That album was an incredible masterpiece from the beginning to the end.
Siiii❤️
yeah and wasnt received that way which is insane to me
Yeah for sure greta memories
Yeah
Every last song is a stunner.
The handbag slinging always makes me smile. Such a vibrant, bubbly human being.
Right!!!! You know who she copied doing that move? LOL!!!! She copied Roger Daltry. He was the front man and singer of The Who. He invented the Mic swing. Best place to see it is their concert from 1969 called Live at Leeds. Enjoy your day!!!! LOL!!!!!! Keep listening to this great stuff too instead of the boring assed pop music we got today,
@@sethwetzel974 Thanks for that. I'm familiar with Roger Daltry and The Who, just never saw them live, so never would've made the connection. I'll be sure to look for that concert. Have a great time listening to real music. You rock
@@rijmertspreeth4575 Thanks brother!!!! You have the best day and keep rocking!!! Right now I'm jamming a little Women and Children First by a small band you may have heard of called Van Halen!!!!! Peace be with you my friend!!! Always!!!! Take care of yourself and your family.
Only she can evoke great sadness and great joy in the same song. Genius album.
yessss!
😢
Just posted the same thing before seeing your comment.
Genius
This style suited her so perfectly, hair outfit, everything
Yup. She's cultivated so many great looks over the years, but this was the best one. Really, really cool. And if she can be that cool just going out for a pastry, imagine if she put some effort into it ;)
@@jacobrussell8583 I'd take her out for dinner and a pastry after.
Threw my bad fortune
Off the top of
A tall building
I'd rather done it with you
Your boy's smile
Five in the morning
Looked into your eyes
And I was really in love
In Chinatown
Hungover
You showed me
Just what I could do
Talking about
Time travel
And the meaning
And just what it was worth
[Chorus]
And I feel like some bird of paradise
My bad fortune slipping away
And I feel the innocence of a child
Everybody's got something good to say
[Verse 2]
Things I once thought
Unbelievable
In my life
Have all taken place
When we walked through
Little Italy
I saw my reflection
Come right off your face
I paint pictures
To remember
You're too beautiful
To put into words
Like a gypsy
You dance in circles
All around me
And all over the world
Chorus]
And I feel like some bird of paradise
My bad fortune slipping away
And I feel the innocence of a child
Everybody's got something good to say
And I feel like some bird of paradise
My bad fortune slipping away
And I feel the innocence of a child
Everybody's got something good to say
[Outro]
So I take my
Good fortune
And I fantasize
Of our leaving
Like some modern day
Gypsy landslide
Like some modern day
Like some modern day
Bonnie and Clyde
Bonnie and Clyde
On the run again
On the run again
On the run again
On the run again
On the run again
Polly Jean ROCKS! "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea " is an EPIC piece of work!
Anything she touches musically is golden... 🇬🇧 UK gave us all a gift with her🇺🇸
MAN LOOK AT THIS MASTERPIECE!
Oh, PJ!
True ❤
Indeed
This woman is so fucking great. I've forgotten how great this album is.
Too beautiful to put it to wo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ords!
What a line! What an energy!
Hubba hubba
This is almost a cross between About A Girl and Dancing Barefoot.
It's rare to find an album where every song is a gem but Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea is that album. I was mesmerized, blown away, and hooked.
ditto
Agreed. She has been amazing over a 30 year career but that’s her magnum opus 😉
Listened to it for the first time today, certainly some great work. A little late to the party, but I am now a big fan of PJ.
Umm.. Rid of me? Every song rocked.
I don't give it enough love :(
I’d give anything to bring the world back to the year 2000. What an incredible time it was
i like her authenticity, craziness and confidence
this album came out 20 years ago... still one I go back to time and time again. some powerful self-discovery feelings.
My all time favorite pj harvey song. So many memories. I feel young again listening. Music is one weird time machine.
jeez- I bought this when it first came out! Tempus fugit...
it came the year i was born and now i'm experiencing it for the first time, love it
Polly is one of the true geniuses in the music industry. I used to listen to this song everytime I walked through Chinatown hungover.
I read an interview where this described this as her most 'uncharacteristic' album. Certainly one of her best IMHO.
17 y.o me is really happy to see her live, 36 y.o me is glad that that’ve happened ❤️
All of her videos are just her dancing around in a simple location and it works every time.
Because the music's good. And she is so sleekly sexually comfortable with herself. It's a massive turn-on for me.
You can tell she felt beautiful while shooting this video :)
I'm just glad that she seems to be really enjoying herself. :)
i would feel beautiful too if Nick Cave was loving me
She's nothing but beautiful
Legendary observation and comment
Well, she is beautiful
The way she is twirling the purse. Love this song.
how does she make swinging a handbdag look so cool?
