It took Ghost of Tsushima's success for Ubisoft to finally see the value of an Ac game set in Japan, already being requested by the fans for years.
it's requested ever since ac2. Once people realized that the game's conflict is worldwide, the next obvious step is Japan.
They've got financial backup from Tencent now, so they're finally going all-in in Japan.😉

Not really since majority of the fanbase seem to hate the RPG format of the newer games. AC Odyssey got me back into the franchise after AC Unity so I'm hyped that they are the ones developing this AC game.

Depend on which aspect of style you're talking about. Those two games aim at doing different things. Code RED just need to remember that it's Assassin's Creed and that's all it ever needs, an Assassin's Creed: Japan.

In Assassins Creed Black Flag, so way back to the times of Xbox 360, there were files in the Abstergo building talking about the future games Ubisoft would release for the Assassins Creed.
It mentioned egypt, vinkings, and of course, japan.

There is another thing that this game needs to be done better than the previous games besides historical accuracies, gameplays, plots, lores, voice actings, developments, authenticities, and graphics, and that is the sense of humour.
UPDATE: Insider confirmed, the male samurai character is indeed the historical Yasuke and the female shinobi/ninja is named Naoe Fujibayashi.

There's not many games to compare this to, but back in PS2 days* there was a game called Shinobido from the makers of Tenchu, and damn I've been wanting to play something like it again for a long long time.

Sekiro does feel like the old school Tenchu, but with the Souls type bosses, and enemies respawning when you use save/heal spots.

Codename Red is the focus on stealth gameplay. Seemingly, Quebec has decided to take a Splinter Cell-esque or Hitman approach to the title, with things like hiding bodies, hiding in tall grass, extinguishing lights so your shadows are not spotted etc. all being current features.
