What does it actually say from the novels cuz I don't remember ever going to church in the 20 year storyline but I do remember robbing that one church Monterigioni
Maybe, but when he defeated Robert of Sable, he said "this has nothing to do with him, I'm just the better fighter" to King Richard, who replied "you may not believe in him, but he believed in you" to no objection, which indicates he is an atheist. Again, this is just assumption, he could be an agnostic, but more likely to be atheist
@@nomad1789 This doesn‘t mean exactly Altair was Atheist as none of both citations are proves. What King Richard would have meant was that Christ believed in Altair, yet muslims don‘t believe in Jesus being god
@@TovarischMakarov nah, God is one. And they don't say Jesus or Yahweh or Allah or whatever name of God they would, so God is the same. Moreover, his only explanation is "I'm just the better fighter", not "it's my God, not yours", prove that he's believing only himself. Beside, Altair burning Al Mualim's corpse shows how he doesn't believe in Islam whatsoever (even tho he really means to prevent Al Mualim's return). If any, that shall be either atheist or agnostic (more likely the former)
@@nomad1789 Altair not believing it was God's work but a matter of skill doesn't mean anything besides that. You remember Pulp Fiction? Jules was declaring that it was a miracle, Vega was skeptical about that one event... it doesn't mean he's an atheist or agnostic. Just that he doesn't believe in specific case of divine intervention... However, Altair, most likely IS atheistic in the end, as during Assassin's Creed 2 you collect codex pages and you see him being dismissive of all religions and being really scared of death, after which he doesn't believe in any continuation. He is also not shown being religious at any point, ESPECIALLY compared to very Catholic Ezio, delivering a requiem in Latin for his victims. I can also point that for all his desire for knowledge, Altair didn't get it all until he died. Only Ezio gets that there's something more beyond what we see in Revelations, as he recognizes the player existing, and accepts our inability to know things beyond our understanding. It was very creepy and I loved it. I need to finish relaying AC2 and read the entirety of Altair's breakdown. Needs all codex pages but I stopped playing a year ago, coulnd't stand Venice fireworks counting last hours until 4:45, and hearing real explosions outside my window. Anyway, remember the first game was released during Iraq war so a practicing Muslim would be risky for a playable character, I don't believe outside of France they would even dare to make a setting with Saracens as the good guys, though Crusaders are shown respectfully too, in Richard's case. They kept Altair's religion vague () to avoid any possible backlash from either side. AC2 onwards are braver games, as in, they're more open about characters convictions. I think Altair goes from Muslim (how he was brought up) to agnostic (events of AC1) to atheist (his later years by codex). Now Bayek is another thing entirely, deeply religious pagan-polytheist, to the point he justifies hate crimes against Atenian heretics that didn't worship multiple gods.
@@KasumiRINA I guess, can't really shows considering this game's catchphrase "nothing is true, everything is permitted" would goes along with this statement. We can't be sure of what was really true there, but we can just assume and every assumption is permitted

The idea of Ezio being Italien doesnt really make sense when you realise that the nation of Italy wasnt a thing until the 1800s. Ezio would certainly never refer to himself as an Italien but instead he would call himself “Tuscan” because he was born in Florence. Isu's existence doesn't negate the existence of a God at all, it just means there was another species we weren't aware of, but they definetely were made by somebody else. I'm not sure, but being religious isn't the same as having a religion by name. Some of the assassin might be atheist in practice, but not by association.
Problem is, by association as if you say formality (like for census) doesn't really exist back there, and people aren't concerning about it (aside from crusades, which none of them really did even tho Altair did intervene in the Third Crusades and Ezio with the papacy). So, it's up for the people whether to believe it or not, and I say none of these assassins even have citizenship, considering they're all consisted of killing machine (Altair), dethroned prince (Ezio), tribesmen whose tribe isn't even recognized (Connor), criminal (Edward, Evie, Jacob), slave (Adewale) and orphan (Arno), all of whom are deemed outcasts in addition to their affiliation with the assassins, which makes me doubt they were even given citizenship, if ever existed. Therefore, religious affiliation didn't really matter aside from what they believe in

