A few quick frames comparing the codecs in a backlit situation. In the final comparison I boosted the exposure, lifted the shadows considerably and then brought the highlights back down.
Thank you! Massive difference. My VA will be here today! Thanks again for posting it (I had commented on the other vid requesting backlit). Thank you again. As an aside, if you’d like to make the internal look better: Blur radius .52 Mid details -20 Halation (just a touch) Film grain (just a touch)
Fantastic! Look forward to seeing what you produce with it. As a heads up you’ll likely need to update the firmware on the VA. Blackmagic makes it pretty easy thankfully, you download the updater from their support page. And thanks for the tip for shooting internal, I’ll give that a try.
I was examining your past videos and was looking forward to this type video. I have the Video Assist in cart but in conflict if I really need it with the hassle workflow. These clips dont differ much except I see more sharpness in the internal codec especially in the hat and skin. Makes me wonder if BRAW is more practical outside. I'm thinking what if you were to put a soft filter on the internal codec.
Truth be told I didn’t see that much difference here too aside from a softer gradation between the colors with BRAW. I had hoped for a sunny day to do a better comparison but it’s been cloudy and gloomy the past two weeks! At the end of the day, is having RAW completely necessary? No, probably not. Is it nice to have? For sure. It’s a shame the VA is so expensive. If I wasn’t already a blackmagic and Resolve user I probably would have gone with the Ninja V for ProRes RAW.
The BM Assit do you think it's worth it it's worth it? in your other video where you made another comparison, there was not much difference when you used the ProRes and Braw codec, but in this video I did notice a significant difference
For me image quality is the most important factor so I think it’s worth it, at least for me. Is it necessary, no. You can still get a killer image without it, but I’m happy to have it and use it whenever practically feasible.
I think braw is bypassing some of the artificial sharpness happening in the internal processor of the camera. Really beneficial for making narrative work. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent choice

Agreed
Oh, by the way : Is it possible to turn off the lens correction while using internal codecs? Cheers!
I’m not sure actually. I don’t think so offhand but tbh I haven’t tried lol
@@brandonrude Ahh, too bad. But thanks for the answer!!
Totally filmic! The colors separated from the video have softened. It's definitely worth the BRAW recording. Nicholas Cage would agree 👍🏻
Cage is totally a BRAW kind of guy.
braw is on the left or right?
On the right
What's the music?
It's called "Lemon Squeezy" by Martin Landstrom. Found it on Epidemic Sound.
Moonstruck is my favorite nic cage movie
Excellent choice! Raising Arizona might by my favorite.
