Is the new prototype Nissan Frontier the Hardbody Edition? Of all the mid sized trucks, the Frontier is my favorite. I always look at interior images of the Frontier because it reminds me of how trucks used to be. A truck should be a Swiss Army knife that is capable of doing everything you need, and the Nissan Frontier is a "classic" truck in a modern skin. Even if the Frontier isn't "class leading," it doesn't matter because you can customize it with an aftermarket suspension and make it more capable for towing or off-road. My favorite part of the Frontier is the naturally aspirated V6, which I think is necessary for a truck. You can squeeze more power out of a 4 cylinder with turbos, but then the 4 cylinder is working at maximum capacity. When a motor is working at maximum, it puts extra stress on the engine components. If you want more power from the Nissan Frontier 6 cylinder engine you can add a Supercharger by Z1 Off-Road. I see Nissan Titans at construction sites with Ford F-150s and Chevy Silverados. I saw a Toyota Tundra V8 parked in a driveway, and down the street was a Dodge Dakota Sport. You mentioned the weight of electric trucks but nobody thinks about if their driveway can handle the weight. I deliver to construction sites and new houses have driveways that are built with a thin concrete slab that starts cracking before the house is finished. They don't pack the ground before pouring the driveway and if you buy a heavy electric truck you might need to replace the driveway with a thicker slab of concrete.
I don’t know why they don’t do a Ford Outlaw, that is a great name especially considering they have a ranger. Something fast like a 500hp or 700 hp Bronco Outlaw. Another option is to make the Raptor that and make the current Raptor the Outlaw
I *extensively* tested a Santa Cruz a few weeks ago in CO. Drove over 4,500 miles. Turbo model, but not the Limited. Want to say SEL Premium. We were unable to get sticker, or anything close to it. I think we were around 22.5mpg with 95%+ highway driving. Transmission had no issues, I actually liked it a lot. Thing was a killer in the snow, EXCEPT, if the front end gets caked in a bunch of wintery muck, you lose all your driving aids. If I lose lane-centering, whatever. But it literally lost ABS every time this would happen, including times where it would have seriously helped. The turbo engine is strong, even at the summit of Pike's Peak. The turbo just takes more effort to spool up, but once it does, you don't seem to be down on power. If I could get a loaded one, brand new, for around $36k, I would probably buy one. Sticker is like $42k. My dad bought a brand new, well-equipped F-150 in 2019 for like $39k. I know the market has changed, but I'm not willing to get screwed that hard and fast.
Nathan, I know you love the “value” options. But, do you consider residual value? I had a bad trade in experience on the new Frontier. Sure, I didn’t keep it long. But, it is not a great value holder.
You got to be kicking yourself for not getting the frontier cause you had to bend your elbows. So reliable. So affordable. That wiring harness working now?
Cars have been using 12 volt batteries for 75 years. And they're using more tech than ever, even base model trucks. If your new vehicle seems to have electrical glitches or bugs, see if you're able to test out a 12-volt battery with a higher CCA rating. Even if it's not in winter time, there's a lot of first hand accounts indicating that it can clear up bugs on certain vehicles.
@@gmercede Yes. Several higher end vehicles, namely the Italian & British brands as well as Audi, have had many reports of bugs, glitches, system issues, ECU failures, etc. Reports that have spiked for about the past decade. These premium/lux vehicles were some of the first adoptors of electronics and tech (the first to run into these problems). While some of it is undoubtedly poor wiring design and programming, part of it is bulky code running on cheap processors spread throughout the vehicle. Add low current into an already complex system making do with so little, startup will get unnecessary stress. Could be the code doesn't get a signal in time and so keeps the camera off. Worst case scenario, not enough CCA can cause a dip and voltage at startup, and any sort of rapid flux in volts can damage the system. Doesn't help that batteries are often where manufacturers cheap out.
I would think with hybrids the larger they are the fuel saved falls under the law of diminishing returns . So perhaps the Tacoma might get a better result . Same battery , electric motor as the Tundra correct ?

You could put nismo upgrades on the frontier & have a far more capable truck for much less $ than most aev equipped vehicles the nismo upgrades wake the frontier up
I can't wait till a auto manufacturer come out with a factory truck with big enough lift and 40inch tires. I really want a raptor or zr2 large/extra large SUV, Chevy suburban zr2 or Ford expedition.
