    Thanks for this amazing track. Robert White's guitar and Uriel Jones' drumming really come thru in a way you can't easily hear on the original track. Superb musicianship all around.

    Love Jamerson's line. Carol Kaye played on the Beach Boys' version of this. She was part of the West Coast "Wrecking Crew" that played a lot of Motown arrangements for different West Coast artists.

    Thank you! I love playing along to this song with my 1960's precision and 1964 ampeg b15. Rock on Jamestown!

    • @leodowneyjr9594
      @leodowneyjr9594 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Precision's the way to go with the soul Funk stuff man I got a generic Precision but not Squires some CMI but they're really solid but yeah man you can't you know what to do with sounds like. . Yeah you get that old tube amps with a 15in speaker that's badass what you need. That 15-inch speakers do with the deepest best, most real sound. . Kept running into bases last couple years on playing classic rock and hard rock pick up one to use stacks for 10 bass cabs I don't like to sound out of four tens. I'd rather have two 15in speakers Supply we better deeper bass sound in 410 cabinets and the rest of the crap out there I'll take a couple 15s any day the Addison tubes to it that's the best man to get like an Ampeg classic 1960s Style

  • @pjriverdale8461
    @pjriverdale8461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    It would not be unusual for this to be multiple takes spliced together which would account for perceived anomalies in the bass line.
    But what it sounds like is vocal removal software screwing with frequencies in some sections.
    Regardless of WHO is playing bass, this is as good an example as any to be found of how OLD SCHOOL FOUR STRING ELECTRIC BASS SHOULD BE PLAYED.
    And not in the least, just how much can be gotten out of a four string by a master of the instrument.
    Five, six and more hippity hoppity stringed basses are for people who wanted to play lead guitar in the first place.
    Haters, don't bother, ALL OF YOU PUT TOGETHER WILL NEVER BE ONE TENTH OF A JAMERSON ON YOUR BEST DAY.

    I love the bass line in this song. I know it was Jamerson playing... but, something bothers me. Start listening at 1:27 and you hear what clearly sounds like Jamerson: tone, attack, rhythm, style. Then, at 1:37 to at least 1:47, something odd happens. Listen to it (with good headphones!) and think about how different it is from other similar parts of the song, such as at 0:59.

      That's because this is an homemade mix of mine. I took two different tracks - one instrumental and the other one being the original stevie song - they are mixed quite differently. So you can notice the transition at 1:44 when Stevie comes in.

    The Jamerson/Kaye debate is hotly contested, I know I wanted to believe Carol after reading her books detailing her memories on some of these recordings, but here is the definitive answer: chnm.gmu.edu/courses/magic/kaye/ IT WAS Jamerson all the way!

    • @russellthisjohnson2571
      @russellthisjohnson2571 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you! Regardless of the claims Kaye wrote in her book, Emory Gordy said in an interview that he never even heard of Kaye and she never so much as set foot in the snake pit. Besides, she played with a pick. Jameson played with the "hook". If that's not Jamerson playing on Bernadette then I'll eat a big ol' shit burger.

    • @DJGary0910
      @DJGary0910 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      russell this johnson that's James Stevie told Scott Edwards that who asked him about the controversy who did what my beliefs Carol was not in Detroit when this was cut her style was More Love by Smokey
      you can hear a pick plucking the bass not a finger she probably did some LA date's but
      James was on call for everything in Detroit and a bit in LA he did Bernadette as well I don't hear no picks on them tracks James wouldn't dare
