    He is the best organist I have come across in the world of jazz! Really felt so sad when he left us! I wished he had stayed that slim and maybe he would have still been with us...

    I met him when he was 17 playing in Buffalo, NY. Best ever. He left us way to early. Sad!

    It is amazing how so many talented people kill themselves over drugs, alcohol, obesity, or anorectic lifestyles. I think his eating habits were the cause of his death at such a young age.😟

    This is when he was young but he already consumed what others older generation took them so many years of their life. With all do credit to older keyboard players Joey gave us the best of all. But sad he left this world so soon but his legacy livs forever. God bless his soul in heaven may be they need a great pipe organist out there. Joey will do that happily in heaven.

    I was fortunate enough to meet Joey a couple of times. Was and still is a big influence to me in playing the B-3. Thank you Joey for everything you gave us.

    I saw Joey in Toronto around the same time as this. Probably a year or 2 after. Would have been around 89/90. I was 16 or 17. He blew me away.

    Whoa whoa slow it down a touch excitement of Lower Manhattan getting to Joey he playing faster than the drummer! Jimmy Smith played like his soul oozing out his fingertips. So did Joey.

    He played with "Wookie" a lot in those early days & on the early albums. Paul Bollenback missing here on guitar. But what a Power Duo here!
    Yes, my opinion also, Joey was the best...

    Wow. Awesome talent but he was half the size. I don't know what his health issues were but that massive weight gain certainly led to his untimely death.

    A true prodigy and successor to the great organists of the baby boomer era, he's like the second coming of Groove Holmes, Jack McDuff and he literally knocked on the door to that elite club, pushed it open and walked in to introduce himself and announce his arrival as a high school kid and he's the true heir of all that greatness and outside of the best classical organists alive today, i don't know of anyone today who is on par with this virtuoso organist in the jazz idiome, please inform me if i missed someone who needed mention folks, thanks!

    Probably the only one who could outmatch my dad on the B3. Pop played with greats like Robbie Robertson, Ronnie Hawkins, has his own bands, and carried that Hammond to gigs, along with the Leslie cabinets. Crazy. Fell asleep to the sound of his band practices. Joey D sure could play those keys man. Damn.
