When I was in Year 3 in 1986, I loved The Young Ones so much I wrote my own episode of it for creative writing. The other kids in the class didn't get it when I had to read it out. But the teacher cracked up. That was the peak of my writing career. At age 8, lol.
Definitely. I remember the midweek first play on BBC in the BRoomcupboard, there was nothing like it. Kids today don't get it but the Young Ones was amazing. There wasnothing that wasn't cabaret or mother in law jokes or Terry and June or dare I say it....The good Life (sorry Viv) there had never been anything for the youth of culture. Most people did not even recognise students as a social class until this. There may be saturation now but the Young Ones was special and while it may not age great its a corner I will fight till I die
The one and only brilliant comic relief record. The sheer genius of putting the young ones and Cliff Richard together. And fair play to Cliff for doing it. I still watch the young ones in 2024 and cry laughing. Stomach aching from all the laughter. No other show can do that. And then came Bottom. And i felt exactly the same. Can't see the TV because I'm crying from laughter. The genius talents of Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson. Will never be matched
Woke up early 04: 16,am 2020 this morning couldn't sleep, not happy then had the strangest notion to want to watch this video, glad I did . After all these years this video it's still hilarious🤣 .Takes me back to when I couldn't wait for the next episode of The Young Ones to start. Rik is by far my favourite, then Vyvian ( can't spell it) then Neil & last one Mike. Wish they'd show the repeats on TV now We could do with cheering up. Also like Bottom series & there was another series with Rik in it ,a political one can't remember the name, but it was hilarious, still laugh at the scene where he was torturing a teddy bear & it actually got people writing in & complaining about it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rest in Peace, Rik Mayall. You made me laugh a lot of times when i watched The Young Ones, Bottom and the Dangerous Brothers. Heroes never die, they only fade away. You will always be remembered dear Rik !
He did well not to,didn't he? There are a couple of bits of dialogue missing from this that were on the radio version: mostly in the instrumental break bit, where the sounds of a couple of instruments being mangled after Vivian named them, followed by the sound of a window smashing after Vivian says "didgery doo" (WTF?) Then he says something like "OK,what shall I break next?" Someone says Rik's head,and/or Neil's head, then some (probably Vivian) says "Cliff's head",and then they all say"no!" "no!" "no!" trying to stop him.
Jokers very often give us the truth - gift wrapped in a gag. Rik knew a lot about the industry that paid his wages... th-cam.com/video/ZwQN3IizuHI/w-d-xo.html
As a 7 year old this song would crack me up big time, it still does. I always thought it was quite amazing how Cliff was able to keep singing with such loud agressive back up singers, haha. Now my 7 year old daughter asks regularly to play Living Doll!
I had the prviliage of meeting Rik about 15 years ago and he was an absolute legend. He instantly slipped into character, was fucking hilarious and posed for photos. I miss him.
I was born in 1995, I'm 23 years old, but I was brought it to all the great 60s, 70s and 80s, by my dad, grandad and uncle, , the young ones, bottom, on the busses, the classic mini, Grange Hill, I was definitely born in the wrong era!!!!
I was 18 in 1986 And I wish that stuff like this was still around. Life is way too serious in this day and age. The young ones and bottom were my favourite programmes. You don't get talent like that now days. You get people who try to be funny these guys were funny without trying. I needed a laugh and that's why I'm here. So thank you for putting this up. ❤
This is the first time everyone in the spotify/itunes community is disgusted that this UK number one hit is unavailable meaning no results. Only this TH-cam vid has this song, we definitely need to give credit to this guy who posted this on TH-cam, without this guy posting it, listening to this hit would be almost impossible!

I love The Young One's. I remember me my brother my aunt and my first boyfriend used to watch them on MTV in the late eighties. We had taped them on VHS and would binge watch. I love British Comedy. Ab Fab fan too
I often wonder how they convinced Sir Cliff to do this, I'm almost certain he would have strongly disapproved of The Young Ones. I'm glad they did, this is a classic.
Cliff covers this in this new book - The Dreamer - he says “the program wasn’t normally his sort of thing as the humour was horrific” but he used to watch the show cus Rick was obsessed wiv Cliff n would often talk about him. Plus they approached him to do it for comic relief n Cliff said he had a few reservations which he outlined to them - he’d spent 30 years building an image n got peoples respect, he didn’t want to blow it in one song! He said he’d do it but can we not be too crude or vulgar? The charity single sold over 1 million copies, n got to no 1 for the second time, 27 years after it was first released.
A great song that has stayed with me right through my life from childhood! Young Ones, they don't make shows like that anymore! Thank you for whoever posted this! Definitely faved
The Dangerous Brothers, The Young Ones, Filthy Rich & Catflap, BOTTOM!! Each truly great. Loved to watch them all , some about FORTY YEARS ago, still do! Thanks for your upload. Greetz from the Netherlands 👍👍👍😎😎
I searched on Spotify, but only found it here on TH-cam. I listened to the English top, in Portugal, through the short wave of the BBC, and I loved it when I heard it for the first time, in 1st place in the top. A new version of this classic should be made. I would love a new Cliff album with his top 1's revisited by the new generation of musicians.

I remember going to a fancy dress party as Rik when I was 8. When he died it was like a part of my childhood died.
