Miles had the best mathematical timing . He knew exactly when to interact with the other soloist, to cut off their break, at the necessary time. Like a band leader.
Joey was a cute young boy, ambitious, unafraid in front of the great master, confident. I am so glad he was picked up Miles at that age. It must have been a super experience. Well done, Brother!

I use to hear Ricky on a regular basis with Chuck Brown in the DMV. There use to be a place in northern Virginia that Chuck performed. We would stay on the dance floor for almost a half an hour dancing to one song!

But one thing never changed for his whole career, and that was how he insisted on playing with the most talented and promising young musicians like Joey, Marcus Miller, etc. He had planned on working with Jimi and Michael Jackson, but it just didn't work out. If he had lasted a few more years, he might have worked with Tupac. Joey was a better musician for having worked with the master. And we're fortunate to have Joey's canon of fantastic and timeless albums to continue on after his death.
