of ideological insecurity but this is nowhere to be seen in his character and it is not until Naruto points out this hypocrisy that Nagato appears to be faced with it. This alone is then used to justify a fundamental ideological shift within his character over the course of a few seconds. This is terribly weak writing. For example if I explain to my grandmother whom is deeply political how her political views are self contradictory it will likely take her years to acknowledge and accept this fact unless she happened to already be struggling with it internally. People don't change that quickly and certainly not someone with the level of conviction displayed by Nagato. You talk in depth about the inherent hypocrisy of most characters ideals and that this is representative of and often directly leading to their loss in battle. (further supported by Naruto's failures over the course of his own phase of self uncertainty). This is a great point but this alone is not a justification for ideological transformation it is rather an acknowledgment of a clever writing theme. The failure in writing does not come from its thematic or or metaphorical significance it comes from its lack of realism. These dramatic transformations feel miraculous because they do not portray a realistic psychological progression of character. Forgiveness is another fundamental flaw of many of the redemption arcs as many whom had done terrible crimes are pardoned and forgiven for seemingly no reason. It seems completely foreign and inhuman because it is. You can argue that this is Naruto's characterization, that he is willing to forgive anyone, fine, but it's still bad characterization in that it lacks any semblance of realism. It makes Naruto seem almost inhuman, by the end of the series he is even painted as a god. He is impossibly powerful, always right, able to forgive all sins and everyone follows him without question. Which leads us to probably the worst part of this theme of forgiveness in the fact that the entire cast of characters many of which have shown far more pragmatic and realistic positions towards punishment and wrongdoing seem to be perfectly content accepting Naruto's decisions. These mass murderous villains are accepted almost without question with no concern for justice or safety. Not only is that flawed from a writing perspective but the logic of it even breaks down when considering it from an in universe perspective.
This is the best response I've seen in what is without doubt the most thoughtful TH-cam comment section I can remember. (Also I appreciate that the OP acknowledges it with the heart as well :) )
Amazing response! "He is impossibly powerful, always right, able to forgive all sins and everyone follows him without question." This always got me pissed, especially the part about him being always right. Naruto does something obviously stupid and they find some way to make it right and "ninja way", and even if they do scold him about it, there's never any seriousness to it, so you just know he'll do the same stupid shit again given the chance. Always find myself comparing him with Gon in HxH who, for instance, was firmly rebuked when he challenged Genthru without thinking, he knew he'd fucked up and apologized. Or maybe some other character does something courageous or amazing, and next thing you find them riding Naruto and attributing their awesomeness to Naruto somehow...maddening!
@@ben0789 Yeah, they forget that it doesn't always work. He tried it on Deidara and he didn't budge because he didn't understand anything Naruto said.
35:49 I've gotta disagree on that front. Naruto is fighting alone for a way to test his strength to become ready to fight Sasuke and save his friend from the darkness. It'd be one thing If Naruto was just going to abandon the cause if he knew Kakazu wasn't a worthy opponent or something. But saying the only reason he wanted to fight the Akatsuki was to prove himself is somewhat misunderstanding the point of why he wanted to become Sasuke's equal in the first place. Granted it wasn't a perfect solution. Because ultimately, Naruto's strength does come from his bonds and by abandoning them in that moment he was only making his path more painful. But it at least allowed him to get closer to understanding Sasuke's own path of darkness. So ultimately it was worth it.
I've always loved Talk no Jutsu. It was something different when it came to shonen. I loved how Kishi approached it where Naruto actually confronts the antagonist through words by battling their ideals while also improving his own.

I think that the entire kakuzu moment is very interesting because it is essentially the only time that he went against his ideals and then Jiraiya dies, which could be seen as a consequence to him straying from his path
I think pain’s contradiction was also the fact that he said that people could never understand each other but the reason that konan followed him was the fact that they understood eachother.
Kakuzu was a once honorable Samuai who simply lost all morals due to being a warrior for so long, thats what I got from it. Kishi himself also said that he wanted to write that in for Kakuzu, as well as backstory and additional powers for Hidan, but was forced to rush this arc due to back pains and a deadline.
I just watched itachi's memory arc which included them recruiting Hidan, and his backstory is literally "there's a homocidial maniac on the loose, we've received payment to go kill this man. oh fk he is immortal, let's force him to join the akatsuki."

It really is a talk no jutsu.
“Using the stones to destroy the stones”
It may not be flashy, but talking it out is actually core to Japanese martial arts. The founder of my Jujitsu dojo always said you haven't truly defeated your enemy until you've made them your ally.
Reminds me when Mr Dorian suddenly become retarded because he got talk no jutsu by Ritsu when the guy said "you've never won a battle" Pretty fascinating about Baki fights isn't it?
Damn Vegeta flashes to mind 😂
not just japanese.
Or you can end them, that works too.
Then since being ennemies and being allies are reflective relations, doesn't that also mean that you also truly lost when you become allies....

