The other action movies main focus is the fight scenes. But this movie is just so much more than just the fight scenes. It gives and leaves you so many different feelings. Thats what the other action movies miss out on. They only try to satisfy the audience with "good fight scenes" which is why most people get tired after about half way into the film. Sure the fight scenes could and does have good choreography and real techniques, john wick for example. But its not really realistic, don't you agree? Realism is what made this "man from nowhere" movie gold. You could actually imagine something like that to actually happen, unlike movies like the raid where there is TOO many fight scenes.
The Raid might not, but The Raid 2 is a beast. Its a 2 hr action movie with pure hand to hand, and you dont get bored for 2 hrs. MFN is good but not even close to TR2

And man from nowhere way way way better then the Raid or even John wick!! Korean always had something that other countries can't have. the sentiment of all action/drama or thriller movie from Korea other countries can't have that. Korea not just good at script, story and all acting skill of the actor. But they are freaking creative writer that making plot twist over a plot twist Korean when it comes to this genre and type of movie they are above anyone
Fact! Man from Nowhere came earlier than the Raid.. After this movie, the main actort Wonbin did not accept another movie anymore because of the trauma that he recieved from this movie... We keep on crossing our finger thst Wonbin will finally reappear again in the limeline bcoz his acting is phenomenal..
Unfortunatey this was his last movie before he deciding to retire. Won Bin is such a great actor. Many fans & producers still hope he makes a comback to entertainment industry. There is one of his movie that is still one of biggest blockbuster in korea, Taegukgi : Brotherhood in War. One of the best movie ever produced.
Fun Fact: This movie was a huge inspiration to the John Wick series. Notice the suit and clean gun work/fighting with a very dark but loveable main lead.
this movie came out first (before the raid) & actually inspired the john wick character (legit, according to the director of JW who officially said it in an interview)-
Korean laws are different from US in that even if you are "justified" you will still face punishment if your actions caused pain and suffering or was a gross violation of the law. For example, someone slaps you or attacks you and you end up hospitalizing him cuz that person assaulted you, you'll still have to face liability and punishment even if you were justified.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. This inspired the creator of John Wick. It's special because it is also the last full movie the main actor played.
What is unique about the action in this movie is that it is different from the action movies of the time. These days, there are many more realistic action movies, but when they were released in 2010, most action movies showed exciting beats and exaggerated martial arts, and audiences who were accustomed to repetitive action that felt like a dance show could sit comfortably on the sofa. . Without tension. I was lying down eating popcorn and watching the action scene as if I was watching fireworks. It may seem very cool to viewers who are new to spectacular action, but because all movies show such action, it ends up being seen as very boring and tension-less action. On the other hand, the action in this movie is not flashy or for show, but shows restrained action that attacks major blood vessels, major muscles, and vital points. At the same time, in the highlight action scenes, the music itself is deleted instead of the exciting beats, and instead of exaggerated shouts, the groans made when swinging the sword and applying force are heard delicately. Rather than an exaggerated impact sound, the sharp sound of blades hitting each other, This is because delicate sounds such as the sound of a sharp object cutting through the air or the sound of a knife being stabbed are heard. Additionally, the main character's dialogue is extremely limited throughout the film. If successful, it can create a sense of tension and mystery, but in general, excising the protagonist's dialogue in this way is a very difficult decision. It may seem easy when you look at the results, but at the time, it was almost impossible for a new director to make such an experimental film with the best actors. If you make a mistake, the action may seem trivial and insignificant, or it may end up being a shabby action movie compared to a blockbuster. So originally, the main character of this movie was going to be an unknown actor who looked like an old man. However, because the actor named Won Bin, who played the main character of this movie, really liked the movie's scenario and actively expressed his intention to appear, this movie was able to be made with the best actor. At the time, actor Won Bin was already a top-class actor, but compared to him, he participated in this movie at a very low cost and voluntarily practiced for more dangerous and intense action scenes. As a result, this movie showed how realistic action can be used as entertainment, and many viewers commented that they watched it with a sense of tension as if they were being stabbed, rather than watching it while eating popcorn in a comfortable position. On the sofa. In the case of Raid, it shows the wonderful martial arts of Southeast Asia, where martial arts are developed. However, the way the action is shown follows the formula of the flashy and rich martial arts action of existing Chinese martial arts action movies, so it is in a completely different direction from MFN's action. Meanwhile, the reason why director John Wick is said to have been inspired by this movie is because John Wick's actions also contain realistic gun tactics, unlike existing movies. If you are familiar with the gun action so far, which consists of one-handed gun action with infinite ammo, infinite random shooting, and flashy jumps, John Wick is said to have been influenced by MFN in that it shows action in a way that is used in actual gun tactics, such as magazine exchanges and Mozambique training. Therefore, it must be distinguished from movies like RAID. Afterwards, John Wick was also inspired by the experimental camera work used in the motorcycle action scene in the third film, a Korean film called The Villainess.
