You should tell them to add another light to the black box on the snow plow itself so that it’s basically a spot light on the ground so you have max visibility. I’ve seen plows before not sure what brand that were rear mounted, but had the light on the box above the actual plow, and one on each end of the wing that had two sides to the light, one side pointed out facing behind the truck and the other side of the bulb pointed toward the ground but facing forwards toward the cab so you could see the ground when you have the wings facing toward the truck instead of outward. I like extra visibility not just for yourself while plowing but the more someone else can see you the better I think. That’s why I also like the plow edge markers to have little LED’s inside to make it more apparent where exactly your edge is, especially when you’re out for 20-40 hours it helps to have a more noticeable point of reference!

If i had that installed on my truck i would use that as an excuse to get a 5th wheel camp since the rails are already installed in the bed of the truck if they are raided for that kind of wight and that would help to save time with plowing

for my work front it the way. work for the township, so mostly plowing roads...so just pushing from the front i think makes more sense.but if we did more parking lots i could see this being more useful. of course, our truck are international 7500's (or most are, still working on replacing mid 90's kodiaks) and we run with salt. we've also a few F550's for smaller routes.

I plowed for a couple of years and lost my butt. Tore out a transfer case, steering knuckle on a closed knuckle, broke the ram off the pump on a western plow. I'm in no way interested in doing any more of that, but I enjoyed watching this video. I did get a good tax write off. The truck I now own does have the plow and towing package just because that is what I wanted. I didn't pick up on the tires you are running. The last set I bought was BF Goodrich TA radials. I have 26k on the Micheline tires that came on my truck so I'll be shopping for tires soon. I was told these are made in Fort Wayne Indiana. If anyone knows of something better, I would like to hear their recommendations. Thanks for the video.

That light looks like they met up with Federal Signal for their light technology. Personally Stan I would still get a V plow for the deep events. Use the V to punch a hole through and the pull plow to widen your hole like having side wings. Also if you have a pull plow forget about salting or deicing. It would be in the way. Yet you can add a wing to your pickups and still do deicing work at the same time.

Don't know if you heard of R.A.S.K. ASSOCIATES they are in six states now plowed for them for 15 years as a foreman when Indiana got snow, only thing i see in your videos plowing snow with lots of equipment in one lot!
I was always shamed for that, especially with snow boxes 15' was charged as 2 truck hours which cut your time on lot.
You do a great job from what ive seen.
Its a lot of work in short amount of time. Miss the snow here in Indiana maybe 15' in three years on those days would be 20 or more hours in a truck cab covering 24 lots. Have a good season! DND LANDSCAPE

  • @arsonist3013
    @arsonist3013 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My first issue with plowing this way is the truck driving over the snow before plowing. Plowing forward provides a cleaner job.
The second is driving forward while simultaneously paying attention to what is behind you. This only invites the potential for accidents.
Third is more of a question. How the hell would you be able to plow a four to six foot drift?
    I'll stick to my 9.5' v-plow.

If only they could get the center to tilt slightly to the left or right to help move the heavier snow like you mentioned at 13:31, nothing major, just enough to help slide the snow to the side.
Btw were getting 60s and rain here in Indy. 😎

they should have gave up before the first plow was built. damn those engineers for even trying. if they only knew someone would have had a better idea than them..

Tilting the center blade with the limited weight of the back of the truck would end up pushing the rear end off to the side.

Looks like a really slick set up. Only thing I see that would cause you issues is need to have a licence plate and Light mount, blocking a plate here get you a ticket.

Good point... my sander blocks my rear plate..

Grumpy 1 mainly they go after a blocked rear plate...

y2kxj every state has different laws regarding the rear license plate. Take Missouri for example where they only supply one license plate for commercially licensed trucks and it must be mounted on the front of that truck -- not just tractor trailers either but all the way down to half-ton trucks (i.e. F150, C1500, etc for lawn care businesses). They also do not hassle the trucks with front snowplows mounted, as long as it can be seen if the LEO pokes his head between the snowplow & truck.

I've been running back blades (sorry, I don't call it a pull plow) for 17 years, the last 3 full seasons with a winged back blade. It's a pet peeve of mine watching people pull out into the road and letting the traffic or road commission clean up the mess. Thanks Dirt Monkey for your videos! I also plow 25+ miles per hour quite frequently. On long runs, typically I run my V plow to clear the lane and my winged back blade spread out to clear the width.

I forgot to mention that I'm in West Michigan too! We don't get quite as much lake effect as the shoreline, but it still keeps us busy!
