  • Derived from Reagan's own experience as a successful corporate executive and her nationwide qualitative research study, this talk explores the societally driven beliefs that reveal themselves in women's relationships at work and prevent them from accelerating into senior roles. It uses heartfelt stories, real-life examples, and an original framework to illustrate what women can start doing immediately to move from self-concious to self-confident by practicing "Relational Courage. Reagan Cannon is a dynamic speaker and coach with over 20 years of experience at Amazon and AT&T who empowers career focused women to become high-impact executives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Although I am not a woman, and can't fully identify with the challenges that come with being a woman in the workplace, I can relate to being "the only" in the room. It's hard. What a great video to remind me to keep tackling that confidence complex...

From lived experience, this is so very true. Thank you for such a clear articulation of the problem. Knowing about, and then practicing relational courage is so important to breaking down the internal barriers that prevent us moving forward.

This is pertinent and powerful. Thank you for sharing your experience and empowering us! Relational courage--so important and seemingly simple but is counter-intuitive to messages that we have adopted as truth over the years that have stifled us or crippled us with unnecessary fear. I appreciate the work that you are doing!

This is absolutely awesome!!! Relational Courage is exactly what is needed to combat what I’ve spent years thinking of as “the little lady” complex! You lead that revolution, Reagan!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Thank you Reagan, probably the 15 minutes where I learned the most about what it takes to progress in today's corporate world. You made me reflect on my own experiences, and on how my most difficult boss (a woman) pushed me way out of my comfort zone to stop being that "good boy" to demonstrate relational courage. I will definitely share this talk with my team and some of my mentees!

I loved hearing Reagan give this talk in person, and listening to it again here. I have followed rules my whole life and now that I’m considering breaking into higher leadership, I realize I need to work on my relational courage. Thank you for this, Reagan!

"Relational Courage" - this is brilliant, Reagan! Kudos to you for coining this term that is sure to become part of our professional culture and common business vernacular (at least in the companies I want to work for, and partner with) through this movement you're starting. This is spot on, and you're really on to something! It's profoundly simple, yet it takes a visionary like you to make it SIMPLY PROFOUND. Thank you for your leadership in this area of great need - which happens to be my great passion as well - helping women excel and soar into positions of leadership to change the world!

To me, what you are describing, is honesty. As in showcasing your true beliefs instead of hiding them away in case they might make waves. Ive come to believe that showing your true beliefs gets you the most respect. However, showing those beliefs at first requires a lot of courage.

Reagan, a round of applause 👏👏👏 and a huge thank you for these words of inspiration! As a people-pleaser and risk-averse type, your message on “relational courage” is exactly what I needed to hear. As women, we’re often told “don’t make waves, don’t be the squeaky wheel, don’t be abrasive/emotional, don’t try to fix what’s not broken (even when we know it can be improved)” and so on. We sit back and remain passive instead of having the courage to lean in and make a difference. It’s intimidating to know we will sometimes fail, but as long as we are learning and growing from those failures we’re bettering ourselves.
“The worst that can happen” almost never comes to be, so shifting our mindset to “what’s the best that can happen” is sound advice for any situation in one’s life. Thank you for the reminder and I look forward to hearing more from you!

It's amazing to see that women at all levels, all kinds of careers would have similar issue. I also have the problem of not able to let my team stand on their own, afraid of being wrong, and hold myself back to not bother other people. Next goal: finding my relational courage. Thanks Reagan for the inspiring sharing

Amazing content Reagan. I loved the example of how girls are taught to be "good girls". Also, girls learn relationships and behavior in the classroom and boys on the playground. I have been and will continue to share this talk with all my girlfriends. Thank you so much for your courage!!

Reagan just addressed a problem that has baffled women in business for decades! Her presentation is woven together with engaging storytelling, transparency, and hard earned expertise. She has taken something seemingly so complex and broken it down to a powerful, simple principal. Take a listen - it will definitely shift your perspective and potentially your career!

I loved this. It is speaking about how women can get promoted, but It speaks to me personally as a leader. Relational Courage!!!!!! We all need it! But it was really helpful for me also as someone who supervises women and wants to see them advance and be everything God has created them to be.
