Tonight we finally start the 4l80e swap in the gmc sierra. I have had issues with the 4l60e ever since I did the v8 swap. I should have know it would cause problems. In this video I show you how to remove the old 4l60e transmission in preparation for the 4l80e replacement. The 4l80e in stock form is way stronger and should do well in this truck. This process will work in other vehicles like silverado and tahoe. I will be should you how to do the 4l80e swap and the parts and tools you need to do it. I am going to be breaking it up into multiple videos to make it easier on me as I am still gathering parts. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

Great to see the green Nbs love that truck
Yeah. Poor thing
You are knocking them out. Daily driver also looks great too.
Thank you. Plugging away out here. Lol
Good to know how to do this for the future!! I’ll wait to ask questions if any till the end since this is part 1. Thanks Travis!
Hopefully it helps others.
Buddy I love your videos. I’m getting ready to put a 6.0 and 4l80 in my 99 nbs .
Thank you
Quick note on GEN3 decat. You can turn off the cat codes like, P0420 and P0430 (and rear O2 codes) but the GEN3 PCM still commands the cat test. It commands extra fuel to check the reaction of the rear O2s. So if you remove the rear O2s the PCM goes into a cycle that it cannot answer. Some strap the O2s to the frame. I leave them in the pipe.
Interesting and thank you
@@TWAMotorsports GEN4 you can actually unplug the rear sensors and get rid of them but also important to turn off "desoot mode" in that case.
Thanks for that. I will make sure that is done
Exactly what I’m looking for
Hopefully it helps
Good Friday afternoon Travis I'm on my lunch break.. I'll catch your video tonight when I get home from work.. I worked 14hrs yesterday so when I was exhausted from the long busy week..
I'd imagine. Have a good weekend
@@TWAMotorsports good Sunday morning Travis.. happy Halloween to you and your family...be safe out there....
Thank you. You as well
You are blessed brother.
That is for sure. Thank you
Finally on the green truck
Its a start
Learning 🔥💪🏽 Thanks
Thank you
Great video!!!! That could be a real pain doing that on the ground. ✌
Thank you. Definitely not as fun. Lol
That was a very good video
Thank you
Super excited for this video. Wanting to due this swap on my 2005
Hopefully I can finish it soon
I plan to get lq9 and use the rebuilt/goodies as well in the 4l60e that I have laying around, I don’t tow much on my single cab so I do want to get 40k cooler etc but here I am debating if I should get it with 4l80e instead…. lol
In a 2wd it is such an easy swap for a 4l80
Where did you buy the polished aluminum center caps without the ugly gold bowtie for the green truck? I have looked everywhere but can't find them
Came with wheels. Link in video description
Hey man I’m doing a header swap on my gmc what should look out for I would just wanted to know why should I look out for since you have had a lot of nbs trucks
Pretty easy install. Need it high enough to get long tubs in
Perfect timing, About to do the same thing to my 05 rcsb. Can I ask what kind of tires and size are on the red stepside. They are exactly what I been looking for? Instant subbed👍
Thank you. They are 2015 up Sierra wheels. I listed a link to tires on red truck videos. 275/40-20
For the swaped 6.0 hd engine, the 4l80 will fit directly and tune without needing for any extra wiring or anything else?
Not if the original motor or transmission was different
Is that your old white Tahoe for sale sitting on 13 hyw just south of Warrensburg
Not by me
Ok, Denali Deen here again lol. So I've been researching the swap, and I'd like to know your thoughts on this VS just putting in a Performance Heavy Duty 4L60e build, to avoid the swap fitting process? Also, Have you any thoughts on rear diff upgrades, or even front diff HD upgrades, to better handle more power, rather than just relying solely on the tranny to handle it all? I'm asking bcuz my 4L60e is starting to go, and will go to the top of my list for repairs and I wanted to go ahead and do what I could in the process......
They are good too. I don't know about diffs though
Yo do you have a video of you installing those headers?
Kinda. Did it with the motor install videos
Brother do you recomend headers on a 03 silverado 5.3?
Its worth some extra power
great when are you doing the install
Hopefully next week
Ah, the fun of owning your own lift. I just lay on the ground the hoist the trans off my chest once it's unbolted.
Been there. Done that too
I had to replace my rear main on my 5.3 and let me tell you it was a pain in the ass without having the right tools and transmission jack
I agree. Lift makes it easier
Looks like that exhaust might have been cooking your trans fluid that close to the pan. Watching to see how you address on re-install.
No issues after getting good transmission
@@TWAMotorsports After watching all the videos, it looks lower. Is that what drags the ground or is it the crossmember adapter?
@danblackburn2859 the part that goes under motor to frame
I didn’t know about taking the starter off to get the torque converter bolts n I did it with the starter on 😂it was a pain
I don't know how thats possible
@@TWAMotorsports got the bolts between flywheel and block n used my fingers to start them and it’s brought just for the wrench to fit in
Holy cow
4l80e will always be stronger than a built 4l60e, but it's also a major power drag. Unless your 5.3 is Supercharged you'll never put out enough power to damage either if done right.
Hopefully down the road will be turbo
Why the 4l80e? Strength right. but did any of the gear ratios get changed? Why not rebuild a stronger 4l60e with better gear ratios?
Actually the 4l60e could be built for more power but the separation between gears is not as good as the 4l80
@@TWAMotorsports can't you put better gearing in the 4l60e to make it just as good? Or does separation between gears mean something else?
It will never be as strong. Money ahead to switch
What’s the measurements for the driveshaft?
Don't remember
Can I get the link of the headers
I rhink a link is in video description
👏
Thank you
What brand headers and y pipe is that
Cheap Ebay. Speed engineering was out of stock when I put it together
Ok thanks i kinda want the speed engineering headers
They are the best for the money
What did you cut the driveshaft at and what yoke did you use ?
Link to yoke in description. Not sure on measurements.
@@TWAMotorsports@ what modifications are needed?
Need to measure for new driveshaft
@@TWAMotorsports @ the one i heve it measures the same as the 60e
@gerardolopez5875 mine wasn't
I can’t find part2
Hasn't been made yet
@@TWAMotorsports ok thanks
It will be up in a few weeks
When r u gonna show the daily driver dropped
Started in last posted video. Final tomorrow night
They must not use salt on the roads where you live!
We do actually
@@TWAMotorsports Wow! Your trucks are in beautiful shape. It actually motivates me to spruce mine up a little
@@matthewjensen9550 I did buy this out of Memphis however
@@TWAMotorsports ahh okay, that explains why it’s in such nice shape
Yeah it was in decent shape when I bought it
nice shop nice tools seriously lacking EXPERIENCE! To many fails to explain. Anyone that does this will Understand!
Yep. It will never run
Hell yeah 🤘🦖
Thank you
