he does speak English too, he has a couple of videos which are all in English language, but just try finding them because he has literally hundreds of videos, but don't ask me which ones they are ??? he is very, very good though I am also a fan of him :-) . Glen :-)
I have always loved keys but I'm a horrible player IMO. When I bought the Korg M1 when it first came out I was at a music store in Ohio goofing around on the same model and a shopper came up to me and asked me if I worked there! I said no and that I was just a customer like himself and he said that I was more informative and a better player than than the people that worked there. I will always remember that as highlight in my life. What a compliment that was. The M1 did all the work. ;-)
I have had the pleasure of working with the Korg M1 and some people say its dated and what not, a lot of other things as well but the honest truth is that its sounds like those that have made this synth a Classic Keyboard Workstation. Its up there with the Korg T3, Roland D-50, and personally my preference of synths are the Korg T3, Korg M1, Roland D-50, Roland JV&XP- 50, Yamaha DX-7 because of the great FM Synthesis! Its not always about making a hit with these newer synths from korg, yamaha and roland, its about making a Classic!
Preach it brother!!!! I know people that know absolutely nothing about all these amazing synths and say soft synths and computers are the only way to go. To them i say its only them thats losing out. The M1, DX7 and D50 defined the 80's era and paved the way To the things they now enjoy in making music.

I agree that the M1, DX7 & D50 are icons of the 80s, however I would suggest that they *helped* to define the 80s, along with the Prophet-5, OB-Xa, Jupiter-8, PPG Wave, Emulator II, Synclavier & several other synths. IMHO, the full range of sounds, styles, and influences heard in mainsteam pop/rock, alternative & progressive/'art rock' during the late 70s (the dawn of New Wave, etc.) and the 80s is quite astounding (not to mention the many ways jazz, classical & soundtrack writers & musicians inovated/created with analogue, digital & wavetable synths, as well as 8, 12 & 16-bit samplers..). 😎

Most of the sounds of the Korg M1 reminded me a lot of early to late-90s House music, Danny Pelfrey's compositions along with Frank Gari's news music packages and also, games that I've played a lot on consoles like the Super Nintendo (SNES), the original Sony PlayStation and also the Nintendo 64. The M1 is not outdated nowadays, but it has defined an era for sure. It was the epidemic of synths from the 1990s.
It's a great sounding, classic unit--one of the biggest sellers of all time. Best of all, Korg issued it as a computer soft synth, so it:s easy and cheap to pick one up and add it to your stack.
Not really, when you consider at the hardware level what the M1 actually is! It's just a CPU, a bunch of memory, and a highly specialised DMA controller, same as any early sample-based synth. Emulating such things is easy for even a 10 year old PC... the tricky part is making it sound "just like" the original. Maybe it's just my ears but I find modern samplers can sometimes be a little too perfect. I miss the grit! :D
Yeah, back in the day it's amazing that they did so much with so little memory and CPU to work with. If you want grit, get a bitcrusher plugin. You can have all of the 8-bit dirtiness that you want ;)
I understand what you mean. As far as the plug-in goes, though, for me personally, "close enough" is good enough for me, since I never had the honor of owning the original. I finished a project recently using only presets from that Korg library, and to my ear they basically capture the essence of that sound, even if they're not 100%.
Well, one of the main weapons I used back when I still played was a Roland S550 as part of the drum rig :D It's less about the bit depth of the samples, and much MUCH more about the filtering and DAC at the end of the chain.
Korg M1 was my first workstation. I got a new one in early 1989. Even today I admire its easy and simple approach to work flow. Just press REC button and - record :)

Sure, it's dated and it is really just a "rompler", but there is something about the sound which is very special. Back in the late 80's, with limited memory to work with, engineers and sound designers put a lot of love and care into the presets they created and it shows in instruments like the M1. I have a Kronos, which has thousands of presets, 9 synth engines and god knows what else. And I love it. But I also have an M1, which I also love. It's got character. Yes, the D50 is a better synthesiser, but the M1 is just as iconic. I also have a D50, by the way!
Minimalist design is what makes M1 hard to program, and this was problem with many digital synthesisers of this era, D-50, DX7. Roland's synths of analogue era, such as JX-8P at least had MPG-8 programmer as purchase option. But presets on M1, D50, DX7 are good enough and this made many songs, including soundtracks recognizable and classic of that era. Roland JD-800 was move in right direction.
Beautiful synth and playing! 😊 I can only imagine how mind-blowing these sounds were when the M1 debuted. It's somewhat disappointing that Korg didn't include some of the household presets from the M1/01 series in their later synths, namely: Universe, DawnOfTime, Free Flight, and First Snow. At least the 'House' piano and percussive organ were mainstays, hehe.

