Yo! So cool to see New Zealand rocks. I'm a Kiwi living on Gold Coast now and I love seeing my homeland. I enjoyed the walk along the river. Really cool to see your finds. Popping over to your fossil channel too. I love science and history. That's a huge crab. It looks really cool. 🦖
The paired seam agate geodes were so neat! It's wonderful to think about what their tumble from origin to discovery location must have been like. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what's going on inside some of those, when you have the time and inclination to cut them. Something about your area creates agates with the very best internal landscapes.
Fun to see you Rockhounding. I wonder if you kept the really big speckled one? Both you and Marlains Atkinson have the cleanest hands on videos! Thanks.
Haha nz is far away from Australia mate we are an entiremy separate country several hours large jet plane ride away, but Australia is amazinggggg as well :)
WOW!!! some spectacular finds there, what a great hunt!!! Those mystery rocks got me intrigued too. Just at a glance they could be some kind of limb cast species of petrified wood or maybe they could be a type of jaspagate (jasper and agate combo). That might give you somewhere to go from for further research.
Just watched a few of your videos today for the first time and like the content. As such count me in as a new subscriber (from Canada). Visiting your homeland someday is definitely on my bucket list; and I would probably need the bucket (for agate) when I get there, 😊 👍🍁
👍🥰, i still dont see how you can go rockhounding without scanning for fossils?! I've watched several now n i still find myself looking for fossils n shells, lol. I have a few i follow for shelling, 😘. So yea, i look for shells too. Thanx for shareing Mamlambo ❣
Hahahaha I still look for fossils! This area is volcanic so doesn't have any fossils that I have found... yet!! Thanks for always having such kind comments!
WOW , man nice trip ,...Im stuck here in western kentucky 8100 miles away with all this missisippian crud , but im sure youd like to trade for a day or two, my friend you must have noticed many of the see thu ,opalescent , or chalcedony you find look VERY VERY reminiscent of the fossils you find on the beach just with no matrix left its fairly common to find quartz fossil shells and crinoid stems here, well not rare anyway, and I believe you leave huge chunks of it on your favorite fossil beaches,...the only way to tell is if theyre see thru,...I know hard to tell in the day ,...it helps to have a small powerful mag flashlight to hold up to them,...all them big ole red yella orange and white sparklers you leave behind...good hunting Mike in kentucky
That green thing is might be a sign of some copper mine or a pic coming from a place that got copper, and that jasper is the sea jasper, usually got that pattern on it, if I am not wrong
I might be going crazy but I think you sound just jemaine from flight of the conchords 😆 amazing finds, some beautiful banding. You have just gained one new jealous Aussie subscriber 🤪
Hi from Whangarei, Northland 😁 I am very new to rock hounding and fossil hunting and recently discovered your channels, so am greatfully gleaning any information I can from you about rock and fossil identification. I noticed on the small piece of chalcedony you found still attached to the host rock, that the host rock also had the green spotty mineral throughout that you saw in the agates you found. May help with identifying the mineral 😁 Any suggestions of books or research I can do relating to New Zealand rocks and fossils (or secret Northland spots) I can keep a secret til the grave 👍 would be greatfully received. Thank you and keep up the great content 😁🙏
Hi Sarah! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! If you don't have it, Jocelyn Thornton's Field Guide to New Zealand Geology is amazing. Also, Malcolm Luxton has a great book on agates but there aren't many left.
@@mamlamborocks Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will definitely be getting a copy of those to read up on if I can get my hands on them. Much appreciated advice 😁👍🙏
If by any chance you see this comment. Would you be able to share the location with me? I’m on the hunt for more places to rock hound in my surrounding area :)

Loving this channel as much as fossil channel.
Yay!! Glad you like rocks and minerals as well 😀😀
Yay, thanks so much!
I am so jealous of you and Rookie Rockhound, you Aussies have the most beautiful Carnelian agates in the world. Sending love from Texas. 👍🤠🇺🇸
Thanks so much, though I'm across the Tasman sea in New Zealand 😀
Haha you Mexicans are a crack up. 😄
Why do Americans think that Australia and NZ are one in the same? How would they like to be called Canadian or Mexican?

Have you cut some of your finds yet?I'm like a kiddie waiting to see!
@@dr1609 not yet!! I'll try and get it done this week still. That big one is an agate!!
Beautiful pieces you found. Absolutely love your videos. Keep them coming!
There are a lot of agates I found in birdling flat.
Some good size chalcedony but my favourite find would have to be the carnelian thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks so much mate! Yeah, that carnelian is great! I am hopeful about the large one I found, maybe there is something amazing inside!
It looks about as cold and mizzy as it is today in Cape Town!
Hahahaha it was not windy thank goodness, the wind chill would have made it way too cold!
Thanks! I liked your found agates!A clear, close image. I liked what I saw, watched the video twice🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Cool video, really lovely finds.
I bet that river was freezing 🤣🤣
I'd love to hear what was in that large Jasper
You and me both! I have to cut it soon, I honestly couldn't feel my feet for like 3 hours afterwards.
Amazing! I don’t find anything like this walking around the streets of NYC😆

Some nice pieces from the river, they look pretty good. 👍
Thanks 👍

Beatiful orange carnelian agates 😎
The agates are amazing! Do you ever find geodes?
Anyone know what the stone was at 3:29 at the bottom of the screen that's somewhat blood-red? Looked interesting :)
Where are you in New zealand whats the beach called.
And then what do you do with them?
Hole is called a vog
Can you explain that a bit more please? I'm not sure I understand!
In agates and other rocks a hole where crystals form is called Vug. My bag calling it vog. So glad I double checked my assertion. I am fallible
