My thing is that tempered glass, that is the material used for glass bridges, can take a car's worth of weight and not be effected. The only thing that can really cause them to crack and break is a hard hit of a pointed edge, like throwing a rock or falling and landing on an arm with a watch directly in contact of the bridge. Those pieces of glass are usually several centimeters thick and encased in a layer of plastic(that is why in car wrecks the glass kinda sticks together and can be rolled back, it's a safety feature so shards don't go flying everywhere) which also helps holds the cracked glass together (also why you can drive around with a cracked windshield and the way to repair it is to inject resin between the layers of plastic, so the resin fills in the empty spaces between the plastic sheets on both sides). Basically what I'm saying is that the guy running across the bridge wasn't what made it break. The glass bridge was coming down due to the movement between the towers squeezing and pulling apart the bridge between them over and over. People can't do that kind of damage on their own, and there are so many safe guards put into structures like that, if it was build properly.
tempered glass can't escape the existence of microscopic cracks that will become the center of a larger crack when under loads.
