While I agree, it's rather outstanding the amount of amazing music this country has produced. Of course I only really listen to English music so I've somewhat limited myself but compare the UK to the rest of the English speaking world and we've done something incredibly right
This song is still way ahead of it's time. Just randomly discovered yesterday and genuinely thought this was a recently released song. There's something about this that cannot be described in words. Dangerously captivating
I really love seeing someone discover great music for the first time. This song, while not super well known, has had staying power over the years, albeit having more of a sleeper/cult fan base. As you can see it has over 600k likes, just edging out the subscriber rate for the band itself. I just so happened to be putting a variety playlist together and threw this one in. Who knows, maybe someone out there will make more happy discoveries this way. Happy music exploring! th-cam.com/play/PLNFOplKnrHHDTNHnuWwJd0uI-CruPS_kX.html
I actually thought of this song while watching the TV show house m.d. and waiting for the intro with this song but I think they removed it and went back to their old intro... but I love this song and it popped back into my head recently along with this video... but I absolutely love this song and had to listen it...
I have a long history with Bristol. From 1996 onwards. I moved there when I was 18. This started from when my so called mother couldn't remember my date of birth. I played this song for her. She didn't get it. I went to Bristol University and got a 1st. I was the 1st women in my family to go to University. I still love this song X
My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Darius, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life..
First time i heard this song it was winter 1998, i had just moved to a new state. I was sitting in the snow, watching the flakes fall to the sounds in my cd walkman. Tears fell and my soul weeped to hear such a haunting melody. To ever try and recreate that first listen can never be matched. ❤ but i still love this one.
I thought that in the future more music would follow suit and push the limits of what trip-hop could be. Now there is certainly still very good music of the same genre being put out there but none that truly surpasses this album.
Vocally Elizabeth Fraser is on a whole other level. Just amazing really. Her voice is positively uncanny. Stupendous. Seriously, there is not enough can be said about it.
On a whole other level compared to what? The talentless so-called superstars in the mainstream who literally can't sing? Yes. Compared to real signers? Not really.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers, who were there, floating on CT's music thru Garlands, Treasure, Blue Bell Knoll, Heaven or Las Vegas, on vinyl, tape and CD, knew of Liz's voice. We've travelled thru Liz's voice.
I was in the hospital listening to this song trying to create a memory of my baby, in my womb, knowing he had almost no chances in this world. He was beautiful and perfect.
This reminds me of my beautiful nephew Christophor, who at just 18 in November 1998, chose to leave us. He left his mother, my sister, he is her only child. How awful that time was for us all, but her suffering was unspeakable. Oh we miss you Tiff 💔
God's honest truth - way back when airlines used to have those 'radio stations' to listen to on their planes, this song came on just as the aircraft (that I and my family were on) was coming in to land at our home city and at night after we'd had a fantastic holiday. It ended just as the plane was coming to a stop. It was like the end of a movie or something. Whenever I hear this song, it always reminds me of that incredible few minutes... along with a whole bunch of other memories.
+GhostDoggSamurai that's so relatable, sometimes there's just one song that captures the moment so well and every time you hear it it brings back those waves of nostalgia
+GhostDoggSamurai Lovely story :) for me this song makes me feel the world is slowing down and I'm the only one walking seeing how bad the or ugly our earth planet is becoming due to greediness/enviousness people became, so selfish -_-
I listen to this son while sleeping. The vocals and the music everything just calms my body down.... House brought this song into my life and i couldn't be more thankful than this.
For those who don't know, this song is composed by the lead singer of Cocteau Twins Elizabeth Fraser, at the time she wrote the lyrics for this song, she was dating Jeff Buckley that unfortunately happened to die of drowning in that same period, i guess no more explanation is needed, this song represents grief in all forms, the melody, the lyrics and the overall energy of the song.
People's heartbeat, flowing blood and breathing all resonant at a low frequency and this song's impact on that phenomenon are closely linked. Makes it all the more incredible work