It's quite logical that sales representative are not capable to give a good demo. 1) salesman are no artists. Artists hate those kind of jobs 2) if they were knowledgeable enough to give you a demo they probably would not be working as salesmen.
Yes, it is very beautiful and elegant, I agree. Today's synths don't seem to have much thought put into their aesthetics, and a musical instrument is THREE things: looks, feel, as well as the sound. Today's manufacturers seem to forget about the first two factors... I used to have MINT Korg T3 (with LCD backlight gone though...), but I had too many keyboards and had to make a choice. So, I sold all my Korg instruments, and my main bread-and-butter is Yamaha DX-series, and Roland D-series.
I still use my M1 I bought when they first came out. Construction quality is just bloody amazing and contrary to the option of somebody down here I feel it has one of the most beautiful and elegant designs in synth history. If you´re willing to explore the web you will discover that the instrument is capable of much more than the presets - it is absolutely great for all sort of atmospheric pads and has a sound all of its own which works nicely side by side with modern VST plugins.
Hello and thanks for this M1 demo. I have the Korg N264 since the late 90's and also the Triton Extreme 76 since 2004. I use both boards on gigs because they work great together. I guess I could upgrade these boards, but the fact that one can edit sounds on these workstations make them timeless. I've been performing 2 or 3 days a week for a year and a half constantly, and these boards still stand up. I really have to give it to Korg for their exceptional keyboards. The n264 has some of the M1 sounds and one of the best organ sounds I've ever heard on a synth. Even the Triton's organ can't match that. But the Triton can sample the N264. So I'll just keep on playing both of these timeless boards and keep building my own sounds.Thanks again for the trip down memory lane. PS: The plastic side covers on the Triton Extreme got damaged so I smoothed the sides down and are building new ones with fiberglass. Can't seem to find the side covers and Korg don't make them anymore. Randell
Interestingly both Yamaha and Korg has a strong relationship, the circuitries and the mechanical parts on Korg synths are manufactured by Yamaha, Yamaha even bought Korg shorly before the release of the M1, though they both became independent in 1993 when the Korg's late founder Tsutomu Kato had sufficient funds to buy most of Yamaha's shares.
I totally agree with that. Nonetheless, the build quality of the krome is no where near their vintage keybaords, such as the M1, wavestation, X3 and even the N series keyboards which were introduced in the mid to late 90's. I have spent extensive time with their vintage keyboards and the kronos, and I know exactly what I am talking about.
Very nice sounds for a Rompler ahead of its time unfortunately i was never financially able to afford on at the struggling period in life I'm glad to say i own a Korg Triton Extreme w/Moss board & Korg KRONOS each Korg synth has a different personality
I think every New Age musician, including me, was using the PAN FLUTE for almost every track. It could be modified in many ways or mixed with other sounds like DREAMPAD. You'll find it on my Valley Of Joy CD on my channel.

No he doesn't. I've watched many of his videos, never a single critic, not even a benign one. And when he warns about vintage piano sounding lackluster it's not a critic either, it's a compliment to how good these piano sounded in their days. The explanation is easy to guess . He worked as a sound creator for Yamaha. This industry is close knit and he is an insider. These brand companies all respect each other, they can be bought by each other any year. I bet he knows personally and has met most of the CEO of each of these companies for the last twenty years and he is part of it. He often talks about his DNA being in those sounds. His attachement is complete : financial, work, passion and relations. Don't expect him to ever say the slightest critic, not ever. But after a few videos you learn to read his mind, it is very subtle when he does not like something he just moves on but negativity is never expressed. It's annoying for the viewer. He is in fact an internet salesman and i am quite sure he gets paid lavishly when he reviews new products. In his Waldorf Quantum review he says, "there are so many options". That's as big a critic you will ever hear from him, it means this synth has too many options making hard to access sounds.

i like the Korg m1, also i tried all the triton series, and also the M3... but i stop there. Not getting a kronos anymore, i bought a roland integra 7 instead... M3 + integra 7 is a beast....

does he ever find something he doesn't like about the synths he review ?
that's what I was wondering. I also think that he can make most synths sound good because he can actually play keys...unlike me and most young music producers of today.
He did, in this review, as he pointed out that the piano sounds, in the M1, are a bit lackluster when compared to what is being produced today but that will be the case for any synth as vintage as the M1 is.
No he doesn't. I've watched many of his videos, never a single critic, not even a benign one. And when he warns about vintage piano sounding lackluster it's not a critic either, it's a compliment to how good these piano sounded in their days. The explanation is easy to guess . He worked as a sound creator for Yamaha. This industry is close knit and he is an insider. These brand companies all respect each other, they can be bought by each other any year. I bet he knows personally and has met most of the CEO of each of these companies for the last twenty years and he is part of it. He often talks about his DNA being in those sounds. His attachement is complete : financial, work, passion and relations. Don't expect him to ever say the slightest critic, not ever. But after a few videos you learn to read his mind, it is very subtle when he does not like something he just moves on but negativity is never expressed. It's annoying for the viewer. He is in fact an internet salesman and i am quite sure he gets paid lavishly when he reviews new products. In his Waldorf Quantum review he says, "there are so many options". That's as big a critic you will ever hear from him, it means this synth has too many options making hard to access sounds.

yo le tengo este con las 23 tarjetas y el t1 con las tarjetas tambien hay sonidos que son muy buenos que hasta superan a algunos teclados de ahora y otros que son muy malos pero en genera, buen teclado para los años que tiene

i like the Korg m1, also i tried all the triton series, and also the M3... but i stop there. Not getting a kronos anymore, i bought a roland integra 7 instead... M3 + integra 7 is a beast....