+Samantha Williamson She makes everything cool. :-)
cause she's perfect, just saying.
+Samantha Williamson and IN TIME with the beat as well !!!!!!
every move she makes look so damn cool
Cause she's hot as fuck
Love the way she says Little Italy
Leetle italeeey
I feel the same.
As every year passes, I realise just how much I missed out on by not paying attention to artists like PJ Harvey at the time. This is a great song from an even greater artist. As music converges to a beige blandness, artists like PJ Harvey show us that there's so much more music can be.
Welcome
PJ Harvey is criminally underrated and she should be in the hall of fame!
Hall of fame is overrated
This lady is in total control of everything.............
I feel like the lyrics and sentiment of the song is actually the opposite. Someone sparked her to be Okay with letting go of control... especially the last verse. As an artist, however I agree she knows what she is doing!
I wish Pj, Bjork, and Tori Amos would start going on tours again like they used to...
Can we add Ani Defranco into the mix?
I am supportive of our new gen of female artists but damn Pj, Kim, Tori, L7, Babes, etc .so many more all had their own unique soul. So glad to be a gen Xer 🌹 wish my ass looked as good now as it did back then though lol
Tori Amos has been on tour. I saw her live in 2017.
In the past 5 years I've seen the three of them. Bjork and Tori Amos are not on PJ Harvey's level. PJ remains smart and extremely good and creative. The other two try hard to be relevant and yet the result is not even near to what they used to be...just a bunch of noises and screams.
I feel so blessed I've seen all 3. Pj Harvey twice. Once in gosh was it 94? 95? In Chicago. Then again in Seattle in 2009 (?)with John Parish. I have the worst memory. I've also seen Tori twice and got to meet her after the first time I saw her when she play at IU (Indiana University). That must have been 94 or 95 too. Then again in Seattle in 08? Bjork only once which was 95 in Cleveland on her Post tour at the Agora Theater. That was one of the most amazing live performances ever.
that song gives me energy to live...
Every time I hear her I'm impressed.
this song reminds me of places that I have never been to & feelings I have never felt
Deep stuff!
I like that thought
eh?!
Abe Simpson said it once!
That's poetry
Probably this will be nostalgic some day
In my humble opinion PJ Harvey ranks alongside only Kate Bush and David Bowie as the UK's best ever solo singer songwriters. So strange she hasn't had the huge success of those two because she's just as talented, attractive and uber cool.
I have had my brain 🧠 smashed as I'm from the anal passage of Europe and had no clue she was from the same rectum as myself
Love both Polly and her music very much. Love how the black dress they scripted for her to wear in the video matches her black hair too. She's truly one of a very kind. One of the very best musicians in the world.
when I listen to this song, I feel like everything is possible... :)
Tracchofyre
ok, so I talked to the kangaroo and the rebellion is on, we're coming out ;) thanks :)
PJ Harvey is so beautiful. A outstanding video.
she even better live ..love it thanks xxx
Right on
After watching a number of videos, I just realized how hot she was/is.
This album means so much to me as in April 2010 I suffered a brain haemorrhage. I lost eight months of memory pre haemorrhage and went to Dorset with a new girlfriend I didn't even know I had only a week before I got ill. I brought this album as a compromise as she wasn't really a fan of my eighties punk music collection, I remember listening to it on the way down there and when I was listening to it on my iPod in hospital could remember every song off it......
She’s a mood 🔥
And I feel the innocence of a child...everybody's got something good to say
She has gotten more and more gorgeous as the years go by. Amazing. One of the most unique voices and sensibilities in rock.
I don't think I've ever seen a musician or any public figure with such a high concentration of positive comments.
“Everybody's got something good to say”
Considering that she has the most dark lyrics too... Haha
When this album came out, I didn’t appreciate its brilliance as I was preoccupied taking care of my wife as she was battling breast cancer. Fast forward to 2003-04, this album became my salvation after she lost her battle. Like others have stated, there isn’t a song to skip on the album.
Your loss was a good long time ago, but it still probably hurts every day. God bless you.
@@johnthorne4093 Thank you for your comment. That was extremely considerate & thoughtful. I appreciate it. Everyone who is fortunate to make it to later stages of life eventually experiences the loss of loved ones. As we age, we start to realize that death is every bit essential & part of life as birth. Take care.
God bless you, your wife and your family. I hope things are OK. I lost my father to cancer last year and it's still so painful
How wondrous when the lyrics reflect what is actually happening in your life. And how bittersweet that the feeling never quite lasts long enough. Amazing song.
One of the best female British artists, who doesn't get the airtime she deserves....
This video exemplifies so many reasons why I like PJ Harvey.
