The PG8X VST compliments this synth so amazingly, especially as a programming tool and patch librarian. Randomize FTW! They sound different enough for me to still have my JX8P. P17 FOREVER!! Still one of my all-time favorite synths sounds. There are more powerful synths, there are better-sounding synths. But for some reason this one still seems to be up there as my all-time favorite. It just works and does the thing it does very well. And sounds so amazing
I really like the PG-8X VST too, and IMO it can sound very close to a real JX on some patches, however the texture is definitely audibly better on the JX-8P and also the patches don't translate properly all the time. Perhaps this is not even possible due to the many revisions to the JX-8P and different calibration between (real) units.
I used to know the co-inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Professor Herbert A. Deutsch. When I was 22 in ‘02, I remember hearing him say that it’s the player who makes any instrument, not just the instrument itself. It was relating to the Korg 05rw module which he had (and one of which I had for a few years), but it still made me think of the JX-8p (which my mentor owned and subsequently came to me). I also heard one of Herb’s peers, David Amram, playing the 6th piano preset on (what eventually became) my JX-8p and not caring that it was only 6-note polyphonic. He made it sing. The same can be said for how your playing skills make this synth sound incredible.
I bought one of these in mint condition at a local thrift store for $57.00, disounted down from $75 because it had been "in the store for quite awhile", it was evidently in it's case so long that the liner fabric was stuck to it. Sure do appreciate this outstanding demo video!
Sellers remorse. Sold a perfect mint 8p last year… Wish I still had it. I have a pet pie peeve and only like buying near mint vintage synths.. my jx 3p will do for now. I’ll fine another 8p soon.

Thank you so much!
My pleasure, @@cgmagik9837.
This is so very true. If you sat me in front of a Yamaha CS80 and recorded the results; no one but no one would want to own a CS80.
Says you, @@MisAnnThorpe? For all we know, you could be in the same league with all the people that have made that synthesizer world famous.
Amazing sound and video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Epic strings and brass on this synth. Love it.
Sounds amazing. Great playing.
Thanks!

Wow! Amazing deal. Thanks so much for watching
I'd like to find those kind of deals. I never see such things in thrift stores. Mostly old tvs and toasters. junk. Never synths.

I have this synth around me and will not sell it now. I haven't played for a long time.
the piano sounds!!!!
i could consider buying the JX8P for the fourth time but then it must be with the programmer and a refreshed version
Is miss mine. It was stolen on a gig somewhere. I never had the PG800 programmer, wich was a nice asset.❤
oh no :(
The programming stretches the limits of analog sound generation. FM doesn’t sound so essential now.
❤
хорош но уже не-то!!!!!
It's 80s synth presets, most 80s synth presets sound a little boring to our ears. But you can get more modern times out of this old synthesizer.