I remember this song started playing over the tannoy while doing a overnight shift at work...and everybody naturally stopped speaking and just let the song play out first ...never had a song had that much power to control a room...its simply beautiful.
I stumbled upon this on “A discovery of witches”. Really good quote & songs in the show. Grief carves a place in the heart and sits there forever but when focused it can be a powerful motivator. Sadness becomes resolve and pain becomes action! “Fear is an illness. If you catch it and you leave it untreated, it can consume you. You face it. Facing your fear is not easy. ❤ “Nobody smart plays fair.” “It’s hard to regret something you didn’t choose.”
Massive Attack are trying to tell us what love is. The beat of the song perfectly represents the fragility of such an ethereal concept as love. It is fragile like the crystal of a teardrop, yet powerful like a droplet falling into a fire. Love is a doing word.
I adore Liz Fraser's voice but this collaboration with Massive Attack is without doubt among her finest, its serenity and the purity of her voice makes me have tingles all through my body. Though I'm not too sure whether it's this amazing video or the 2 times I've watched their shows live on ecstasy. It's almost enough to bring me to tears remembering times and people who passed on by.
I have lost count how many times I have watched House MD seasons 1-8 again and again and again. And this song...will forever be associated with Dr. Gregory House. Watched the show in the early 2000's and it never fails to bring some joy to me till today.

I first heard this as the “theme song” to House back in the early 2000’s and fell in love, looked it up, found this. I used to play this song to fall asleep to, it invokes a deep sense of peace and… nostalgia for me. It’s beautiful. So is Jose Gonzales’ of the same name.
English trip hop group Massive Attack. Vocals are performed by Elizabeth Fraser Trip hop at the very beginning of it all as techno faded away. Also--- with deep shades of Portishead.
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 Portishead and massive attack are both from exactly the same part of England. The city of Bristol, much like Seattle has grunge, Bristol has triphop. Bristol also has a huge cultural and arts scene, there's graffiti art on every wall and building, it's truly the city of artists in England.
I was born in 92 and have core memories starting in like 97ish and some slight memories before then of life and music from that time does the same to me. I felt so warm as a kid and the music puts a little bit of that warmth back.

He meanders through sounds like a river running to the sea, he runs through landscapes on the way longing to be free, his spirit will never be fully understood. RIP Buckley
It's modeled on a heartbeat... Its emotion is modeled on what happens when that heartbeat stops. If this doesn't grab your attention and give you a moment of pause, you are missing something. Sadly, if you are missing something, this music has a way of hitting even harder.

I lost my uncle in an accident in 2022. We've been slowly trying to sort out his stuff and we recently managed to figure out the password for his iPad (it was his own birthday haha). I had a little look and went into his music, this was the last song he was listening to on it. I started listening to this song in early 2023 after hearing it in House and I loved it, I didn't ever know he liked it too. He had a great, diverse taste in music. Miss him every day ❤

There is an illusivity to this melody line like captured fairy dust. It’s like it has the force of nature running through it. Liz was the perfect vocalist to interpret this exquisite song!

In the bible Jesus dissapears between the ages of 12 and 30. So we know nothing of this period. He could have done anything, including marrying and fathering children.
Well, there are. A couple of suggestions: "Song To The Siren" by This Mortal Coil - "The Lobby" and "The Taxi Ride" both by Jane Siberry - "Lonely, Lonely" by Feist. But there are a lot more. Enjoy.
I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of fans House was responsible for. All their albums still sound ahead of their time, especially 100th Window. Timeless, actually.
i was in the Goth scene/club scene before *House* aired. I was a DJ too, and you're exactly right. *House* put Massive Attack on the map among Vanillas. They'd come to our club, thinking they'd hear more Massive Attack, and ilk. Instead they got *Dead can Dance*, *Sisters of Mercy*, *Skinny Puppies*, *Grendel*, and *Xuberx*, then they'd ding, dong, ditch really quick, realising we were a bunch of freaks, lol
For me there are really just two songs from them that do anything: this one and Unfinished Sympathy. Other stuff they did is not exactly bad, but I have to actively take the time to listen to them, whereas these two can just take me with them regardless of what else may occupy me at the moment.

