XAV, love this format when you update the same trees over a few months to show the progress but also the decisions you make along the way. Great video.
Side effect off the marathon pace is acquiring more trees to work on... I won't say a number for my trees, but I know I still have a lot less than you! 😂
Read this and felt a sting in my heart😂. I'm still quite a newbie (3 years next spring). So far my main task has been collecting trees and keeping them alive, some minor primary structure styling and root work on yamadoris. It's been slow enough that I have just kept hoarding more and more. Now I've come to realise next spring over half of them need to be repotted. Let's hope we'll have some nice weather for outdoor activities next spring!😅
Thanks so much for the update Xavier. I had forgotten all about your group plantings. Nice little arrangements - should develop wonderfully next year. Really like your linden. Reminded me how much work we do for those precious back buds. I have struggled with getting a second flush of growth on linden. Mostly just end up with scorched leaves after the tips are removed. However, when I look at the bare trees, they are indeed loaded with buds exactly where I need them.
They have been ignored this first year so it was encouraging when I had a chance to look and see just how strongly rooted they appeared to be now. I think it will take at least 3 years to get any sort of decent visible root spread above the plate. These are the projects that i really enjoy the most. There is a point a tree suddenly reaches when you smile and realise it is starting to develop into something you planned :)
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat exactly. Especially maples are good for that. They develop fast, grow well, you can apply pretty much everything speaking about methods 👍
Nice job on the Fuji time-line. I really think it's informative to focus on a tree, and watch its development. My grandmother had several cherry trees that made that same kind of clear hard plastic-like sap when it dried. The cherry trees break apart here, not very long lives in general. No sure if that's true of a lot of cherry varieties or not?
Why did you put the maples so far apart on the plate if you want them to fuse? Isn't the "traditional" technique to even bind them together for faster fusing?
I think I mentioned that I catually want them slightly seperated rather than trunks fused at the base. I have seen a few examples of a circle of trees that have been growing together and have a large plate root system between them. I have also done the traditional binding together approach where I am trying to create multiple trunks etc
Hi Xav the privet, you have been looking at there is an argument for getting rid of the two thicker dead trunks sticking up or reducing drasticaly, they don't appear to do the tree any favors, I tell what my friend you won't be out talking about trees at the moment, the rain and wind has been horrendous where we are in Nottingham, everything is saturated, all mytrees are on the ground so as not to get blown off the stands. It was great to see your trees over time doing well, I also have put a few trees into the greenhouse, I spoke to Harry Harrington about it, his comment was any tree that needs to go into a greenhouse has no room in my garden, they all stay out no matter what the weather throws at them, that growth you removed from the cherry looks the sort of resin you get from trees like pines. I think a little bit of sensible protection is the right way to go.Xav. stay warm my friend.
I don't know how much growth to expect from a Fuji cherry. If it is Kojo No Mai then it is a slow growing variety. Height around 2 m in 20 years is quoted by many growers.
Plastic plate flair😂😂😂 love that but 4:30 universal sign for tree in a hole🤔🤔🤔🤔😂😂😂😂. Too funny. I needed a laugh got sick this week alteady. Tell u one thing dont ever buy the dayquil with honey tastes and smells like sweaty socks 🤮. That thing that came out of the cherry tree was weird . Maybe some frozen sap. I had some really weird thing grow on my chinese elm and looked like teardrops all formed in a row. Ill send u a pic. No idea what it was
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Sent a pic of an unnatural who knos what on a chinese elm. Let me kno if u have any clue to what this thing is. I tried looking it up and cant find anything. Just saw u wrote back. Almonds🤣🤣🤣🤣. They did burst with liquid from what i remember. Weird stuff

Cheers Steve...the frustrating part is having all this footage and having to wait a year to show the progress :)

The best bit is when a tree suddenly picks up the pace and you start to see a bonsai within it :)

A very useful, practical teaching video for this newbie. Linden and Fuji Cherry added to the Must Have list. Thank you Xavier 😊
You really must find the time to visit next year so i can introduce you to more 'must have' species :)
Nice pot in that first tree. 👍
Cheers Jason
Enjoy watching today Xavier 😊
Thanks Christophe
Thx for this nice Updates! Cool with the Plastic for the group. I will try this . 👌 thx for this cool tip 👍 cheers 🍻
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get a realistic combined root base
@ oh yes very interesting !
Never get tired of your most informative videos Xavier!
Thnak you so much for that - makes it all worthwhile then :)
Nice to see you r
Productive trees keep up the good work my friend
I think I am finally reaching the end of the season :)
Thanks Xav, your personality is infective 😂. Keep it real mate and I look forward to all videos you share 👍
It can be tough battling with what people really like BUT I find it much easier just being me. You have a nice collection of trees to work on I saw :)
Thanks for sharing the progress of some of your projects 👍
So many different trees remain unseen - hopefully more in 2025
Those have beautifully developed. 🤩 Thanks for update. 🙏❤️ Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Thanks Martina - just busy getting the indoor 'studio' sorted out for a few cheeky videos in January

So true Sue :)
Great catch up with your projects, they are all looking really good 👍
Thanks mark - often these projects have very slow years and then they just sky rocket :)
Great video Xav. I love that pot just before the private. I especially like the progression of the trees shown.
Was that the large round one with the Linden in it?
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat YES
Looking forward to your privet carving. I know where I would carve so will be interesting to see your vision and final product. Not final but ongoing.
No hints for me then Sharon :)
love the pot on your small leaf lime mate
It was a nice discovery when I was at Savin Nurseries a few years back. I think I paid £10 for it :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat is that all. geez i paid more than that for a plastic training pot mate lol
@@BenshobbyStuff I bought a lot of pots from there. he still does great trade price deals on everything

Great video Xavier brilliant 👊👊👊
Cheers Andy...just a few more then time for my winter break :)
Nice projects in the pipeline, Xavier. Fingers crossed for the Ebihara root projects. I'm curious to see results next year.

Interesting to hear that the sap is defintiely a cherry thing. I shall wait and see how long mine live :)

My bbq has been blown half way down the garden but thankfully all the trees are ion place...and the greenhouse panels too :)

Some interesting projects for 2025 Xavier looking forward to seeing the developments could you do update on some of Tony’s trees please 🫶
I shall do that for a Christmas Special just for you Paul :)
@ Thank you Xavier appreciate your kindness I still watch Tony’s videos sadly missed 🫶