"And I feel like a bird of paradise, my bad fortune slipping away...." Love it!!!! :-)
Pedant alert:
"And I feel like, some bird of paradise"
The feeling of being in love perfectly encapsulated in three minutes and nineteen seconds 💗
She's so talented
I love her acting in her music videos, the dance moves she does in "Down By The Water" and "Send His Love To Me" are mesmerising
I hava a big crush on her. I love her so much.
She’s really happy here! I wish I had this experience in my life. But I’m happy 😃 for her, she’s such a true artist. Good for you Polly Jean, may you stay forever young.
Gosh. The soundtrack of my life in early 2000.
Same here :-)
No doubt, isn't the entire album BOSS?!?!
I wanna live my best life like she is in this video
I love how her instrumentals especially the guitars compliment her singing and don't cover it up unlike most pop commercial songs. They are also quite simple yet intriguing.
This woman is a goddess!!! She has been a HUGE inspiration to me since I discovered her when I was 13...love everything she's ever done. xoxoxo
Quynbi
Love PJ harvey.talent and class.❤
My god!. That's one of the most captivating videos I've ever seen.
I adore the energy of this tune so so much.
God I love her!
Me too! :)
So sad, beautiful and happy all at once in words and music - this mix makes it a great song.
So glad I caught this tour live.
Hysterical beauty
A real and true Artist, something You don't see anymore nowadays. I hope She comes to Southamerica..
Her smile is contagious
“Everybody’s got somebody good to say” ♥️
How many times have I watched this now?
I love this song reminds me of the night life going bar hopping, late restaurants, and fun
Still an awesome tune. I love the start where she walks out of the doorway, then turns like she has changed her mind and is going back in, then continues on her way.
One of the best songs ever .
Good music. Real music. No auto tune, no trickys, no pop noises.
Just powerfull sound
She looks amazing in this video, this song seems to be simple but it has power.
This song makes feel like how I remember spending my 20s in the aught. Free, excited, alive after dark. Now almost 40, in a job I hate, tired and asleep before 9pm. Songs like these help manage through the life of comprise as depicted in the film Broken Flowers. ❤🐐
Great Lady.
This album was so prophetic in 2000
Probably one of the best vocalists and songwriters of the 1990s. I do recall hearing this over 20 years ago and cranking it way up! the entire album this is from is a masterpiece imho.
Of course+ Fiona Apple, Tori Amos..
@@kareemosama5373 whatever happened to them? Do you recall Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star?
Emotional brilliance
I remember just graduating from school and felt like I was watching what deep inside I always wanted to do. She wasn't posing a meanie/badass attitude as many artists back then, just goofing around and having fun with some awesome background electric chords in a cool black dress and boots. I found her so honest with herself. Since then she's one of my maximum muses alongside Björk.
Top artist and singer. If she was performing during 60's or 70's she would be a woodstock legend!
Thank you for your nice music Miss Harvey
Absolutely brilliant. Vibrant and in your face - in a good way.
Every single song on this album is a gem. Polly, you are amazing.
What a woman. Respect and admiration.
One of my favourite songs ever
Such a terrific song from a great artist! Jo Wiley show Radio 2 just played this on her evening show, in fact it's featured all week on the vinyl revival slot!!
My kind of girl 🙌🤟
I’m feeling so much
This song has been stuck in my head all evening, brilliant.
This moved me to tears of joy.
this is the best song ever
Great song.
Her voice 💕
Such nostalgia. I can’t explain the feeling what I felt during my age when this came out.
Underrated song and gorgeous. Looks like Julia Bradbury.
There's something really good about this song.
How does she keep swinging that bag and nothing falls out, talk about great skills, Love PJ Harvey
Haven't you ever swung a bag with stuff in it and nothing falls out? For example water won't spill out of a bucket if swung with enough motion. Think it has to do with centrifugal force.
physics : a force that causes an object moving in a circular path to move out and away from the centerof its path.
A song that sends shivers down my back❤❤
Like some modern-day, gypsy landslide... 😌❤️
Happy 20th anniversary to Stories from the CIty, Stories from the Sea
Good God the memories this song brings me is priceless I was just becoming a person when this banger came out
She rocks in every shape and form.....awesome.....
Gotta say girl the tune is always classic but that look is still on fire... more so,
What a song. What a fucking song.
Cant hear this without tearing up, my wife loved her. We startedas roommates,id just gotten out of prison. She was going to see her but had nobody to go with but had no problem going to a show by herself. I went with her and got 2 better tickets from a scalper. Had a blast and fell halfway in love with her that night. She died in 2019.
Sorry for your loss my friend
@@yolothatrolo3577 t appreciate that. I'm mostly as over it as ill ever be, but music is funny like that it can sneak into the tiniest cracks
@@FrithonaHrududu02127 well said. so true
Great song by PJ, really love her vocal phrasing and looking so gorgeous in this one.
Amazing artist. Brilliant album.
Perfection.
