      It really does show how much could have happened in London if she hadn’t had the acl injury. I’m not entirely convinced she’d have won bars though as that event got so much better from even early 2011 to the Olympics.

      @@aguti7920 she would have, yes. The loss of the Amanar- a smart decision not to try for it- made the AA gold very very unlikely (not impossible, because anything could have happened). The beam fall was very surprising- and unfortunate but she never stopped fighting. That kind of mentality is why she won all the Olympic medals she did.

      @@aguti7920I know, and it’s so unfortunate because Victoria was immensely talented. On paper she was absolutely the best of 2011 and 2012, but in execution at the moment it counted… just so heartbreaking. The biggest oh if only for me was Rio- Komova had far and away the best bars routine in the world, except her back wouldn’t have it. She was wise to stay away (I know how it is to battle back problems) but I can’t help but think she could have gotten that elusive gold at the Olympics. Thankfully, at her retirement she emphasized her pride and appreciation for her two Olympic silvers- just being on the team with so much talent to choose from- and her two world bars golds. That’s the measure of a true legend.

    why is it always these two same horrible commentators?

  • @admetric
    @admetric 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    An issue the commentators are ignoring is how assignment of body position, and hence SV, for the vaults was made. Nellie Kim made it very clear in the code of points that certain criteria have to be met for a vault to even begin to be considered to be a layout vault. There was a graphic illustration showing vaults that would receive layout and those that would receive a piked downgrade. Otherwise people would do all sorts of crazy things just to get a higher SV.
    The vault somersault portion does not begin until the gymnast has reached a vertical position from repulsion off the table with the hands. (The preflight is irrelevant in all cases. )The gymnast is allowed to reach vertical with some pike in her body. However, if she wishes to have a layout start value credited she has to achieve a fully open position, close to 180° immediately and before starting the somersault. Then, the somersault needs to be performed in mostly layout position for no downgrade.
    If the gymnast does not show the open position at vertical and initiatives the somersault in any position other than straight body the vault is going to be downgraded and viewed as piked and given the lower SV.
    Watching both of the Russians in EF you can clearly see that they are piked as the go through vertical. They do not open into a layout stretched position and start somersaulting in an open piked position. Therefore, it cannot be credited as a layout vault and is downgraded to piked. The Russian coaches are just plain wrong, but are probably trying to save face.
    Surprisingly, Mustafina did do it correctly enough in qualifiers to get the layout credit. You can search for HV showing it on TH-cam.

    • @jjs5056
      @jjs5056 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing that matters is that just prior to these Worlds, the WTC issued a Help Desk stating that performing a forward salto vault with more than a 1/2 twist in the piked position was "biomechanically impossible." Those rules should have been followed, period.

    Bross was so overscored on beam. Her D score was lower than Mitchell and Linlin, and her execution is bad with ugly form, so there is no basis for her medaling. She also had one balance break, the same as the others.

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deng Linlin had multiple balance checks and a very stutter stop style routine- which was a deduction in itself. There was absolutely no flow at all. Same with Lauren, along with a couple of noticeable checks she had some flow issues in that routine. Rebecca’s form was just fine, there’s no “one size fits all” formula and the code allows for some leeway based on how a gymnast actually performs a certain skill.