Dont watch boruto first no matter what.
Naruto was not only a child of prophecy but was born from the uzumaki which resulted in him having abnormal amounts of chakra from birth! A clear advantage that most ninja dont have! I too have experienced pain... That sums up ALL the talk no jutsu moments.
True. Kenshin's villains always give a speech before they die.

Maybe I'm suffering from confirmation bias but after all the bitching, whining and memes I see of Naruto, something like this really makes my day
Naruto is just easy to shit on by people who don't understand or people who got tired of waiting weekly for episodes of filler which is definitely relatable, but I think overall it's very enjoyable.
The thing is people pick the rather small bad parts of Naruto and Hate on it really really hard. No other Anime gets that much unnecessary hate

Ahmxt Sxnjuu DBZ, dbgt, bleach, SnK get a hate for small stuff it's nothing new
Thato Omphile I mean Aot doesn't get much hate at all and in DBZ gets some hate but out deserves that partly. That's just my opinion
Lol most of it is childish and trash

This video is the reason i love Naruto the anime and the character sooo much. Thank you for making the characterization more clear and giving your views on it
Same like Naruto’s way too overhated
*edit
Sorry forgot to mention that this video is really well put together showing off how well the conflicts of Naruto bounce of each other and make a compelling story showing off each of the characters ideals and just how scary and real some of their thoughts might be. So just good job too!!

I personally thought the fight with kakuzu was a way for naruto to begin to understand sasuke like he failed to do so in the past.

Sakura, Ino, Hinata, Temari, Haku. How could you forget the baddest bitches of all time?
btw dibs on all of them, my waifu harem
Woah
You absolute mad man you did it
You articulated all thoughts
Thank you
@@SuperBallani very specific point there. i never thought of that. if only you can do bunshin and reply to these people who absurdly demoralize nagato's decision to revive them as a form of none sense.
The Narutoverse would be a better place if Haku wasnt...............

I liked that very much :)
It‘s because it‘s shonen so a female Character can’t be useful or strong so Haku couldn’t be female 😂
true..but i guess it's too much to have a deadly female character
Sadly that is true
Himiko Toga. Cute but very deadly.
Pain will always be my favorite Talk no Jutsu. By taking some of Nagato's philosophy of understanding others through pain, it shifted Naruto's ideology while keeping his own, and enabled him to truly understand Sasuke, causing a different outcome from their first battle.

Everything before the war was good, but the war.... well it really screwed the series over
It probably wouldn't have been as bad if Kaguya never happened.

My problem with Naruto is that they wasted great characters to develop the weird relationship of Sasuke and Naruto. All the great characters like Rock Lee, Orochimaru, Neji, Shino and more from part 1 wasted like dust.
Deathgun 2019 Yeah especially Shino like wtf happened to him
Don Nguyen After the chunin exams and Sasuke retrieval arc these characters had no direction. Kishi didn't know what to do with the characters he created.
Orochimaru was scattered throughout Part 2 so that's wrong.
sandmanofchaos After killing the third hokage in the first part especially turning Sasuke to a rogue ninja.

Nailed it!
My favorite talk no jutsu was with gaara.
Talk no jutsu is still bullshit
Wow, what a long video! You really put a lot of thought and effort into this, good job!
People instead simply simp after the toxic masculinity and the cool degenerates because... I don’t fucking know 🤦🏻♀️😂

I loved Talk no Jutsu. But I must say, thanks for helping me see things I never got by myself. Amazing video. Your and craftdwarf's videos has helped me to appreciate final arc more.
Peeps, Kishi taught us to look underneath the underneath during the bell test.
This video is just that. Well Carved Out Analysis.
You know your work was good when it can be interpreted in so many ways. Kishimoto should be proud.
"He is impossibly powerful, always right, able to forgive all sins and everyone follows him without question."
This always got me pissed, especially the part about him being always right.
I guess one have to leave logic and be emotional to watch naruto

i just can't believe how deep Naruto is

One of the best analysis of an anime I've ever watched.
So by defeating Kakuzu, he was taking a step closer to saving Sasuke. In other words, he WAS fighting Kakuzu to protect a comrade. Makes sense.

I've always loved Talk no Jutsu. It was something different when it came to shonen. I loved how Kishi approached it where Naruto actually confronts the antagonist through words by battling their ideals while also improving his own.

I think pain’s contradiction was also the fact that he said that people could never understand each other but the reason that konan followed him was the fact that they understood eachother.
That and the fact that while he kept saying mutual pain would drive people to peace his pain was driving him to vengeance
also the fact that konan already told him to stop yet he still continue
untill they feel the same pain which they were sharing together so it wasn't the contradiction
