- Today we’re exploring Japan’s second largest Chinatown, Nankinmachi Kobe! We’ll take you on a Japan street food tour of Chinatown in Kobe city!

Nankinmachi, Kobe’s Chinatown is a Japanese Street Food Paradise. As part of our Kobe Japan Travel Guide, we’ll show you the top things to do and eat in Kobe city- starting with its famous Chinatown. Nankinmachi is the largest Chinatown in Kansai and one of the three major Chinatowns in Japan- along with Yokohama Chinatown and Nagasaki Chinatown. In this Kobe street tour video we’ll show you some hidden street food spots and unique japan street foods! Nankinmachi is rich in history and you should add it to your Japan itinerary! As Kobe is only 30 mins from Osaka it is Japan’s perfect day trip and should not be missed especially if you visit over the Chinese New Year period as many festivities are held!

Hi we’re Theo and Ashley, a British couple who decided to pack up and move to Japan 🇯🇵 We spent a year living in the countryside of the northern prefecture of Hokkaido before moving to Kobe City! The pork belly bun is a take on the Taiwanese guo bao btw. Loved the duck "wrap" you got, would just come back for it. Of course everything is made for the more Japanese taste and changed, but it is a nice Chinatown ❤️

Yes, there was an intermission of your TH-cam channelling... but very good to see a Chinatown in Japan. Always didactic with the factual info, which I find especially trivial and fascinating. I wish you went further with more food tasting - such as fried or steamed dumplings, juicy buns, dim sum samplings. I inquired before about if you share some of your videos to your students, and how you incorporate this in daily language lessons? When does your school contract end - in March/April? Why did you not teach English in China rather than Japan? Cheers.
Thanks for your comment! We had planned to show Lunar New Year celebrations in this video but this year the lion dance and other public celebrations were cancelled due to restrictions 😢 We don’t share our videos with our current students as they’re elementary school children- if we were teaching in high schools I think it would be a great idea! We decided to come to Japan because of the JET Programme- which has good support structures and really helped us with the move over here! Our contracts end in August every year but we can recontract up to 5 years on our current programme 😊
@@wegoeast Brilliant idea if you were able to have shown Lunar New Year celebrations but Japan is still keeping festivities conservative sadly. Ah… so Kobe observes more Western school calendars or is it just to sync with Western university calendars? Also, I will have to invite you when I am settled in Tokyo for one of my family’s favorite historical restaurant in Ginza, or if you prefer a more mountainous Onsen locale, our family’s retreat in Karuizawa/Nagano. Have you been to Karuizawa Nagano region? Snowy winters, cool summers.

イギリスにもチャイナタウンあるけど違いってあるんかなー
すぐに横浜に行けるといいですね！ ロンドンのチャイナタウンは日本のチャイナタウンと似ていますが、レストランが多く、屋台の食べ物が少ないです。
