After losing 22-army buddies before I was 21, and a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran I came to Manhattan and all of us Vets in the early 1970’s had our housing pulled out from under our feet. Many were suffering PTSD and we suddenly found ourselves homeless. The landlord upgraded the housing and wealthy Russians moved in. Landlord lied and secured a low interest government loans with the intention to upgrade our way of life. NOT, we became homeless and the landlord BS’d us and said some nasty stuff to us. I loved Manhattan, but the times weren’t kind to us. I left the states on a military hop and went to Spain. Eventually, made my home in Italy with religious Franciscan monks and nuns. Stayed about seven years and the weight of my nightly nightmares disappeared almost completely. Came to realize, “I am a spiritual being (more like a spirited being) who is having a human life experience. Don’t look back as Satchel Paige, the great old pitcher would say, live the day, stay light with your breath, go leave the rage in a tin can and bury it before rage bury’s you. Oh yes, somethings don’t change. Our landlord in Manhattan was Donald Trump.

Genuinely, this song is so transcendental to me. For a silly movie that pokes fun at a lot of religious ideas, it’s so strange that it might almost accidentally have tacked on one of the most profound pieces of writing about death and mortality ever penned by humanity

Nah... They'll have the few remaining members (living... and dead, sure) of Monty Python gather on a stage, and the stage will colapse, killing the remaining living members. This will prove to us all, that indeed, life is shit. *cue the lovely tune, Life is Shit, and roll the bloody fucking credits!*
We played this on my grandfathers funeral when we carried his coffin to the hearse. we all laughed whilst whiping away our tears. A man growing up as a child in a Japanese POW camp in the Dutch East Indies during WW2 then moving back to the Netherlands to become an English teacher to our current King. Being an English teacher meant that he enjoyed British humor and he was crazy about John Cleese, Eric Idle and loved Monty Python. every time I hear this song it reminds me of him a little bit.
I had a friend many years ago who was captured by the Japanese in the Indies. He was a Dutch citizen of local extraction, had lived there all his life until he and his wife emigrated first to the Netherlands when Sukarno took over, later to the California where I met them in 1963. We used to car pool to work together. I remember one really ugly cold and overcast day he said "On days like this in the Netherlands the children go out and buy ice cream." He came to California because his wife could not stand the weather in northern Europe.

I was definitely hopeless some of the time. Just not permanently like they hoped I'd be.
Me and my friends stayed at a hotel and we got really shitty service. The bedsheets, pillowcase and blankets were in plastic bags on the beds, the room was missing a mini fridge and it wasn’t very clean. This scene is honestly utter brilliance, the idea of a man who is not Jesus, being crucified alongside other men for really no reason, only to sing and enjoy life in the end. The life of Brian isn’t just a life of Brian but a life for all of us
People were being crucified alongside other men "for really no reason" all the time in the past

Being an English teacher meant that he enjoyed British humor and he was crazy about John Cleese, Eric Idle and loved Monty Python.
every time I hear this song it reminds me of him a little bit.
I would like to think he enjoyed the fact that you played this song at his funeral.
Goed om te horen man
What an extraordinary life he lived!

Perhaps, they're having an argument.
No, they're not.
@@waynej2608 yes they are
@@andrewpestotnik5495 a lighthearted argument about how dumb humanity as a whole can be, and whether or not it even matters.
This is the most requested song at funerals in Britain.
Even the corpses purse their lips to whistle. Oh wait, no, that's rigor mortis
We are British. It is how we work. :) We're dead? Well... Cheer up mate... You know what they say.... ;D
Whoami691 That's us Brits alright
And everyone in Ireland wants Flogging Molly's "If I Ever Leave This World Alive".
Jacob Johnson I agree had it at my husbands funeral I know he would have seen the funny side 😊
Literally getting crucified:
"Worse things happen at Sea you know."
Yeah you could be drowning in the middle of the sea and ‘somebody’ walks past and ignores you. Jesus Christ, what a...wait, would Jesus Christ work? Jebus Rhist? Yeah that’ll work
Could be a dry salty sunburned skeleton eating raw sea turtles and drinking piss
Look up what getting keelhauled actually is lol
The worst thing would be Boaty McBoatface sinking
@@LordSniggles You do have a point
This is the right song for today 😂
Yep, post-election blues
Yep, came here to cope
glad to know we’re all on the same page lmao

I’m in. Keep the crucifix though.
I play this whenever I get crucified
It really helps me get through it
I get crucified everyday. Glad I discovered this.
Good to know that you don't have any hang-ups about it.
Pls play this at my funeral
hey me too! whenever people are violent to me or back when I was a prisoner of the human traffickers who were raping me and repeatedly trying to murder me, I played this song ... they couldn't stand it so they set me free ...LOL and now I am alive rather than drawing my terminal breath ;) yay *whistles the song* I think they especially hated the part where he says "Always look on the bright side of death" because they wanted to be completely hopeless and miserable directly before I was murdered by them, but I refused, and they couldn't handle that I was ok and cheerful some of the time. I was definitely hopeless some of the time. Just not permanently like they hoped I'd be.
@@lemurlover7975 i know its a joke but i cant help myself

@James of course. The father isn't dead though 🤗
Me and my friends stayed at a hotel and we got really shitty service. The bedsheets, pillowcase and blankets were in plastic bags on the beds, the room was missing a mini fridge and it wasn’t very clean. When we tried to call housekeeping to clean the room they said that they were very busy at the time bc it was peak time. We decided to clean it by ourselves and played this song while doing so. One of the best and funniest moments I’ve ever had with them. We could never stop cracking up because of the song 🤣🤣🤣
