Your husband is fabulous. I love that you work as a team. I absolutely agree with your philosophy about the dents and dings in this piece. They tell a story of everything this piece has been through. I have a 1930’s Lane Cedar Chest that is a MESS! I’ve had it for probably 3 years. It’s currently in my hallway taking up space. I I was going to break it apart and toss it in the dumpster but after watching this, you’ve inspired me. I’m going to keep working on her. ❤️
I am glad you tested that first piece for lead. In restoring an historic Italianate Villa with some large dogs, I unfortunately did not understand what that meant when the dust from sanding and removing paint caused their illness. All dogs had the lead chelated from their systems but later other problems arose. You are so ready to protect yourself and new life that I am glad to see you again on this week's challenge. This was a real labor of love for an outstanding Mom. Thank you for your music too. The piece is worthy of all that labor.
I love your outlook on life, such words of wisdom, I wish there were more people like you in our world...it'd be a better place! Also...I didn't doubt for a second that you couldn't give that buffet new life, you're so talented.

This is my first time watching. I love that you saved it and honored it's past. It is definitely from the depression. There were pieces made with really fancy veneers and pieces that were painted wood grain, or had an applique put on. The painted ones were called borax.

You guys did a geat job bringing that back to life. One problem is I hate it!! I'm a dark wood stain person. But I can appreciate the amount of time and effort it took to turn it into a lovely piece of furniture. Really beautiful.
Wow, having those original wheels is amazing on a piece like this. Esp since it was outside. Go team, glad Mr DIY was able to tag in with the assist on this piece. You both brought this back from impending death (aka dumpster.) Love the final result!
Your patience with this was amazing. We often use lye here in Norway to whiten and harden the wood and not bleach. My mother in law used to polish her raw wood coffee table with milk. I think your work here was a very sympathetic restoration and it looks fantastic.