Biak might not actually be the most religious. At the beginning hell ya, the dude was prity much a wondering warrior monk as a job. But as later events in his life shows he could instantly pick up on things being real or not and didn’t actually have that much faith in the gods if anything more then an opreciation of the faith/practices. Kassandra, was religious person, until she met her real father and later incidents. Since she is the longest lived person, due to that she knew the reality and lot (since isu to 21st century). In another way she is like super-library of assassin's creed world.
She could've been an agnostic, since she refuses to favor anything (which is agnostic way, of neither believing nor disbelieving over something). She may start an on-and-off in believing over one absolute power, until eventually deciding to say "I don't know" upon her beliefs, and died being herself only (no religious affiliation whatsoever). The creed isn’t actually restrictive about those topics, the ideology itself dictates that one should follow their own path and make their own conclusions, having faith in a certain religion is permitted as long as the person follows the creed, Altaïr himself defended Islam and Christianity.
Descendents of african slaves used to keep practicing their ancient religion under the disguise of catholicism, probably Aveline and Ade were one of em. Ade's name is a yoruba name btw, and yorubas had their own religion that it's practiced today in caribbean countries, even if sometimes disguised as catholicism, like they did with "santeria". So in paper she would be very well "catholic"
The concept on "nationality" is pretty new. To say that Ezio was italian because he was born in Italy is wrong: he did not recognise himself as such and his culture was not "italian". He was Florentine, from the Serenissima Repubblica di Firenze, that's it. Nationality is a concept born more or less around the second half of the 17th century and fully developed around the first half of the 19th century.
@@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl Not historically correct. Even though Machiavelli considered the idea of a united Italy, it was mostly a thought Machiavelli himself never explored in its entirety. The nationalist movements in the 19th were something different, something in which even the masses were involved. A nobleman in 1500 talking abstractly about unification cannot bring to the conclusion that nationalism was a thing even before the 19th century. There was no concept of nation, at least not as we intend it today. A greek from Sparta might have considered himself as part of the greek heritage, but he had no loyalty towards "Greece": there was no Greece at the time. He lived in Sparta and was a spartan, therefore his loyalty was towards Sparta alone. There were times where Greek cities fought together against common enemies (like Persia), but it was no nationalism that pushed the soldiers foward, It was mostly necessity and a sentiment of "brotherhood" between greek cities.
@@simpleconcept3698 there was literally a Greek/Hellenic identity and they had special rights different from non-Greeks all over ancient Greece and out of it. Some cavalry units were Persian culturally, and you had to identify as a Persian to serve there. They had concept of nationality all right, it wasn't tied to STATE though. And later, in Italy, come on, they are speaking Italian language, of course they had a concept of Italy being a thing, even if it was multiple states smh. By your logic Czech nation wouldn't be a thing until 1991 and Syrians won't exist despite, you know, being one of most ancient people still around. Nations did not always equal countries.
Fun fact: Aveline is a French descendent but her nationality is American. Her father was a French settler in New Orleans and her mother was a african slave having a French name. And,Altair was born to a muslim father(who was also an assassin) and a Christian mother ,so he know about both.
I am actually so proud altair is syrian because i am too, and i already know what im going to name my 2 children, its going to be altair and ezio, and I am going to teach them brotherhood
Actually Layla Hassan is American. But she is from an Egyptian-American family having roots in Egypt but currently living in the United States. So I would not say that her nationality is Egyptian, because she was in fact born and raised in the United States.
And even then, calling her an Egyptian-American would be more accurate if she was first born and raised in Egypt and then moved to the US. She's just overall an American with Egyptian heritage.
That would mean that Ezio, Connor, Edward etc were Muslims because they were assassins. The templars and assassin's ingame have been secularized and don't share the religious nature of their real world counterparts.
I really think it’s not right to give them nationalities based on modern nations. It’s true that their birth places and where they lived fall within the geographical borders of the modern world, but those borders didn’t exist back then, neither did most of the countries mentioned here
Basim is muslim in mirage. But after he merged with Loki, which is norse pagan, I thinks it is complicated to say what is his current belief today in modern world. Is he became atheist for real?
I don’t think an Assassin being religious makes much sense. Even without the whole Isu thing pretty much proving that all gods are.. let’s say “overrated”, the Creed specifically encourages its followers to constantly put their worldview and their belief system into question. To always be as open minded as possible, to never assume that the truth is a given absolute. This doesn’t mix very well with the kind of devotion required by religion. The Creed’s essential meaning is literally “Beware everyone who asks you to believe without question, and remember you’ll always be responsible for what you choose to do.”
@@dragonhale2026 Ubisoft butchered the translation of the creed the actual translation is Nothing is an absolute reality, everything is possible in arabic it has a deeper meaning and many interpretation none of them means nothing is true all is permitted the correct translation makes more sense
Isn't it the other way around? How can you be open-minded about things if you're an atheist who explicitly denies anything supernatural existing in the first place? For example, atheists believe pagan gods like Juno or Jupiter didn't exist... WE TALK TO THEM IN GAMES. We also visit Duat and Field of Reeds, Egyptian afterlife. There's so much supernatual stuff happening that I don't understand how writers can justify characters being atheists at any point.

