Nice work, Elena. Good to see more citizens appreciating and videoing the work that the city's public works and private snow removal contractors do every winter. We are the envy of many North American cities who come to a virtual standstill after a big storm because they don't have the equipment and aren't willing to spend the money to buy it, although the more-prevalent use of the front-end-loader-type blower attachments seen here, rather than the traditional, one-vehicle, "dedicated" types such as the vintage Sicard and Vohl vehicles, ought to encourage places like Boston and New York to consider improving their handling of high-snowfall weather.

I used to live in a town in northern Japan with the heaviest snowfall in Iwate prefecture and this was exactly how they cleared the roads, with these front loader mounted spinning blade shredders. Much like this, it was an impressively executed operation.

What impresses me in all these snow removal operations is that all these machines have not always existed.
Imagine what snow removal at the beginning of the century could represent as a challenge.
Horse-drawn plows and an "army" of men with shovels clearing the town for $0.20 an hour.
That translates to $21 an hour in Biden-Bucks (from the year 1900). Not to say is was not hard work -it WAS.

Here in Sweden when I was a kid the front loader with the snow blower always pushed the truck to get synk. These dudes didn't have to do that! :)

From whoever does the coordinating, the safety guy's who walk and all the driver's you all do a great job getting it done. How often is this done? Thanks for sharing ✌️
Hey Gary, Montrealer here. Whenever there's a snow storm - and we get 3 or 4 big ones per winter, with a dozen or so smaller ones - the roads are first plowed with the sole intent of pushing the snow to the sides of the road. (This means, if your car is parked in the street, you're going to need to dig it out!) Then, usually within 72 hours (less for major streets, and longer for residential streets) there's an operation that clears one side of the street, and then usually within 24 hours the other side of the street is cleared. Sometimes, snow storms happen *while* the streets are being cleared, which just compounds the pileup. Sometimes, snow crews are so over-worked, we just have to deal with the snow for a little longer :S

@@Ejexion I'm in Pennsylvania and they plow our car's in as well but I know the driver so I get my car's moved and he plows us out. It's a big help. We get about 16inches a year out of about maybe 9 storms. Last year we got caught up in a noreaster. Those things really dump the snow. Thanks for your reply I'll check your channel out ✌️

Wow, that's the way to do it, Britain gets half a inch and we come to a stand still, schools close and we all stay home.
They should have the little sidewalk plow out in front of the blowers, i realize they have a second pass but they could get a whole lot more on the first pass.
They do the best that they can, they are great actually and doing a wonderful job!

Meanwhile, in the rest of Canada we either never see a plow all winter or the plows just pile the snow up into giant mountains and leave the residents to deal with it. Gotta wonder how only Quebec can afford these types of setups 🤔
It's definitely interesting how different regions handle snow removal. Each place has its own unique challenges and resources.

It's a snow pit which connect to the main sewer pipes, called collectors. The snow falls dozens of feet below the ground in the main collectors, so that this snow is treated by the sewage treatment plant before reaching the river.