It is 100% feathers not fearless like these sheep are all saying. For proof go listen to the Jools Holland performance, you can blatantly hear the TH in feathers. Also, 'fearless on my breath' doesn't even make sense.
Is it crazy I never heard this song until this year? So it's brand new to me and fits this time and age perfectly. Glad I got to hear it before my time here is up.
I was 7 the first time i heard this, one of the best things my family did was to teach me music is beautiful and experience it anytime you can be it good or bad, same as life.
my mind scatters throughout the day with business and social events, but I simply play this and it's like everything suddenly formulates into a beautiful prism and reminds me of how beautiful it is to be alive and experience life before you are taken. Share it before its gone.
Up until now I have only ever listened to this masterpiece on the radio with good vibes. Now I will have to listen with sorrow. Which means I can now still enjoy this song, but just on another level. My condolences still 2 years later.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning come down choon for us back in the 90s after being out raving all night....❤❤

It's 2020 and 1998 Massive attack are still way ahead of their time.
I thought that in the future more music would follow suit and push the limits of what trip-hop could be. Now there is certainly still very good music of the same genre being put out there but none that truly surpasses this album.
Maybe they built a strong road, I've enjoyed the same genre in recent times from different underrated artists ...
Still going back to 1991 massive attack honey xxx

Vocally Elizabeth Fraser is on a whole other level. Just amazing really. Her voice is positively uncanny. Stupendous. Seriously, there is not enough can be said about it.
Fans of Cocteau Twins can attest! Heaven or Las Vegas is still my favorite!
We knew from early Cocteau Twins days. She is an angel who walks amongs bus
On a whole other level compared to what? The talentless so-called superstars in the mainstream who literally can't sing? Yes. Compared to real signers? Not really.
Song to the Siren is an absolutely beautiful tune as well 👌
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers, who were there, floating on CT's music thru Garlands, Treasure, Blue Bell Knoll, Heaven or Las Vegas, on vinyl, tape and CD, knew of Liz's voice. We've travelled thru Liz's voice.

Powerful I’ve only ever written a song before losing the one I love and care about but never after it’s too painful to write about it
She wasn't dating Jeff Buckley at the time. He was in a relationship with Joan Wasser, to whom he had recently proposed.

First time I was aware of Massive Attack. That and Luther has brought them back I think.

I'm sorry, I really don't want to be rude, but where we're you all this time? 😂
@@ianswift3521Maybe for you, I’m 17 and this song doesn’t give me 90s vibes at all lol
@@angelvuI'd argue it's timeless so you're right 👊
I was 7 the first time i heard this, one of the best things my family did was to teach me music is beautiful and experience it anytime you can be it good or bad, same as life.
RIP IN PIECES Dr. House.. :'(( best show ever made..
RIP IN PIECES = Rest In Peace In Pieces....... I see what you did there!
the show is.
piratebay anyone?
Rip in pieces what
wait did Dr House die if he did OH MY GOD WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME WUT THE FUCK
my mind scatters throughout the day with business and social events, but I simply play this and it's like everything suddenly formulates into a beautiful prism and reminds me of how beautiful it is to be alive and experience life before you are taken. Share it before its gone.
Twenty years ago this bought me love and life. Now I just wish to end it!
Or before you get lupus
Same but most dont understand
Up until now I have only ever listened to this masterpiece on the radio with good vibes. Now I will have to listen with sorrow. Which means I can now still enjoy this song, but just on another level. My condolences still 2 years later.
This song will never die
Nope. It is Art as mutch it creates souls😢
wrong
How can it die? It’s the song of birth. It can never die 😊