Professional knife fighters did a analysis of the knife fight and stated that it was a 10/10 of what to do and how to do it. Also last appearance of Won Bin in acting. The other knife fighter is from Thai so he spoke in English because he does not know Korean.
The guy who spoke in English is actually a Thai actor. He probably doesn't know Korean so it's better for him to speak in English anyways since he's more fluent in it. I like him and Won Bin in this movie the best. Love their fight together. The choreography was pretty dope.
This movie was so badass that I kept expecting a sequel to come out over the years. And since the actor who played the hero quit acting after this movie, maybe the little girl grows up and becomes the protagonist in the spin off movie "The Girl From Somewhere"
except she made poor choices in life, and got cancelled. She had 1 last chance to revive her career, but she even screwed that up. Thus she was removed half way in the netflix show "bloodhounds"
The knife guy did not want to die. He saw how good the protagonist is with the knife and he wants to fight the protagonist to see who is the best. That is why he shot the eyes' container to enrage him, then throw away the gun.
This movie and I Saw the Devil (my #1) are still my two favorite Korean movies. I remember thinking the CQC fights in this movie were sick AF and the little girl really brought the feels.
The Man from Nowhere was released in 2010 is one of the most iconic action film in Korean action film history. If you like the noir genre like the man from now where, I recommend watching new world. This movie is based on the famous Hong Kong movie Secret Pursuit. And although there are cruel scenes, there is almost no adult Korean male who has not seen this movie.

Man from Nowhere swept the Korean version of the Oscars. Best movie, actor, actress, and a couple more categories. There has never been another movie in Korea that has come close to this movie. There have been other movies that have been excellent and followed the ideology of this movie but none have come close. The more people that watch this movie, it just keeps adding to its legendary status.
1. The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil 2. The Outlaws 1 3. The Roundup (The Outlaws 2) 3. The Roundup: No way out (The Outlaws 3) All The movies have Don Lee. You'd recognise him.
41:44 untrue. The man from nowhere came out before both the raid 1 and 2. I would say niether movies got inspired by eachother. They are two separate movies, each with their own uniqueness.
Here's my thought on ramrowan (karambit knife villain who spoke English). Well, since he was a Thai assassin from the movie, he couldn't speak Korean. He saved the girl because he perhaps had a past similar like tae sik (main character of this film). He shot the eyes because the eyes weren't the girls eyes and he didn't want tae sik to keep the guys eyes. They fought because they couldn't communicate with eachother. Ramrowan fought tae sik because his intention was the same as his, which was saving the girl which he did. So it was only him and tae sik at the final scene. In the fight, it seems like he just wanted to die tho. At that exact moment, he also felt that tae sik being alive for the girl would be better and ramrowan also remembers all the bad things he has done. All of that feelings mixed up made ramrowan want to die. He basically just play fought that final fight without going full force. When he is stabbed, you can see it in his face that he felt bad about the things he has done, and he feels like his death is deserved but also the sadness that he couldn't tell tae sik that the girl is alive, or any message because he doesn't know Korean.
We get used to corporal punishment at an early age so brutal is the norm. One thing to note: This movie makes use of the "white truck of death" trope. Used in a lot of Korean movies and television series, the white truck of death is the usual convenient way for a character to get killed off.
Epic film. Nice pace with a good story. Fight scene was epic. Not overly done and realistic. But I don't think it was influenced by the movie taken. There are many Korean stories like this.
another fun fact is that john wick is actually inspired by this movie! if you think about it, john loses it over his dog as this guy loses it over the little girl. :’)
@@petrel6479To be honest, Johnwick isn't even more interesting. I've watched all four of Canu's Johnwick movies, so I personally can't catch up with half of this movie
If this movie was released later than John wick. Jaby would be in every single scene this was inspired from John wick and that scene was inspired from John wick. But the reality is John Wick was inspired from the Korean movie Man from nowhere the OG badass movie.
For not even a single time he thought John wick might be inspired from this movie. Really jaby for a guy who compare everything with Hollywood stuffs he didn't think that. This is a double standard all the good and original ideas can only come from HW.
I love this movie! Remember watching and rewatching it many times along with Tropa de Elite 1 and 2. Very powerful. One of the best knife scene in movie history as well, imo, along with Donnie Yen one with Wu Jing in Kill Zone.
18:45 “He didn’t even ask them the first time.” Actually, he did mate ages ago mate. He asked the boss on the phone to let the girl and the drug mom go, then he found drug mom dead in the boot after he did what they ordered.