I feel that the problem with electric trucks off road is that if 800hp is split between the 4 wheels, and two of them are in the air, the available power halved. With full lockers on conventional trucks, the power is distributed to all of the wheels at all times.
I would rather have the affordable over the best, disappointing, or the most surprising trucks of 2023. If Honda Ridgeline pulls out the CyberTruck. There would be dead silence. If Ford Maverick pulls out the CyberTruck. There would be immediate cheers and celebration😂. Ford F series 2019-2024: Found On the Road Dead! 😂
I wouldn’t buy any diesel vehicles, I have a bad feeling that VW and Ram are just the first 2 companies fined for cheating on EPA emissions and will NOT be the last. I can’t wait to see the results from the Post-recall updated Ram. I have a feeling it will lose some power. 😢
I wanted a regular cab stubby new dodge. They stop making regular cab in that format. Only the classic gets that treatment. I was very disappointed. There are no sport truck options in 2 Wheel Dr. regular cab.
Great shows guys and going back to the hydrogen I think this will be the future in bridging ICE with EV. And hydrogen has been under development for over 20 years for some reason it just wasn’t given the attention EV was given.
Have you thought of who would build out the charging network? It cost about 5x the cost of EV charging stations. You can forget about charging from home or solar. Hydrogen vehicles are 100% EV with power from hydrogen fuel ceĺls.
My best guess would be something like propane fill stations. Yes I know it’s going be work, but everything at the start is also. Plus if we talking about the environment hydrogen way way cleaner than mining the metals required for EV…plus not to mention the disposals of the EV batteries once they’ve outlived their life
@lulop022882 Did you study how hydrogen fuel cell works? Hydrogen cars are EV. The batteries are charged by the hydrogen fuel cells instead of plugging in. You did not understand the technology before you posted your comment. Today's hydrogen is not clean. 90% are made from natural gas. Using electrolysis is very expensive and high energy consumption. Hydrogen is not environmentally friendly. A lot of people don't understand.
As far as the large trucks if they convert the electric truck with a diesel generator it can be modified to run on l.n.g or propane & should be much cheaper than hydrogen & be very low emissions with nat gas & zero with propane why does no one even talk about that
Buying the single cab V6 ram pickup doesn’t make any sense to me for $40K when you can buy a really nice Ridgeline for 40K that tows the same and fits more people and has way more features. I guess if the main purpose for it is off road use you could make an argument for the ram but that’s about it.
So you recommend the Jeep Gladiator and the Nissan frontier, both have scored as the least 10 reliable vehicles in consumer reports. As far as any Ford...Ford just builds crap! Ford's pickups are just expensive crap!
Funny, 2023 F-150 not recommended to buy, quality issues. I know this is 2023 truck, but the 2024 Silverado doesn't offer a panorama roof, or does it? Silverado's are having roof slit issues. If 23 is a carrier over to the 24, you could have the same problem. Lifter deactivation kills the joy of owning a Chevy/GMC because of the mass issues they have had. Also kets be honest, the GMC/Chevy front fascia is ugly. Can't Ford and GM make headlights that are not a double decket? Its 2023-24, come on!! Happy I didn't buy from Ford or Government Motors.
If people would stop overpaying for these trucks… the prices wouldn’t be so bad cause they would be forced to lower prices or go out of business… I’m sorry but even if I had all the money in the world I’m not gonna pay 50k+ for a truck lol.
Waiting on the rear view camera to be fixed is really not big of a deal, 15 years ago most cars didn't even have a back-up cam. My son's 2023 Canyon has the one of the best camera resolution in the industry, IMO, much better than my Ford Lariat or my wife's Porsche.
When you're paying $40k for a vehicle everything better work as intended, especially a federally mandated device. 15 yrs ago vehicles were less regulated so less expensive.
With the new Ranger you can get a 2.7 liter V6 and 3.0 liter V6 and 2.3 liter 4 Cylinder I wish you say Ford has the V6s instead of saying with Ford going to what Toyota is doing but Toyota is going turbo 4 cylinder engines but with Ford you can get V6s or V8s in the full size Ford us not going to all 4 Cylinder engines with everything.
Yeah, but I want a car that doesn't nickel and dim me to death, so Tacoma all the way. Also the V6 Tundra isn't a 4-cylinder . Also if you compare apples to apples, the hybrid 4-wheel drive Lariat get it's butt handed to by the Tundra Hybrid that tows about 3500lbs more.
These truck prices lead me to believe they’re made out of unobtainium.
