4l60E to 4L80E Swap Pt. 2 Driveshaft and Wiring

  • In the last upload, I physically mounted the 4l80e to the 5.3 LS using the flat 6.0 flexplate and crankshaft spacer, and then modified the crossmember to hold up the transmission since the rear mount is in a different place. This time, I'll go over the last steps to connect the 4l80e to the driveshaft and get the wiring sorted out. This requires swapping a yoke for the 4l80e onto the driveshaft that the 4l60 was attached to, and a wiring harness adapter for the 4l80 that will allow the electronic connections to be made and the input speed sensor to be connected to the computer, and lastly, you will need to segment swap the computer to allow the 4l80e to be properly controller.

    The 2wd swap is sooo much easier. I built a 4l80 and swapped into an 02 Yukon. Custom driveshafts, modded xfer case, and so forth. Hptuners was the easy part. Good vid. Also note that the newer 4l80 have trans lines both up front like a 4l60. Big warning for you is if you do an lines, there is a special extended fitting for the rear line. You'll kill the trans if you don't have that. My old Yukon before it was destroyed when a cop rear ended me. i.imgur.com/CHPxj5g.jpg

    What did you do about the rear cooler line fitting into the trans? I have been researching and building my parts list for this swap and the longer rear fitting(protrudes deeper into the 4L80E) is something that a bunch of people say has killed transmissions when overlooked. Did your 80e have one you were able to reuse?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah, the stock "c-clip quick connect" fitting was still in the trans when I got it, so no need to do anything. but yes, if you are swapping an aftermarket AN style fitting, you do need the longer fitting in the rear port

    You didn't need to cut anything off of that 80e slip yoke? it looked like it bottomed out when you pushed it into the transmission. Since this is a 2 piece, do you not need that inch or so of play when the driveshaft is installed?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Man I just spent way too many hours on the forums, which continues to prove a giant waste of time. Watching your vid answered a lot of questions that I had. Is there any way to verify when you are 80e shopping, that you have the transmission which has a fully splined output shaft? Some of these apparently have splines a few inches up, then there is come kind of collar deal around it. I'd imagine that the ideal one is one with all of the splines.
