I don’t have a cave, or wood in my aquarium and I spotted a baby bristle nose tonight ❤

I had no problem getting eggs and babies, but then I wasn't trying. It was my guppy tank. Ended up giving my two adults away (one albino the other regular) to people eager to have adults. Now got to work on getting the 75+ babies out of my guppy tank from the two batches they had.

    Greetings from UK!🇬🇧😎
Thank you so much for this video as it has answered a few of the many questions that I have in my head. 😉
Whilst I didn’t necessarily get my Plecco’s for breeding purposes, I want to make sure that I am giving them the best care that I possibly can. They live with a couple of common goldfish, 2 black Moors and I have had my 2 Plecco’s for just over 18 months.
Would it be okay to put some kind of driftwood or other wood in their tank bearing in mind my goldfish can be quite heavy-handed when it comes to plant to matter? I struggle to keep Oxygen plants in the tank without them trying to destroy it and have to replant them on a daily basis. I am very lucky that the aquarium is a very peaceful and I learnt a lot from my dad who was a master at goldfish community aquariums way before we had all of the technology (in terms of filtration etc...) and medications that we do today but although my Plecco’s seem to be thriving, I just want to be sure that I am getting it right.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I live in a very hard water area so my ‘GH’ is at a consistent reading of 180, which I would love to find a way of being able to bring that down a bit. I do test the water regularly and my ‘PH’ reads at a steady 7.2 as I do 50% water changes every 7/8 days and my No2/No3 are good. 😉

Yea sounds awesome! Definitely get some wood in there for their health. Also feed a varied diet of commercial (algae wafers) and vegetables like zucchini and green beans! Good luck and thanks for watching my stuff

How did I get my female Bristlenose to lay eggs? I put a male in her tank, 1 week later, close to 100 wrigglers in the back of the cave.

I have been desperately googling, and trying to figure out why my 2 albinos won't lay eggs. They're both well over 1 year and a little over 4 inches. Ph is about 7.2 and temp is 78. You mentioned mimicking the rainy season, and I've tried colder water, but do you think lowering the water level, to increase waterfall flow, from the filter, would help?
Also, there's tons of caves and cholla wood.. the only difference I see, is actual driftwood in YOUR tank. Do you think this makes a difference over cholla wood?
NOTE: They eat Repashy, bloodworms and algae tabs, but are in a community tank... with mollies and angels... Do you think I'll ultimately have to separate them, to get them to breed properly?
Hoping you have some ideas... Any advice would be awesome! Love the video! 😁👍♥️

Hey! Setup sounds great. I'd make sure that one is a male and one is a female first. The lowering water idea is definitely worth a shot, but 100% get some real driftwood if nothing else works after that.
It definitely shouldn't matter if they are in a community aquarium.
Also try feeding zucchini and canned green beans as much as you can.
Good luck! Let me know how it all goes or if there are any other questions. Thank you for watching my videos.

from my experience, bristlenose ancistrus are so common and often captive bred, which makes that you don't need to mimmic the rainy season meaning pH changes, waterlevel changes or flowchanges. A good diet and some big waterchanges now and then (independent of the time of the year, is my experience), makes my super red ancistrus breed a lot, so completely indepedent of the natural raincycle in their natural environment (f.e. other fish only breed once a year). That's not the case with ancistrus. You do need wood and caves. In fact i know a lot of people whose bristlenoses breed like rabbits. I recommend a group of some males and females (more females) and a lot of hiding places. That and some patient, letting them do their thing without too much interventions in your tank, will surely give you succes without any effort. Condition them with a lot of good food and clean water, and when you see one or some females or fat, then do a big waterchange.

@@strangepetscmty They did finally breed, recently as a matter of fact, but the male kicked the eggs out of the cave... and i didn't have a tumbler, and they fungused over in the breeder box with a bubbler... I think, either the eggs were infertile to begin with, or now that they're even bigger, I may have to get larger caves for them to be successful... but I'm one step closer... thanks for asking! Any tips on what kinda caves to buy? I use the large watering spikes, but the male's body barely fits now... lol

Mine only spawn once and never had a follow up spawn.
It's been 6 months since the female laid eggs.
Tank is 4x3 by 2.5 feet
It has a lot of different caves, rocks, driftwoods and pots. Ph is 7-8.0 nitrate 5ppm, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 their tank mate is only cherry shrimps. I do water change every week or two no bright light with two sponge filter, water pump, overhead sump and wave maker. Their diet is zucchini, cucumber, pumpkin and I sometimes add bloodworms and carnivore pellets.
1 male albino bristlenose and 3 female long fin albino bristlenose. God dang I've been waiting for them to spawn since no one hatches from the first batch

On a website there is just one type of bushy nose Plecos so if you order two will there be a male or female, on the website you can’t pick what gender they are.

For the plecos don’t you need more male then female because the males guard the egg. If the male guards the eggs 🥚 how does he recover to mate again. What I mean by that, does he get enough nutrient to stay in the cave or when does he come out to eat. Do males leave their cave to eat or do they stay in the cave until the babies are born?

    • @KeepingFishSimple

KeepingFishSimple, I see now. For some reason I haven’t seen bristle nose plecos where I live. Only common and some other expensive ones. What do you think, should I get bristle nose plecos or reticulated hill stream loaches. I only have one, should I get more or do you recommend plecos?

    • @KeepingFishSimple

Get Bristlenose plecos, but not common 👍 the Hill stream loaches are cool but can never go wrong with Bristlenose

One of my platies won't come to the top of the water she stays at the rocks and i didnt think she was eating so i put her in a breed net to feed her alone cuz i didnt think she was eating. I dont think she's eating still and stays at the bottom so i put a male guppy with her cuz I thought maybe she was lonely and could not make friends with the others or got bullied by them and even being by herself and a friend she's not changed idk what else to do i need help🙏
