Also, the voice actors who made the show famous, don't get any of the money. Loren Lester is a good friend for decades. Talked to him yesterday. He's living in NYC doing theater.
@@DarkspiderDavid91 He'd rather be doing tv/movies. He's like an older, much smarter brother to me. Kevin was really nice when he was alive. He signed some stuff for my father (veteran). Because my father was a fan of Tour Of Duty. It was Kevin's Vietnam show, in the 80's. Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" was the intro theme. Did you ever see that show?
The Joker with trench coat is from the expressions pack where you could swap heads and his jacket/coat - I don’t remember it being a build a figure. It had eight swappable heads including one with a hat and one of the heads featured on the later release (the one in your review). The expression on the version with the hat was the same on the original release (without hat) and the later re release packaged with Mad Love. The first releases had rally fragile brittle joints. There was also a Harley and Batman in this series released in 2018. The flat hands are episode specific joker robot gun hands from “Christmas with the Joker” and were also in the expressions pack.
stand is a copy from the original dc direct releases. the "cells" are such low resolution, awful prints Joker's coat was originally from the expressions set it is kinda cool to slowly get parts from the big set with different figures.
Yoy dont have the original Direct figure here, the original had 2 capes , both of which are on these later released figures, they just didn't come with the alternate.
Its really weird that the BTAS figures are 30 and exclusive to Target (which means im never going to see him ever 🙃) while the TNBA figures are $25 and widely available
The original Batman , without the cel shading release HAD TWO CAPES Also the new McFarlane figure is shinier and probably a better plastic, but I don’t like the sheen
Great review as always DSD! Gotta point out though as a fellow collector - Technically this is the second and the third releases of The New Batman Adventures Batman right there under McFarlane. The original release when DC Direct was still independent had the blue packaging and had BOTH CAPE TYPES - meaning you had the choice of having Bats with the cape on the shoulders and flowing straight down or open and it fluttering in the wind. There were more accessories and options to play with. The BTAS Joker with the jacket is essentially the stripped down, accessory lacking version from the Expressions Pack that had a LOT of heads and accessories. One of them alternate heads is what went to that grimacing Joker figure from the orange packaging. It’s good McFarlane Toys is offering these again for collectors who want to catch up or fill in holes they missed, but otherwise yes the paint and subtle changes made to sculpting are there too. It’s totally a preference thing and you vote with your wallet whether you wanna get these or hunt down the original DC Direct figures of the DCAU line - the ones that were made anyway at least.
The 2021 figures weren't made by McFarlane. McFarlane just distributed them. DC Direct went out of business, but these were too far down the pipeline so McFarlane became the distribution service for the remaining products. The figures hitting stores now are remold of that original line, with a build a figure that did not feature before with DC direct. I was at SDCC last year at the McFarlane toys panel, and Todd talked a out all of this.
the flat hands are from Christmas with the joker when robin goes into the observatory there are a bunch of robot jokers with those hands that have bullets coming out the fingers (those swappable hands came in the joker expressions pack originally, it was by dc direct ) also if u want to be accurate u should use it on the purple suit joker
I think they re-released Joker in his trench coat this time because they already put him out in his standard look in the Bullock 4pk from a couple years ago. If you’re ever wanting to offset some of the BAF cost, I’m always open to extra parts for a fair price. 👍
All animated figures should be cheaper. There are less details and textures to mimic the drawing styles. Many of them are also smaller. Otherwise, there should be more accessories or make them duo packs - a small and big figures like Killer Croc and Batgirl or Bane and Robin to balance out the amount of plastic used.
Great review and comparison - thank you! 😊 What dampens my enthusiasm for the new McFarlane figures is the shiny plastic 😔 It just feels/looks of inferior quality when compared to the original DC figures
The original joker was re-released as a 4 pack for $99.00 as a Walmart exclusive which you can still buy. (I bought mine on 6/16/24) That makes him just $25.00 bucks. Sadly no bang gun.
i've began collecting dc collectibles BTAS and TNBA, never thought i would buy Batman figures again. But oh lord what beauty. It's all i ever dreamed when watching BTAS as a kid.
