A girl brought me to her house in the French Quarter late one night in about 1996. She put this record on while she enjoyed my company. This incredible record has stayed with me all these years.

I always wished they'd collaborated on a whole album together. Their musical styles are very complementary, particularly with their respective mid-to-late-90s material, eg "Murder Ballads" where this song is from, "Let Love In" and "The Boatsman's Call" in Nick's case; "Is this Desire?", "To Bring You My Love" and "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" in Polly Jean's case.
Together they would've created something truly special. I'm guessing their tumultuous relationship issues might have been a hindrance to such a project. I believe Nick was still using heroin and alcohol frequently at that point, and IIRC PJ had severely curtailed her drug use around the release of her third album "To Bring You My Love" in 1993 (which was dramatically different from her first two albums which were pure grunge, and reflected a permanent change in her sound).
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld Harvey was never a serious drug user, certainly not out of control and strung out on the needle like Nick was around this time. As a matter of fact, I have looked and looked yet I can't find a single shred of evidence to suggest she was even using drugs recreationally at any point in her career.

It's such a raw video. According to Cave, he did not know Harvey well when they made this video. They had both recorded their parts of the song in different studios and the sexual tension developed during making this clip. That is what makes it so genuine. The relationship came afterwards.
