It’s fun until you start pulling all-nighters constantly for college/work so the feeling usually goes away by the time you graduate. At least that’s how it was at my high school.
I'm glad people are again collectively realizing it was never good. I kept hearing people in college almost brag about studying for days straight with no sleep. I have no idea why they felt the need to do that to begin with, but I'm sure they had their reasons, even though it's often counter productive. When I got my first two jobs out of college I would still hear people brag about how many hours of little sleep they got due to them working in the night. I wish we could replace the words hard work with work smart or strategically--that way people can finally stop equating putting themselves at discomfort with die-hard determination. Sleep is what gives you the ability to work better and smarter, so get them Zs, people.

There's a disorder called Fatal familial insomnia where it eventually leads to the person affected losing the ability to sleep therefore leading to death. It remains dormat until your 30s or so. I learned about it in my psychology class. Crazyyy.

This movie reminds me an awful lot of a book I read called Nod. Overnight, everyone loses their ability to fall asleep. The only ones who can still do it are children and very, very few adults. The protagonist is one of these people and the entire story centers around everyone he knows, including his wife (girlfriend?) gradually going insane from lack of sleep. They form a cult, the military is somehow still running, the kids are actually acting more like feral animals than children and he's the only sane human being who isn't also suicidal.
I watched this movie, and my initial thought when it ended was "Well this is a stupid and pointless movie" I get they're trying to say how sleep deprivation is bad, but like there's more questions than answers. The dying and returning back to life was the last bs I needed 😭😭 Your summary make it sound like it's actually a good movie which I applaud.
i have severe insomnia and semi often cant sleep for 3 or 4 days straight and even at that point i cant speak clearly or read at all. it also makes it incredably difficult to process emotions and they always feel intense and urgent. the idea of everyone being like that is actually horrifying.

As someone who has hyperinsomnia due to severe PTSD, whose organs started to shut down from a full week of this, this really strikes a chord. Most people don't get how terrifying it is, all the more terrifying as your mind reaches ever closer towards the breaking point.
My father only sleep for 6,7 days permonth at the final years before he passed away. He barely eat or drink and delirious. It was a really cruel and slow way to go. He suffer from undiagnosed brain conditions, start from paralysis, muscle failure and Imsomnia.
I havent watched the full video yet, but I have a theory: since matilda almost drowned but got helped and the old woman got resustitated, what if people that can sleep were dead for a few seconds and then brought back to life?
The massive solar flare at the beginning, screwed up the populations nervous system, Matilda was drowned and dead for a few minutes. The elder died of a stroke, and was resuscitated. My issue was Matilda was not defibrillated.

It's is scary what sleep deprivation can do to people. Maybe not to this extent but definitely not a good outcome
The thing is, you won't stay sane after a week of sleep deprivation. Human can only stay alive for 11+ days without sleeping.
Actually, the real effects are way worse. Body shuts down, metabolism gets fucked, you go insane, experience extreme pain and of course, die
