So glad y’all watched this! And man, y’all did really well, I sobbed for the last few minutes of the movie the first time. Seeing him finally end it but realizing it wasn’t enough, she was gone and he let other people get hurt, just seeing all of his emotion, I SOBBED.
Yeah I can understand wanting to make him suffer but he definitely didn't do a good job of stopping him from hurting others which makes it way less satisfying of a story to me
@@Shyknit Yupp and think that was the whole point …it wasnt fully satisfying for us or him that’s why the cry at the end hits so hard ..,he did what he set out to do but the true realization of what had to be lost to get there was to much to hold in …it’s a raw example of the downside to revenge …that’s why it’s a top tier movie to me … America would have ruined the ending if it were made here 😂
The first time I saw this 12 years ago the ending absolutely fucking destroyed me. Soo-hyun tracked down, tortured and killed the man who took his wife away. He got his revenge. But at what cost? Revenge was ultimately futile. It didn't bring his wife back. His actions had others hurt or killed along the way. In the end, it didn't bring him peace or closure, and he lost so much of himself too. What a brutal and heartbreaking movie. It’s definitely my favorite revenge film for sure 😊
She bandaged him I assume because the protagonist told her to. She didn’t have much agency in the entire interaction or series of interactions, obviously…
The Good, The Bad, The Weird is also a must-see. It's actually a n action comedy. It's called Korean spaghetti film. Kinda how Americans have slapstick comedy or horror comedy like Shaun of the Dead or Motel Hell.
I interpreted the final crying scene not as a release of everything, but him realizing that she isn't coming back. Of course he always KNEW that, in his head, no one can just come back from the dead...but we sometimes get in in our head that revenge will make us feel better. And after all he did, he doesn't feel any better...he actually feels just as alone as he did when she died.
A friend got this for me as a birthday gift a few years ago. Neither of us had seen it, but he knew my movie tastes and took a chance. Boy, did we have a time. It forever lives in my head when "intense/good Korean films" comes up as a topic.
So glad you guys decided to check this one out, even though it wasn’t easy for you lmao the actor playing the killer is Choi Min-Sik, and he’s fucking incredible. His best role (and one of the best films ever made in my opinion) is that of the main character in Oldboy, which came out seven years prior in 2003. That movie has the same dark and gritty feeling as this one, with twists and turns that make you gasp, then cry, then gasp again. I won’t give much away plot-wise, but you two should definitely look into it and consider reacting to it! There are absolutely horror elements to it, but I guess I’d peg it as more of a psychological thriller?
Watched the watch along on Patreon and still wanted to watch the edited reaction as well. This was a wild and bloody ride. As usual, your commentary made the experience even better
This is my fave Korean horror movie (Sorry, Train To Busan). It's relentless, even when it gives you a moment to breathe, you're still holding your breath knowing that something will happen. The murderer was in Oldboy, which is another wild ride. Those Koreans know what they're doing! John Wick is worth watching. The dog scene is really sad, I won't lie to you. But the rest of the film is revenge for the dog, which is honestly such a perfect premise I'm shocked it wasn't used before. All the sequels are great too. That franchise has top notch action sequences. I know this might sound weird, but if you watch The Warriors and play Hotline Miami before watching John Wick 4, you'll appreciate that movie even more.
I hope y’all watch Oldboy (2003) one day - and maybe The Wailing. Korean cinema is 🤌🏻 but gosh this reaction was good - the emotions I felt the first time I ever watched it were nothing short of a roller coaster!
The scene in the cab confused me, but I think that they two people in the cab were other killers and they were using his own tactics against him, which is how he knew what was up Then the body in the trunk was the actual cabbie that they already killed
It's okay Sergio - have heard plenty of people had that reaction during the Hannibal TV series (definitely recommend checking it out sometime too, they hired a chef to make all the fancy food that Hannibal makes in the show to purposefully make it look appetizing).
I love Korean media, whether its horror, drama, comedy. Its so well done, especially horror. They just have a way of doing unhinged shit so well. People who eat human flesh can get pryon disease's that basically eat holes through the brain there are tribal groups with a history of cannibalism that are actually immune to the disease
One of my favorites but nothing tops The Wailing. If you are a horror fan you need to watch The Wailing. Other recommendations: The Chaser, Midnight, The Call and Memories of Murder
I’ve never hated a villain more! This movie is so heavy, but it is excellent. The acting is just so good. These are the kind of films that stick with you. Loved y’all’s reaction!❤
i seen this movie like 4times, twice cuz i had no subtitles but it was too good i didnt need it theni found the one with subtitles and omg i love it even more
I'm sorry but MISSING OUT on all of the John Wicks because of a 2 minute dog scene is insane. You owe it to yourselves to see that action lol. Plus you're totally on board with all the massacres the whole time 😂
To be honest, i watched JW4 first, then i watched all of the others after that because i don't want to watch the dog scene. Even when i was watching JW1, i skipped the dog part.
