My first synth back in 1986. It is really logically laid out, super easy to program and can do some insanely powerful sawtooth polysynth style patches as well as much more delicate strings and pads. I came up with tons of ideas and recorded it all on cassette. The synth dissappeared from my life many years ago but now I´ve found a wonderfully accurate free VST plugin so I am going through my catalogue of stuff and re-recording the good ideas, copying the sound as close as I can and then buildning arrangementes around it, using mainly the Korg M1 and Dexed DX7 emulator to get this nice late 1980´s sound.
Wow dude can play, thanks so much for the demo. He is right there is just something about analog that rules from this era. So expressive, smooth and warm!
@@culturedslob yeah! nice one! I got one lately and I just finished up refurbishing it - I gave it the works, including the vecoven OS, which is recommended. It really has a very nice sound, and the keybed is expressive, if a little clacky audibly. Is your keybed clacky sounding? I read there were different models used. the vecoven mod really improves the midi, and the PWM mod sounds incredible. It's a great addition, it's not over the top with features like the Kiwi .
The one I opened up had a copper strip under the keybed, which of course wasn't a great material to use. I used fine sandpaper to remove the corrosion, but within a year the AT was dead again (I lived near the sea). I thought about cleaning it again, and glueing a thin sheet of carbon fibre to it, as CF conducts electricity but doesn't corrode.
5:06 This is very nice. Too many synth players route aftertouch to some kind of vibrato. Vibrato often makes a synth sound like it's going haywire and out of tune. Mr. musictrackjp doesn't do that either through aftertouch, the mod wheel, etc. very often and it's one of the reasons, in my opinion at least, that his demos are always so tastefully great.
Katsunori is one of those musicians who i feel i'm learning just by listening! Your videos inspire me so much as a musician! Thank you! Please review the Roland boutique new JX8P version!! Can't wait!! 😎
Ujiie-san isn't just a musician. He is a famous sound designer and synth programmer of the Yamaha in 80-90s ;) He is a BIG synth expert in Japan and yes - he is a true legend!
Juno-106 seems like a toy compared to the JX-8P. Although in a good way, the Juno-106 has a similar vibe to a Bontempi organ, which is a good charming thing. The JX-8P looks like a far more serious machine. Much higher-end. And of course, Eric Persing influence is strong with the JX-8P. The D-50 was quite a breakthrough though when it came out. The D-50 could eat the JX-8P alive.
and the d50 cannot eat the jx... not the same style of synth, the jx has more depth, when it comes to raw sounds, bass sounds, the jx eats the d50 at breakfast. I still love the d50
@@kicksNCY Well, maybe I used a wrong expression, about the "eating alive" thing. What I meant was, that if I had to choose between the JX-8P and D-50, I'd go for the D-50. The parameter list of the D-50 is certainly more extensive than that of the JX-8P, which means, greater variety of sounds can be obtained on the D-50, than on the JX-8P. But JX-8P certainly has its charm. Also, both synthesizers look great, and feel great, which is also important for any musical instrument. By the way, Roland makes very desirable instruments to this very day, the Jupiter-X and Juno-X being ultra desirable.
I want to love it and the poly brass sound is amazing, but this was the board used by my soul crushingly dry music theory teacher throughout all of high school and I can never forgive the JX-8P for it. Every time I see the front panel I immediately get stressed out.
And this is a Synth ! An Analogue Synth ! No samples anywhere inside this beauty.... The JX-8P has always been one of my favourites... I kept my one, instead of my Juno 106.

Those piano patches are impressively realistic for analog.

Great voicings! Incredible player!
