@@Rob6. Yeah - like we all believe that will happen!! I bet you have 100 by Spring. I'm doing a premiere this Sat afternoon if you are free. They are normally good fun and full of chat.
Thanks for sharing your journey and participating in the challenge. Next time you have a pot that you know will be a difficult repot, without breaking the pot, try inserting a plastic pot inside, after putting dirt around it, and cover with sphagnum moss. It works well with pots that curve in , too. Azalea is a good choice for the time of year!
Hi Brenda, Full disclosure - my azalea is sulking badly and is now in the greenhouse ICU with a load of Ficus to help promote humidity. They are still green beneath so I am quietly confident of a return to health.
I can't believe I never saw this before, I had a great laugh Xavier, thanks for all your hard work putting these together, I notice and appreciate all your little jokes
Cheers, though there is a lot of work to do on it in the spring - it is just about hanging together after ebing cooked in summer and frozen recently. Cheers Xav
I love your creation and I think you succeeded in the challenge the best I’ve seen so far. I called at my local garden centre this morning and just for fun looked at the pots and shrubs as if I was doing the challenge. A 3 litre bag of bonsai potting mix £5. A bonsai pot (terracotta or mass produced glazed) under £10. And a good choice of acers at £16.99. So £32 in all. In the end I did buy an acer I liked so I’ll have a go at my own challenge.
Ohw Boy.. No more excuses. Luckily... I have worked & taped the whole thing already! Lets see what I have done? Next week saturday I hope to premiere it!
great choice to pick the tree for bonsai....great for $50 Bonsai Challenge...best regards from Indonesia....let us make it More Viral...i am follow too..let us all..in One Big Circle Of Bonsai Friendships.

Well done Xav. This challenge came at just the wrong time for me with my op. but I'll try and get on with it as soon as I can - maybe have to wait 'till next year now. At least I'll get to see how everyone's creations are progressing. 👍👍
Very Interesting composition. After watching several of these now I think this challenge would have had a much higher success rate if performed in spring. It would be interesting to know how many actually survived this process in the middle of the summer. Good luck. Thanks, keep growing
Totally agree the challenge gets harder as we progress further into summer. That was why i gambled on azalea. It was a lot of fun and who knoes?? Cheers Matt
Just read Stefaan’s comment, he’s not wrong. Don’t wanna loose you, play your cards right (no politics either 🤭🤐) you’ll go stellar 💫🌟 but would you be d same Xavier?! 🤷🏼♀️✌️
Challenging question...Bonsai or Penjing? Nice composition nevertheless. Love the idea of a follow-up in spring. Should make this an annual call for action.
Clever or mental? Either way I like you, heavy handed,clipper-happy n politically incorrect, if you don’t mind my saying so?! Heaven forfend that I hurt your feelings. God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦🌻✌️
Thanks Fred...it is looking a little more sun wearied right now so I have it recovering in the greenhouse with my ficus. Fingers crossed for the spring :)
Watch out with copyright infringement. The radio music can make your video be banned and you'll get a warning. Don't know if you took care of that but I just wanted to mention as I don't want your channel to disappear. Nice vid.
Sounds like you have found the right way to do things. i have never tried to make my own pots but it is definitely something I want to do soon. Cheers.
Good morning Xavier, nothing to do with the challenge, tho that’l be interesting, it’s about moss. I’ve just found your channel n I’m randomly flicking through your vids so can’t remember when you bemoaned the moss destruction being wrought in your garden. I’ve had great success with the ‘moss paste’ solution (see Back Garden Bonsai) it’s slower than planting moss pieces but it stays put when it germinates! Genius!! God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦🌻✌️
Thanks for that bit of advice - I will have a look. The issue with the moss is not it growing it is the pesky birds that insist on digging it up no matter how well I attach it. I've used staples and group protection. Nothing works and when I do use netting the bigger birds cause even more damage trying to get through it. This morning another tree lost moss that had been growing for nearly 2 years - soul destroying :(
P.S I’m thoroughly enjoying your channel n appreciate all the work you put into it, thanku n more power to your elbow (n anything else that needs it!) I’ve subscribed of course. Greetings from drizzley Devon 👋🏻
2yrs growth, hmm, the problems I’ve had was establishing moss so paste has been the answer. Sacrificial moss? Bird playground?! I can almost hear your little man warning you against this mad woman! 🙅🏻♂️
@@gayefanner731 It's great to hear someone is actually enjoying this. Seriously I do appreciate the supportive comments because I really enjoy making fun of myself whilst hacking trees to death. :)
Cheers - it is not looking quite so positive at the moment but I think I have one good azalea hanging on in the composition. Spring will be about rebuilding and sustaining it for the future.
I went to Downtown again yesterday and bought another bargain basement special of Dwarf Azaleas. i'm doig a short video on that soon. I will literally cut the tops off and leave to next spring.
Again, throughly enjoyed watching that 🪴 I’m impressed with your creativity, that’s the great thing about this challenge, you get to see how each of us makes our choices and what inspired such creations 💚 I can’t help but imagine how many of us would have walked past the vase or simply written it off as a possibility. Not you though, you see a vision and execute it 💪🏼✨ Although I haven’t been nominated yet 😆

Thank you...i hope the other vids dont waste too much of your time! Do you have many bonsai?
