Hi Xavier, thanks for update on your Chinese elms. 🤩Mine is doing great although there is still structural improvement necessary. Cuttings - I still work on those 😅😘 Dir und deiner Familie eine besinnliche Adventszeit 🙏🕯️😊🌲 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
An elm without roots! Reminds me of the chicken that lived years without a head. (Actually the top of his head. Unlike the elm, no chance of growing it back) Good info as usual Xavier!
Got a couple of little elms after your last elm video. I'm in zone 7 so keeping them in my unheated garage with citrus trees. They haven't dropped their leaves yet, but even most of my outdoor trees have had green leaves until a few nights under 20 F this past weekend. When will it be time to do some pruning?
Tell you what Xav can you push the energy to me please, not got any. You have prooved that Chinese elms will push out new growth without very few roots, message is Don't give up, what looks dead may not be, pity about the one that hasn't made it, maybe if you had put it into the ground or a pond basket earlier. Some good tips there my friend. Free trees can't be bad. Keep warm mate.
Definitely feeling the lethargy now Joe! It is cold and miserable and I am ready to hibernate from bonsai. Hopwever, I did give in and decided to do some late autumnal wiring on my big Silver Birch. It should be okay through the winter as I have wired it twice before this time of the year. I really need to fertilise it heavily next year...you will see on Saturday :)
I can manage about 40 minutes outside before my fingers turn the colours yours do! I did some late wiring on my big Silver Birch yesterday and I was convinced on eof my hands had fallen off :)
Nice looking pot....
That is one of my oldest pots from back in 2002. I think the Korean Hornbean was originally the owner of it :)

Thank you for all your support Phillip
Good stuff, we always face these situations but can’t just stop experimenting.
That's what keeps this hobby so interesting - we all have different ideas and the results can be amazing sometimes.

Love the analogy
Shame about the trees but this is part of bonsai and plants in general... great video Xavier
We just keep on trying again and accepting that sometimes '**** happens' :)

I let mine go now until spring - they enjoy the rest :)

A great success rate on the cuttings. Shame that lovely shaped elm did not doing too good.
Unfortunately these things happen

cuttings of elm!!?
Who knew :)
On the bright side of losing trees in death or disease is that you get to get new ones.
It is great now that a lot of my cuttings are at the age where they can be styled and developed as decent bonsai
Glad you got to the root of the problem 😂
That wins the dad joke award...I'm just jealous I didn't think of it myself :)
