I made it with local vegetables: celery instead of lotus root, potatoes instead of taro, any white mushrooms available. However, it's sooo delicious :))) !!! My favourite stew ATM.
+JoshuaPhilgarlic I agree with you about lotus roots. Lotus roots in Japan may be safe to eat but lotus roots imported from China are gravely toxic because they are grown in the polluted soil. I'd never eat that.
Chef recommend using the cake flour for the white sauce :) Regular flour will thicken the sauce when you add the milk, making it difficult to achieve a smooth texture.
I love Chef so much! The thoughtful look she gives when she tastes the stew had me on edge. I was waiting for that nod, man. That, "OK, it is good!" Thank you guys, so much, for all of your videos! I hope there are more to come without too much strain on you :) -a fan since almost the beginning
I made this a couple of weeks ago and it was ABSOLUTELY delicious. I didn't use all of the vegetables in this clip, only what was available to me at an American grocery store (since I have no access to vegetables available at the Asian grocery store), but it still turn out great. Advice: if you're using thighs with bones, leave it in pot with the rest of the stew. Then cut it half (with the bone on one side) when the stew is almost done and leave it in the pot to cook in the heat!
I made this and it was absolutely delicious! I swapped out the onion for leek and added some nutmeg at the end and it was such a hit. Thanks for this recipe!
I've been married to the most amazing Japanese woman for almost 20 years, she makes white stew every few weeks absolutely one of my favourite dishes, awesome!
Interesting dish in that it uses so many different root veggies and mushrooms...plus it's really just enjoyable watching her cook...so organized and tidy and the dog patiently watching is an added bonus lol
How very unique & wonderful. It’s fantastic watching Chef 👩🍳 cook; she’s very good. AND it’s fun seeing a favorite of mine, a very pretty Dog🐩 ! I love ❤️ both the Chef’s excellent techniques & watching the Dog’s 🐶 interest too. Excellent videos! Thanks 🙏🏼
I made this today, with the vegetables I had on hand: potato, carrot, hakusai and corn. I also used parisian mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms (I only had 2 types) for the roux. It turned out great! Thanks! :)
Just made this for dinner and it was so good! Thank you Chef! I didn't have wine on hand to use, but it was still delicious. I'll be making this again!!!
Thank you, Chef! And the film crew ! for putting it all together. Thank you for sharing your lovely recipe. You have a beautiful pet too! Woof! Woof! From London! Dojo arigato ! M
This dish is simple and delicious! I tried it one time with my best friend and her family from japan! I eant that pepper grinder the chefs got! It's cool when it makes that sound when grinding! おいしです。
ive been subed to this channel for a year now, originally sought recipes for the xmas cakes. i look forward to the videos every week! keep up the good work all!
I love your cooking show so much, Cooking with Dog!! This stew looks so incredibly tasty and healthy. Such great recipes you have on this channel. God bless you all! :)
That looks so good, I want to eat it right now! MMMMMMMM So delicious! Chef needs to have her own cooking show on TV already! I wish I could eat this right out of the screen...
I made this the other night and wow amazing flavor! I used chicken stock instead of water and 1 entire bayleaf made my tongue and mouth tingle afterwards so I'd suggest maybe using just half.
I made it today^^ it´s very good! Since all my family is sick (nothing serious ^^" just little caughing and snezing) , we find a lot of confort in that receipe
I tried this last night for christmas dinner!!!! It was so good! However, i added only carrots, onions and potatoes.... the other vegetables are a little difficult to find here.. awesome taste and i served it with garlic toasts!
Yes you do! Or a farmer's market if you live in an agricultural area (like California valley). I live in southern Anatolia region of Turkey right now, and the produce is phenomenal! It makes a HUGE difference.
Thanks
Thank you so much for your support❣️😍❤️

Celeriac should work
Chef recommend using the cake flour for the white sauce :) Regular flour will thicken the sauce when you add the milk, making it difficult to achieve a smooth texture.
Potatos, cabbage, broccoli, green peas and corn also go great with this recipe :)
The mushrooms add a savory taste to the dish so we highly recommend using them :)

@Kayson Niko shut the fuck up
I made this and it was absolutely delicious! I swapped out the onion for leek and added some nutmeg at the end and it was such a hit. Thanks for this recipe!
The mushrooms will increase the savory taste of the stew. Please use chicken stock instead of the water if you leave out the mushrooms :)
She is such a great cook and so polite too ! I love this :)
I've been married to the most amazing Japanese woman for almost 20 years, she makes white stew every few weeks absolutely one of my favourite dishes, awesome!
Yes. Coconut milk can be used in stead of the regular milk :)
This was so calming and it's wonderful to see Francis again. Thank you.
The rolled wedges will help cook the lotus root fast and also absorb the flavor easily :)
Her chopping is so precise it's majestic!
Interesting dish in that it uses so many different root veggies and mushrooms...plus it's really just enjoyable watching her cook...so organized and tidy and the dog patiently watching is an added bonus lol
Made this tonight with shimeji and enoki mushrooms, and using taro, carrot, and rutabaga for the vegetables. Delicious!

Chef is adorable when she tastes the stew!
I made this today, with the vegetables I had on hand: potato, carrot, hakusai and corn. I also used parisian mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms (I only had 2 types) for the roux. It turned out great! Thanks! :)
Shiitake is not a good mushroom to use in this recipe.
I love Chef's face when she was checking the flavor. It made giggle a little.
oh god, I stumbled on this legendary channel! I kept hearing this channel from my friends but keep forgetting, today I finally get to see it!
Yes. You can use potatoes instead of the lotus root :)

If the pieces are large, you can enjoy the taste of the taro well. Smaller pieces are fine :)
Tiniest cutest turnip ever!
I have followed the recipe, without any meat. The taste was delicious. Thanks chef!
I also want to thank you for all your hard work. Thank you.

Francis and Chef have excellent taste in cookware! Staub makes wonderful cast iron.
Daikon radish can be substituted for the turnip :)
