Little tip from a pro! Get yourself a Marshaltown grout float. Soft rubber makes grouting a breeze. Cheap floats have stiff rubber and make grouting a nightmare job, especially bevelled metro tiles which really hold onto the grout becasue of the bevelled edge. And modern grouts need very little water so careful there. And if your grout starts setting in the bucket do NOT add extra water to liven it up, chuck it away and mix up a fresh batch. And here is another. Tiles are hard to polish after one wash. Wash the grout off, give it an hour or so then give it another wash with clean water and then repeat again. 3 washes and polishing is easy. Tiling looks great BTW!
Funniest thing for a Yankee watching this is the British accent on the kids. For some reason, we Yanks think the accent is something that infiltrates the speech as you get older. LOL
We just did our bathroom with similar metro tiles and I regret not going with grey grout, it there is no way I’m taking it out and doing it again! Looks great guys keep up the great content 👍🏼
Why is it everything im looking at doing youv already done wether it be from re slating my roof to grouting 😂 keep it up mate i have followed your channel for a few years now.
Looks good, I've done a lot of brick-bond metro tiles, mix up1kg of powder each time it does about 1-2 m2, then wipe off & start next mix. Mapie seams to work well or Ball, when you mix up a big batch it takes a lot of labour to recover the joint's 🧽
Also, gloves are essential, the alkalinity of the grout will totally dry out the oils in your skin, your fingertips will split and crack and it’s very uncomfortable, even painful
You should try using epoxy grout in the future. It is fantastic and very easy to keep nice especially if you have a lot of limescale in your water. Try a product like Starlike or something similar. Harder to work with but very durable in the long run!
Defiantly agree with going for a darker grout. Jeez you could have made it easier if you knocked it up a bit wetter! Some times running your finger over the lines once you’ve sponged them finishes them off nice :)
I'm just about to tile my hand built kitchen base unit tiles. I will use a dry cloth to do the wiping off and, like you say, wipe on the diagonal. Grouting is a lot more work than you would think isn't it?
As ever, useful timing as I attack grouting and tiling soon. Would you recommend a dimmer switch in the bathroom or stick with sunglasses? Excellent assistant camera operator thank you.
I use a roughneck mortar gun with plastic tip to grout bevelled edge metro... it pushes grout in all the way, minimizes clean up and it's quick. Use grey silicone in corners, but use white at the top to blend with white ceiling
LOL....I thought I was in a disco after a few drinks during that.the walls started moving..LOL....I just did all m y grouting the other day.... Ohhh what fun!!
This guy just bugs me... I mean, I'm a competent tradesman and I do ALL my own work on my house but the level of detail and workmanship this fella has puts the vast majority of tradesmen to shame and that hits my ego hard 😂😂😂 What a lost talent in the trades

Yeah man I ended up with bigger grout joins on mine because of bevelled edge....it still looks good...but lesson learned

Grout smoothing tools are a worthwhile purchase.
Love that your daughter’s conversation. You’re quite the artist.
Use grey silicone definitely! Even across the top. It'll finish the grout lines off really nice.

I’m sure you could but I imagine it would be a very time consuming job. Perhaps there is a grout stain product?
Thanks for the video. Where can I find the tiling video?
Looks really good, grouting is one of the few jobs I enjoy doing too.
Hi ya. You mentioned sealing the grout. What do you have in mind ? Rgds Don.
Hi, please could I ask whether the backer board needs priming?
Thanks
Tom
Brilliant vid tim tiling looks awsome your daughter done a great job on the camera team work thumbs up to u both
Tip for grouting mate, get it on the wall and go diagonal across the wall in one direction.
But great work!
Doesn’t work the same with bevelled metro tiles like here, but flat tiles you’re right.
🎶 Prep, Prep, Prep, Prep, 🎶 Prepdy 🎵 Prep 🎵 ...... camera woman speaking *TRUTH* nothing changes if you sit down 🤣🤣
Looks great, love the contrast. What did you seal the grout with after cleaning off the haze?
My query too!?
Why is it everything im looking at doing youv already done wether it be from re slating my roof to grouting 😂 keep it up mate i have followed your channel for a few years now.
Hope the vacuum was returned...hope the spatula wasn’t 😂🤣😂🤣😉 tiles are looking really good. Production team...great job too🙋🏻💕🇬🇧

Couldn’t agree more. Smaller batches much better and more enjoyable! 🥵
I would always grout the corners too then silicon them to be double protective

Looking FRESH!! Def love the contrast of grout and tile. Might have to steal that tip from you for our upcoming diy bathroom tiling jobs ;)
I’m never using bevelled tiles ever again takes twice as long to grout
As ever, useful timing as I attack grouting and tiling soon. Would you recommend a dimmer switch in the bathroom or stick with sunglasses? Excellent assistant camera operator thank you.
I’d style it out with sunglasses if I were you. 😎
@@TheRestorationCouple Excellent advice as ever thank you - might keep the dimmer and turn to 11?
don’t have to wait 72 hours for sealer?
Never start the second wall before wiping down the first.
Quite right. 👍
Love your new style of filming! More heavy metal style music lol.
Love the Hey Duggee reference... :) You were a bit ambitious doing that much in a oner but good job again, looking forward to seeing finished
Nice contrast with the light grey grout. BTW Did the sunglasses help at all?
😂 spotted that in the edit. It was a scorcher that day and I was also meant to be watching the kids in the garden so was in and out. 👍
Was that sanded grout ? If so try unsanded grout on that small of a joint next time .
Surprised those sun glasses last from lunch till the end!
Have you picked out what type of shower you're putting in? Or is there a standard to bring your pipes too?
Most likely another Mira Atom. The one upstairs has been great and nice and simple. Pipes are 150mm in most bar mixers I think.
I never realised how dirty the screen on my phone was until you made the brightest video known to man! But anyway looks great!
Was a little clinical sorry!
Yo mate! Where is the Henry vacuum!?!?! Ditch the Dyson!
Good to see you in workboots, I wear nothing else. I haven't finished my tiling yet. 😂
But don't you get the grout in your naughty bits if that's all you wear ? !!

the Girl is right - tripods are just fancier sitting places... but they don't like to wobble as much...Pooh!
Where is the tiling vid then?
Its ceramic not porcelain it pulls dry a lot quicker
Your camera lady did an amazing job! How precious!
LOL....I thought I was in a disco after a few drinks during that.the walls started moving..LOL....I just did all m y grouting the other day.... Ohhh what fun!!
I did try and get her to leave it on the tripod but she wanted the Blair Witch Project look! 😂
Hate grouting...lol tiling in general is a right pain.
Watch out for the Guard Dog!
Deaf and going blind, he can smell you coming though. Or perhaps just me! 😂
wearing sunglasses and the filling cracks.. not bad sir

i keep a "dirty dyson" for these jobs, saves explaining to my wife why half the house is inside the dust collector
Yea, i keep henry in the garage for these sort of jobs.
Mixed too thick! Made the job 10x harder.
Grout is mixed a lot runnier than adhesive.
Depends on the grout. Modern grouts are very water sensitive and if too runny it won't cure properly and be powdery. That consistency looked perfect
Come on?
Looks good to me and very even, but what a slave driver!
