    How were you able to wear bathing suit into osen? They allowed it? I thought you must wash and go in naked only.

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bath you're talking about is a private onsen which you fill up yourself and then drain afterwards. Public onsens, and those which are already full must be entered into naked (and after a thorough wash)!

    thanks for your videos. When it comes to Kyushu, planning a trip is way way harder than in Kansai, Kanto or Aichi as information is hard to comes by.
    I am glad, I found your video.

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  ปีที่แล้ว

      We think the same thing. Kyushu is amazing but more difficult to plan. We would usually get the shinkansen to Fukuoka and then down to Kagoshima, or take the Sunflower ferry (amazing and different way to travel) to Beppu (our favourite place in Kyushu) and then explore Oita, Miyazaki and even Takachiho gorge and mt Aso. Where do you like in Kyuhsu?

    We are visiting Beppu now and the sand bath place close in April 2020. Worth to mention it here in case anyone is looking for that.

      I just checked and you're right, as of April 2023 the beach sand bath has been closed, but will open in the future with better facilities. You can still do Sand Baths at both Hyotan Onsen and Takegawara onsen!!

    Would an English speaker survive without Japanese in Beppu or would you need to speak Japanese to visit there.

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should be fine, most of the things don't require much conversation (for which you can use Google translate if needed), lots of things have vending machines, but there is a big university in Beppu so the general level of English is better than average I'd day

      Thank you! And no problem at all:
      1. Google "Sunflower Ferry Osaka"
      2. Click "Web reservations" on the righthand side of the page
      3. Click "make a reservation" under 'Non-members/members'
      4. Click the non members reservation button.
      5. Select all the relevant details for the trip you want to take (one way/ return, date, section, etc)
      6. Select the cabin you want
      7. Proceed to reservation without logging In
      8. Input all your information
      9. I'd imagine the next section is payment (card / convenience store) but I didn't make it this far 😁
      10. Enjoy your trip!!

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would always recommend pre booking as you just never know how busy the car rental place will be! That being said, it will be less busy during the week so I've got my fingers crossed you'll be alright. We rented from 'Toyota Rent-a-car Beppu Ekimae' (copy and paste that into Google maps) it's right opposite Beppu train station and they were great!

    Hello! I am planning to head down to Hyotan Onsen for my Japan trip next week. How do I go about to make reservation for the private bath? Or can I just do so when I am there? Hope to hear from you soon!

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  ปีที่แล้ว

      The private onsens can only be booked on the day - you have to turn up and they will tell you what's available. I would highly recommend going to hyotan first thing in the morning as it can get busy later on, so give yourself the best chance of getting one! Hope you have an amazing time in Beppu! Also consider the Hoyoland mud onsen for something a bit different

      There's so much we couldn't include in the video as well! Hoyoland (which we couldn't film) was arguably our favourite thing in beppu. It's a mud onsen AND it has a mixed section, which is very rare in Japan, but because of the mud you can't see anything

    English speaking people usually poorly mispronounce words in Japanese mistakenly using the English pronunciation for words spoken in Japanese like this speaker pronounced Oita (oyta) like soy when it's pronounce Oh-ee-tah. If you speak spanish or Latin you will have a better pronunciation. It's honorable and more respectful to ask a Japanese person the correct pronunciation of Japanese words. Don't assume that the English pronunciation or annunciation is the correct usage. Be polite and learn their proper way of speaking the words in proper Japanese pronunciation.

      I'm learning Japanese myself and looking into akiya homes. I found a few around Oita and other areas around Kyushu. I was thinking it was pronounced oi-ta and appreciated the correction. Thank you.

      And Japanese speaking people usually poorly pronounce (not mispronounce) words in English using the Japanese pronunciation. But we don’t complain, because what is important is that effort is made. It is not deliberate disrespect to the culture. I would rather someone try to speak the language and get it wrong than not try at all.