I loved Donnie Yen in John Wick 4 but the fan(In me)of this movie thought that it would have been dope to have CHA be 1 of John's past friend who gets pitted against him to protect...His"Daughter" It would have been a cool nod to this movie(Which I thought that the John Wick movies seemed inspired by) I know that the John Wick directors are a fan of this movie
Odd thing about Korean Law, self-defense is tricky there and if you injure the attacker you can be held liable for injuries. (violent crime doesn't happen nearly as much there as it does here as well) But proactive defense can be taken badly by the police. You might also like My Name if you haven't seen it. Acting is great, action is very good and the story was fun.
Well put, As a Korean I think its safe to say most Koreans hate that law tho, sometimes we watch US news and envy how the defender can kill the assailants and be trialed as non-guilty. That's justice.
@@mheekkim2901even in the uk it’s the same. If you beat an intruder unconscious you’ll still serve jail time. But weirdly enough farmers are allowed to kill intruders without consequences.
The Raid and TMFN are very different though both use realistic applications of Kali and Silat as both close quarter fighting arts are used to train SFs around the world. TMFN was inspired by the Bourne movies who is the pioneer of the shaky cam which quickly got phased out by The Raid movies that started the wide, steady camera angles which is now the standard implemented in the JW and Extraction movies. Both are amazing for their time.
You really should react to ma dong seok movies next - the outlaws, the roundup 1 and 2 , the cop ,the devil and the gangster Also there's a movie with ma dong seok and the little girl (all grown up now) titled Ordinary People. Awesome movie.
This is the most accurate (not necessairly realistic) modern penkat silat knife fight proposed by cinema and there is NO movement that doesn't have a reason (movement economy) 29:30 in a mess like this a trained military police intell operative (in this case) never stays in the same place, he drags a hostile cutting the tendons, (avoiding his hand to clench) while looking at the others, and then severes the radial artery at wrist level. Armpits, axillary artery and tendon. He ends up cutting the throat of the guy on the ground, he doesn't cut, he stabs next to the trachea, severing the carotid artery and jugular, (this is the real way to cut a throat, not the cinematic usual thing), pulling the knife away opens the laceration, speeding up the "process". Whoever choreographed this film is a master of the modern use of the knife. It's brutal, but it's done by the book. A trained man with a knife and nothing to lose is the most dangerous thing you can get. I don't buy the 1v1 though. Not saying realistic, but how should be done. Law enforcement is trained (if trained) in a military style of knife retenction and stabs for 3 weeks, this takes years, commitment to violence, and is studied for pure assassination.
When I saw this movie, I thought "Finally! A good looking Asian action star" Won Bin is like a taller, better looking (Sorry Jet) Jet Li. I've read about why he hadn't done any acting since and it's too bad. I think fans (me included) had been hoping that he comes back one of these days.
Some say Raid "may have been" inspired by Man From Nowhere ? It is a licensed copy ! If you spot a similarity between Korean and Indian contents, it's India's purchase of the copyright.
I watched this movie last year, looked the lead up and found he never made another movie after this one. I was gutted. His character made me want to watch more of his content, but I was disappointed to find no other work from him.

2023년 막바지에 봐도... 원빈 연기가 상당한데, 아직도 후기작이 없는게 너무 아쉬움... 캬...
The raid came after this movie
This was my first Korean movie and so far still my fav!
어머낫!!!👍👍👍
This movie was my introduction into Korean cinema. I saw it around 2014. Been watch Korean movies/tv shows ever since!
me too
1. The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil
2. The Outlaws 1
3. The Roundup (The Outlaws 2)
3. The Roundup: No way out (The Outlaws 3)
All The movies have Don Lee. You'd recognise him.
Now you need to see The Gangster the Cop and the Devil, another Korean flick. If you saw Train to Busan you'd recognize the gangster.
Such a great b-actioner. Wildly entertaining.
And the outlaws, the roundup the roundup: no way out
They need to see I Saw the Devil, Monster, Confidential assignment 1&2, Midnight and The Call.
This movie is a masterpiece.
33:40 The reason he's trying to take his own life is because HID and UDU actually took his own life when he failed his mission
We get used to corporal punishment at an early age so brutal is the norm.
One thing to note: This movie makes use of the "white truck of death" trope. Used in a lot of Korean movies and television series, the white truck of death is the usual convenient way for a character to get killed off.
Other names include "truck of doom"
At 11:13 the guy who speaks English is a Thai actor
Thanayong Wongtrakul
Epic film. Nice pace with a good story. Fight scene was epic. Not overly done and realistic. But I don't think it was influenced by the movie taken. There are many Korean stories like this.
