Rockhounding in New Zealand - exploring a river for crystals, minerals, petrified wood, toffee stone

  • I head down to the Hororata river to look for agates, petrified wood, toffee stone and jasper. It was a rainy and overcast day which made it a bit harder as the sun wasn't making the agates sparkle. Luckily, we found an area that had been bulldozed recently and found quite a few nice agates.

      That sounds like a great haul! My best is still on the beaches, I find most of the agates there.

    Apart from the obvious thrill of finding interesting/pretty stones and seeing what's inside, what do you do with these?