First of all, you guys are awesome and I'm so glad I found this channel. Second, this took me right back to when I saw this film the first time and I recognized so many of my own reactions in yours, right down to Cody's observation that maybe the title referred to the guy seeing the devil in himself. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Not sure if anyone downthread has mentioned this, but the guy who directed this also wrote and directed A Tale of Two Sisters, which is a really elegant ghost story that's completely tonally different from this (not nearly as traumatizing -- well, maybe not as *relentlessly* traumatizing, anyway) and totally worth seeing. Keep up the great work!
John wick is amazing and you don’t necessarily see the dog die in the movie u just hear it but I still cry everytime I watch it I most just skip it😭😭😭but I love yall 🥰amazing Reaction as usual 😊
Choi Min-sik, absolutely phenomenal actor! Adding my voice to the recs you've had for Oldboy, that is an absolutely seminal movie. AND then you must watch Lady Vengeance, which he is also in, and which is probably one of my fav movies of all time. After that, the rabbit hole of Park Chan-wook horror movies must be next. Thirst, for example, is amazing. And though it's not gory so much as disturbing, Handmaiden, is probably one of the most perfect movies ever made. He also made a movie in English, Stoker, which brilliant too. Finally, to round out this journey into South Korean movie excellence, I'd also like to recommend A Tale of Two Sisters and Train to Busan.
I've truly begun to love Korean horror, as it captures this insane balance of terror, trauma, and somehow... humor (literally did a spit-take at the knife handle scene XD ). But it only serves to make the darkness even worse. Such a perfect reflection of Nietzsche's quote, _He who fights monsters best take take, lest he become a monster himself_
this movie is one of those where you gotta put on something funny just to fall asleep after, i love it though it's so in-your-face and confrontational and mean
This is definitely one of my fav korean movies. Very well done..amazing actinh, cinematography, storytelling and music I wish more channels reacted to it, its hardcore but VEEEERY worth it. Both of them are the each other's devil tbh
This movie is so dark, atmospheric and good. And really sad and messed up obviously, but the thing I always took from the title is he saw the devil, like looking into the abyss. It messed him up and ruined a part of him, that's why he does such borderline things like the torture obviously, risking or straight up ruining other people's lives and forcing that nurse to be his accomplice basically. He saw the devil because he went to hell and now has to live in it. The only way to get "even" was to hurt the innocent family members of the killer in the process.
What a “pleasant” surprise! Great point about the parallels of them both wiping the blood off their faces. It’s like some kind of ouroboros pendulum, what becomes a symbiotic, seemingly unending symbiotic relationship between an unmovable object and an unstoppable force. And the title itself is so brilliant, working on several levels. I think the director said that the actors also balanced each other out because he described the villain’s actor as having a hot (I believe) energy and the “hero” a cold / cool vibe. Which is true; as you mentioned, the antagonist was very visceral. And then I guess the hero was like a machine, laser focused, channeling everything into his pursuit. Great reaction!
When I saw this movie what I realized that it's like "if you keep playing with your food it will come back to bite you" and he (white ninja in G.I.Joe) if he would have killed him on the spot his in laws wouldn't be harmed but he didn't listen to reason and it caused them their lives well this movie reminds me of I spit on your grave and another one with the killer putting people online and the more the people watch or see it the faster it kills them Well I love you guys keep up the good work ❤❤❤❤
You won't see the killer actor as killer in another film easily. He was literally traumatized from this film. He got scared of himself getting angry and thinking like killer in his own real life.
Definitely a classic! Saw this is a small theater several years back. Gotta watch "Old Boy" (original Korean version) if you get a chance. It's a psychological thriller btw.
i love that there are non-English selections on this channel. I used to consider this as one of those kinds of movies that are very good but could only be watched once. I remember when i first watched this, i kinda felt bad for a while ad sulked for days because it made me feel like the world is disgusting, dangerous and unfair, but i've consumed darker- and heavier-themed movies since and have rewatched this a few more times with friends who are new to korean films and it's become one of my favorite non-English thrillers. another one i wish to one day see on this channel is a reaction to the 2012 South Korean thriller "Confession of Murder", which is currently available on Amazon Prime (at least here in Japan it is). It has a Japanese remake which changed the story slightly but I think the original Korean one is superior.
When I saw you were reacting to my favorite movie, I had to give y'all a watch. Most people I tell about it are too dumb and lazy to because of subtitles. Missing out, deservedly. Korean horror is the best! 🖤
Cory seems impressed with the actor who played the killer, he should check the same actor out in Oldboy from 2003 (there's an American remake that came out 10 years later, that one I would avoid...)
The actor who played the killer in this movie was also in Old Boy. Another movie that I highly recommend.
Can’t recommend Oldboy enough!!
Yes!! I need Cody and Sergio to see it so badly! Choi Min-Sik is incredible in that movie, too
And also dude the actor who played the killer in this movie is also the killer in Lady Vengeance, highly recommended if you want spit in your grave type 😊
I was going to say that! The vengeance series is a must watch, not horror but so good. Also throwing in audition and ichi the killer
This x3
I think this is the film that really opened my eyes to the genius of Korean cinema.

She bandaged him I assume because the protagonist told her to. She didn’t have much agency in the entire interaction or series of interactions, obviously…