Before John Wick there was Man From Nowhere
another fun fact is that john wick is actually inspired by this movie! if you think about it, john loses it over his dog as this guy loses it over the little girl. :’)
Yeah very much similar, aren't you a genius?
@@petrel6479To be honest, Johnwick isn't even more interesting. I've watched all four of Canu's Johnwick movies, so I personally can't catch up with half of this movie
While filming scene at 25:15 cameraman jump with actor, this shot is fantastic!
19:07 Kristen's reaction😂😂😂😂
18:45 “He didn’t even ask them the first time.”
Actually, he did mate ages ago mate. He asked the boss on the phone to let the girl and the drug mom go, then he found drug mom dead in the boot after he did what they ordered.
What a great movie. It was entertaining but made me get emotional
at the same time. I enjoyed it very much.
One of my very favorite movies. I really liked all of the cast but the young girl, just melts your heart.
Knife guy just couldn't let that surgeon take her eyes because she was kind to him, Giving him a band-aid
My favorite movie of all time, i watch it once a year 😊,
I loved Donnie Yen in John Wick 4 but the fan(In me)of this movie thought that it would have been dope to have CHA be 1 of John's past friend who gets pitted against him to protect...His"Daughter"
It would have been a cool nod to this movie(Which I thought that the John Wick movies seemed inspired by)
I know that the John Wick directors are a fan of this movie
22:57 that haircut scene is one legit point in the movie
I'm surprised Jaby didn't comment on the karambit, the curved knife. It's a popular weapon in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Yes, please keep this channel active....
You really should react to ma dong seok movies next - the outlaws, the roundup 1 and 2 , the cop ,the devil and the gangster
Also there's a movie with ma dong seok and the little girl (all grown up now) titled Ordinary People. Awesome movie.
I recommend "The Terror Live"
The screenplay and directing are truly amazing.
Just try it.
You'll be hooked on the movie in just 5 minutes.
리액션 감사해요😊❤
Bollywood version of this called Rocky Handsome
잘 보고 갑니다. ~~~
Did you guys know this was the movie that inspired john wick, look it up
This movie was made in 2010. What inspired what ?
Rocky Handsome ❤
When I saw this movie, I thought "Finally! A good looking Asian action star" Won Bin is like a taller, better looking (Sorry Jet) Jet Li. I've read about why he hadn't done any acting since and it's too bad. I think fans (me included) had been hoping that he comes back one of these days.
Someone i love showed me this movie. He took his life infront of me. I cry nonstop watching this
With his wife and child dead, all he had were the crunches. An ab day that would never end.
This movie is a banger and a go to for me when I show people a “foreign “ film.
Ohh! So this was the inspiration for Rocky Handsome starring John Abraham...
Some say Raid "may have been" inspired by Man From Nowhere ? It is a licensed copy ! If you spot a similarity between Korean and Indian contents, it's India's purchase of the copyright.
This movie is top 5 of all time, fight me lol. It's so incredibly well done.
25:13 one of the best shots In modern cinema
Wud love to see jaby's reaction to My Name series
The original John👊🏿😡 f’n Wick.😉🫸🏿🫷
good
Jaby if you liked this movie you have to watch A Bittersweet Life, I'm sure you will like it.
Best Korean film in my opinion
That jump through the window btw is real, and the camera operator had to jump with the actor
잘 보고 갑니다 😊😊
I watched this movie last year, looked the lead up and found he never made another movie after this one. I was gutted. His character made me want to watch more of his content, but I was disappointed to find no other work from him.
그의 영화에 태극기 휘날리며라는 영화가 있습니다,,한국전쟁을 소재로 한 영화입니다.
찐❤북한 ❤긴장하죠❤예비군도❤싸움잘해요😊
That was a good movie.
very good movie
Thank you for the reaction. If you're looking for the next movie, I recommend War of the Arrows (2011) and Exit (2019).
I've seen this movie before it's deep, truthful and harsh.
진짜 긴머리와 짧은머리 원빈 너무 잘생겼다...ㅋㅋㅋ
I love this movie and recommend to everyone. Most have only seen part of the final fight scene. Thank u for not using the English dub. I think some of the story is lost.❤❤😂
Guys, as you are diving in Korean cinema please do watch Old Man, Ode to My Father, Miracle in Cell No 7 (You’ll brawl), More Than Blue, any Ma Dong Seok movies you’ll absolutely love them and many many more movie, list goes on. Pls pls plsss go through the ones above.
Ohmymymy Great emotional réactions Mr And especially the nice Lady with justice words as well 💜 And Always make me tears UP everytime though !! Please do the next movie of the same director with "no tears for the dead" 😊🙏
Fun fact: John Wick drew inspiration from The Man From Nowhere
