  • While football fans await tonight's England vs Senegal World Cup match with nervous anticipation, at Cambridge Muslim College we reflect on one of Senegal’s most exemplary scholars - Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba.
After enduring imprisonment for his resistance to French rule in Senegal, Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba went on to establish the holy city of Touba in modern day Senegal. Writing extensively on Islamic matters to strengthen the faith of the Senegalese people, a legacy which remains to this day.
In this instalment of our Paradigms of Leadership Lecture Series, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad explores how this 19th century scholar kept the Islamic tradition alive in Senegal despite great internal and external challenges.
    ---
Muslim history brims with detailed accounts of incredible leaders. Some are better known than others but they all demonstrated a range of beautiful leadership qualities that we can learn from today.
In this ongoing Lecture Series, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad chooses exemplary figures in Islamic history of every generation, geography and gender, drawing out particular lessons for us: both in the way they carried themselves through society and in the principles they employed in handling the urgent challenges of their day.

Subhannallah! Only the Truth remains, no matter of long it takes and how far away it seems to be at time. I’m deeply grateful to the my favorite Sheikh Abdul Hakim for paying this beautiful tribute to Cheikh Ahamdou Bamba! Being from Senegal I’m deeply grateful to Bamba for having been the perfect example of the Muslim in the black African colonial context. His way was that of sincerity, learning, endurance patience and gratefulness. That’s the Islam I was brought up in. May Allah be pleased with Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba. And Sheikh Abdul Hakim gives a very accurate account of the Senegalese modern history! Thank you very much ya Sheikh!

What an awesome lecture for a very special person who advocated for tawhid, fiq and tasawuf, all with strict ly following sunnah of prophet SAW and working hard to be autonomous.
He’s a great model of patience ( persecuted for 33 years for no reason but his faithfulness and his project to restore authentic islam seen as threat by french occupation and by local rulers ). There’re obviously way many more things muslims may learn from his life. He tremendously designed the education of millions of people by his methodology he preciously write down in his numberless books.

Very beautiful MashaAllah jazakumullahu khairan Shaykh !
You mentioning looking into the work of Shaykh Bamba as useful for our situation is very interesting.
The Qasida is amaizing, nice threads too :)
The information about Sit Hajjar was fascinating, her kinky hair and dark skin. She is my grand grand mother and never before I looked into it as having African blood. Just amaizing.