Did I miss a huge part of the game...? ^^' I mean it probably depends on how u define the word "god", but as I recall it, the Isu were the ones who literally created humanity. beside their other abilities, a lot of them were actually seen as gods by humans (like those from Greek/Norse/etc. mythology). that probably due to the fact that humanity was just not fully able to comprehend the entire nature of the Isu and the extent of their powers. but to me it's hairsplitting, whether u call Isu "gods" or just an "advanced species" - their powers exceed human's understanding and own abilities and can therefore be seen as at least godlike.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Ezio stopped being a Christian. There wasn't much really confirming that he didn't believe in God, and there are certain moments that would imply he still believes in God. His issues have more to do with the Church as an earthly institution, which is very fair for the 15th and 16th centuries. If anything, he's probably lapsed Catholic. I mean, it's pretty difficult to avoid excommunication after his tustle with Pope Alexander VI. As for the Frye twins, they never tackle religion in that game, so they would be pure speculation. Ezio is both christian and atheist then HEHEHHE
@@loglogic7557 Pay attention to their talk
If I remember correctly, according to one of the Codex pages, Altair became agnostic not atheist. And Ezio never became atheist.

To be more precise :
Altair was a subject of the Abbasid Caliphate, capital city Bagdad in modern day Irak, in the XIIth century.
Enzio was a citizen of the Granduchy of Toscany.
Connor is born as British subject of New England colonies, he became US citizen only after the indépendance.
Edward Kenway is born after the Act of Union, so he was British, not welsh.
Adewale was living in the Spanish empire, Trinidad became British later in 1797 before the indépendance in 1962.

@@simpleconcept3698 wrong. I read machiavelli. And the man can't shut up about how Italy needs to united
If you were a Greek in Libya, Cyrene, you would be allowed into a gymnasium... if you were Egyptian or Persian, you would not.

Actually Layla Hassan is American. But she is from an Egyptian-American family having roots in Egypt but currently living in the United States. So I would not say that her nationality is Egyptian, because she was in fact born and raised in the United States.
Yes. Her bio says she was born in America.
Agree
And even then, calling her an Egyptian-American would be more accurate if she was first born and raised in Egypt and then moved to the US. She's just overall an American with Egyptian heritage.
I only played the one with the crusaders. How long did they drag this franchise??????
basim is a muslim because in a trailer somewhere he said ALHAMDULILAH means Thanks to ALLAH.
In fact, the Assassins were in Iran during the Samanid period, and we don't even have an Iranian Assassin. And their real name is Hashashin.
So there's an English, Irish and Welsh assassin but we still don't have any Scottish assassins... shocking
yo the sheep fucker assasin
You missed Haytham. But I think Haytham probably didn’t care for religion judging by his character.
That would mean that Ezio, Connor, Edward etc were Muslims because they were assassins. The templars and assassin's ingame have been secularized and don't share the religious nature of their real world counterparts.
@@bakrahabibi5471What comment are you even replying to? No one here mentioned Connor or Ezio.
@@Full_Otto my reply was to a comment which has since been deleted
Heytham was most probably Cristian since most of templers are shown to be Cristian
Respect for Ezio
Then that would make all assassins skeptics and not atheists/agnostics
The Great Assassins are Iranian and their commander's name was Hasan Saqa. They were born in Iran and died in Iran in the war with the Mongols. Their castle in Iran is in the city of Qazvin, and their original name is Hashashion has been

Like Eivor/Eivør, I am also a Norse Pagan. Most Norwegians are christians. I was raised to be a Norse Pagan but with a more modern and civil point of view for sure. We have rules and words of wisdom like christianity but very different. I go to parties, ceremonies and Hof (let’s call that church). I got many christian friends. Also muslims. I will treat common folk with respect as long as they do the same to me. Our version of Norwegian is ancient and super hard for other Norwegians to understand. You need to be from this area to fully understand us. So we change dialect when we talk with people from other places in Norway.

They were the first civilisation the ones taken as ‘gods’ I believe are the surviving ines and I believe like the ‘gods’ Odin and Zeus are the same Isi just different interpretation from the different humans and as a Muslim (Nkt being biased) by I think there is a god since assassin’s creed or based on the hashasgins who are muskim and there’s different things in why I believe Allah/God exists in assassins creed and why Nkt all characters are atheist
you made a huge mistake! how can forget about Haytham Kenway a devout Christian. Templar.

The fact that they putted ezio's theme in this whole video just says he has the best story.
My guess is that Jacob was probably Agnostic or more like Edward, while Evie strikes me as a Protestant of some kind.

@@Velnar. excellent point!!! 😁😁 I find it so interesting and ironic that we human beings can at times lay aside our differences in times of "war," but seem to unable to do so in times of "peace." The irony part is that war is when differences become so great that the only solution our "highly evolved" minds can come up is to kill eachother and yet it is in times of war that many if not all of other, perhaps lesser, differences are put aside, only to be taken up again when the war/crisis ends. It seems to me that our human minds still have some evolving to do 🤣🤣