The “new” mcfarlane figure is just the original buck that came in the blue (tnba) box in the original animated series dc collectibles line around 2015. So that figure legs where the first ones that those figures had. But the plastic is different in the mcfarlane, that what looks cheap to me. Also the original had those two capes (minus the cell shades)
2:21 that my friend is heresy. This version is what I grew up with (cause I found more New Batman adventures than I did BTAS online when I was in 6th grade)
I still have the og version the came out way before mcfarlane toys got the license for dc. That version came eith both capes and you could swap them around. In my opinion that is the best release
All four of these are from McFarlane. The original DC Direct had white packages and came with figure stands. The original Batman came with both capes and more accessories. Joker also came with more accessories.
I love McFarlane, but these figures are terrible. The target ones are actually pretty decent, but the wide release ones are just flat out terrible. I know they’re literally just repaints of older figures, but it shows. The old T joint hips and stuff weren’t the greatest at the time they originally came out, but they’re even worse by modern standards.
The seven inch animated style Batman could have been a good figure if McFarlane had bulked up the lower body. Thicker legs with some adjustments to the articulation would ha e worked wonders on those figures.🤷🏽♂️
I’m just happy we’re getting more DC animated in this scale and price. I would have been in full support of a complete overhaul of the figure line, but I was so bummed a few years ago when they discontinued the originals. I’m just happy I can still add new BAFS and a few select vehicles to my already existing collection. Never had a Gordon, and Phantasom comes out in wave 3. Hoping for success and longevity for the line since they seem to be cleaning up the cell shading. They have my support!
Also hoping we get more figures that were never done by DC Direct (either as BAFs or single figures) like Clock King, Red Claw and Rupert Thorne to name a few
@@Jag2045 more of the figure from the comic series like Red Hood, bat that laughs, and Deathshot that has been done near the end of the original line.I remember when they talking about what if figures near the end of the original DC Direct figures. I’d absolutely die for a court of owls in this line. But I agree. Clock king is a must for me and still waiting for a reissue of mad hatter.
Dc direct one isn't the first release. There is a batman btnas release by dc collectibles it is the first release and the first release are too brittle and doesn't have cel shade.
I liked the cartoon growing up…. I was young when the ‘89 movie came out but after seeing that I liked the Dark Knight over any other hero! I liked he was smart but still a vigilante who had an ok relationship with the police. They knew they needed Batman for the crazy villains doing crazy crimes 😂 I stopped watching the movies after the third one, it got so lame and not the same as the first two! But yeah the cartoon was great, I liked The Joker I think he reminds me of myself lol 😅
The cell shading on these figures are awful hopefully McFarlane carry on this line without it🤞🏻 so many figures dc collectables didn't do in this line lol
As someone who realizes how hit and miss McFarlane's DC stuff can really be.....am I the only one who finds it incredibly weird to see him take pre-existing sculpts from a previous company and try to pass them off as his own even though they don't fit with the rest of the line at all, rather than just making his own??? I realize they're not perfect but why doesn't he just build off of his Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern figures? Give us a Batman Beyond/JLU style Joker, sculpt it yourself. Don't be lazy and resort to what's essentially plagiarism.
I think it’s just you. Todd was given control of DC Direct, and can do what he wants with existing sculpts. Many are happy to see the line revived rather than having to start over. Rebuying a bunch of old figures to get a new one for BTAS is annoying though.
Less paint always looks cheaper. I’d take seizures over no paint any day. Nothing ruins a collection room more than cheap pumped glossy plastic with no paint.
I think the trench coat/hat Joker was his look in Mask of The Phantasm
@@BobbyCarillo It’s from the episode called “Joker’s Favor”
They are releasing a Phantasm figure as well

The original Batman , without the cel shading release HAD TWO CAPES

Jokermobile. Yay. Hopefully they will do an Adventures batmobile.
18:44 They're meant to look like gun barrels;there's a BTAS episode with a Joker dressed robot with gun fingers
Interesting. I have the DC direct one from like 2014. Curious how it compares to that
This is the way I look at it. You can now collect the older DC direct figures in box and open the new animated ones.
Are you serious about the stand? It's completely unusable.
Oh yeah I forgot about the whole WB ban against figures coming with guns until you brought it up
Great review and comparison - thank you! 😊 What dampens my enthusiasm for the new McFarlane figures is the shiny plastic 😔 It just feels/looks of inferior quality when compared to the original DC figures
I'll stick with the DC Direct and DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series figures I own. Don't like the cel shading on McFarlane Toys versions.
Same - only interested in the never before made figures like Condiment King and Lock-Up
