    Thx Heidi. I have a Seal a Meal sealer and the suction cord works on it also. I just bought the off brand kind and was looking how to use that Lil hand pump. Thx for doing this. As always watching from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. P.S. I bought mine off of Temu Canada. I paid 18.98 Canadian dollars for it.

    This is so funny. I just ordered that same kit a few days ago. It arrived yesterday and I immediately tried it on two jars I had on the counter. You’re right, the vacuum sealer lids are much better than food savers. They come off easily and don’t pull the lid with it. And the hand pump was super easy to use and super effective. Thanks for making this video.

    I LOVE the canister I bought from you at your Etsy shop. I don't even bother using my vacuum sealer to seal jars anymore as I just use the brake bleeder hooked up to your cylinder. I find my vacuum sealer more trouble than it is worth and I get a little arm and hand workout too. Yours puts a much better seal on jars and has sealed 100% of the time.

    Heidi, I purchased this vacuum pump set. I had trouble with the hose hooking up to my Foodsaver, so I just used the hose that came with my Foodsaver and all worked well. It may not have worked because of the operator, but I just took the easy way out. Thank you so much for introducing the hand vacuum pump to us as I could not get the regular size lid to seal with my Foodsaver. I had no trouble with the hand vacuum pump, and was so glad when you showed us how that worked. God bless you for your generosity of sharing your knowledge and hours of research with us. ❤

    I bought that kit also. The pump is the weak link in this system. I ended up buying a break bleeder pump also. I did not have the Food Saver tops or tubing. So it was a good find for me. I put it through 3 long days of use before it broke on me. It was the first days of vacuum sealing of canning jars for me.

It didn’t work and I gave up way too soon. I had the sealer all packaged up to send back TODAY. Sherri! Me too! It's in the drawer because I couldn't get it to seal the jars. My Food Saver has the little oval shaped accessory to seal the reusable zip-lock Food Saver bag, and that shape doesn't work with this type of tube thingy. My daughter has a different model that it will work on so I thought I'd just use hers when I wanted to seal jars. I thought the thing was a piece of crap. Turns out it was an I- D -TEN - T problem. ME! LOL!!!! (IDIOT)

    Heidi, I have wanted a foodsaver for a long time but it's just too expensive. I have been having to dehydrate my herbs and vegetables and just put them in Ziploc bags or jars with a little dry rice to help with humidity. Of course they don't last as long as they should. I just ordered these and it's going to be so helpful, especially when I get to move to my off grid property. Thank you! Texas Deb ❤️🙏

      The Anova Culinary Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro is the top-rated one in many comparisons I’ve seen. It was FAR cheaper buying directly from them than Amazon, etc. I got it on sale AND another 25% off. It comes with a hose and a roll of bags. I also got free shipping. It was over a $100 less with taxes than buying from Amazon. I paid around $117 total and then got a partial refund for the missing hose after all the back and forth. (Mine arrived without the hose and they said I could send it all back and get a new one. I didn’t bother.)
      It works great and you can use it over and over again without it needing cooling off time. You can use various sizes and it has a built-in cutter. They have ready to use bags and the rolls where you can make your own sizes. You can use it one-handed.
      FYI: The universal hose adaptor from the Amazon kits will not work with the Anova port. They are too big. I’m trying to find something that will work.

    Hi Guys, ...
    Did you miss me? AGGHHH!!!!
    Been gone from the interweb for over a year! And I wasn't in jail either. Just the joys of the Gulag of Poverty. *sigh*
    I was Doneworking and Bendover before that, ... and just a pain, ... But I lost all my passwords and started new.
    The new food saver I got has a special hose and the regular hose will not work with it. The special hose breaks the first time you use it and the replacement is $6 plus $24 for delivery.
    I bought an old food saver for $10 for vacuuming my jars. It takes any old hose and I'm happy.
    I don't know how many brake bleeders I broke and finally is was my hand that was breaking. I did cases.
    I was so food secure I took the winter off prepping. The pandemic helped eh?
    Mind you I'm back at it.

      @@RainCountryHomestead Profit corrupts all it is applied to.
      I was trying to explain to a farmer friend who had just sold a good crop of grains and was pleased to pay off the "operating loan" with lots left over for birthdays, Christmas, etc.
      I said all profit is shit, (excuse the rough talk, but we were standing in the stuff) He says "what are you talking about now?
      I said you will get another operational loan right?
      Yes, ... he says.
      And you'll use that loan to provide the profits for everyone in the country in the form of "for profit" fuel, "for profit" electricity, "for profit food, "For profit Gifts for the kids, "for profit" parts and "for profit" wages.
      Sure he said, that's the way it works.
      So I said, "Look, you sold the grain to the grain elevator for profit, then the elevator sold to the cereal factory for some more profit. Then the factory sold to the wholesalers for another stab at profit, then the wholesaler sold to the retailer to squeeze more profit.
      He was "sure, what's wrong with that"?
      I said, Well I went to the store bought the cereal and turned all that profit into shit. All profit is shit.
      He laughed, ...
      I said profit is but a method to concentrate the abundance of our world into the hands and control of the few, the elites, the entitled, and the great winners in a perverted world of win/lose, ... he understood that but didn't like it at all.
      So I rubbed it in and said, Only lies need the constant expenditure of your time and energy to exist, ... right Santa?
      And profit is a lie needing the constant spending of our time and energy.
      He gave up and said, you're crazy, ... and so it goes.
      I'm working on a community owned 'Not For Profit" Economic Win/Win based in time alone, backed by the abundance of our world, and built on a foundation of truth and reality. Everything we require can be calculated in the time it takes to produce an exchanged equally for all things "time" produces.
      Think "the abundance of our world transformed into the worth and value of our time and energy and kept in circulation for the benefit of all of society, not just the elites, ... this worth and value would be "working" and become "stable"
      Stable is as good as it gets in reality. This "stable" worth and value kept working would compound yearly until the future child is born rich instead of a slave to the lie of eternal growth and profit.
      Right? you can't get your spent time and energy back in any form except memories and they too die with you. It's only common sense that the worth and value reflect this reality and do the same.
      Look at how fast food turns to poop and how slow a well built house rots.
      Everything once produced begins to lose value over time. Our worth and value MUST reflect this reality and do the same.
      But no one gets it yet and that's OK, ... I'm doing it for the pure innocent potential of future children anyway.
      I don't really believe the poor perverted people of the win/lose will make it anyway and that's a good thing because they can't get in the way like they do now.
      Oops! I'm ranting again.
      But really, I'm "planting" the seeds of Win/Win, ... dirty job but someone has to do it. It's only a paradigm shift from "for profit", to, "Not For Profit". From win/lose to Win/Win.
      And it's going to happen. "If I have my way, no child of the future will be born owing the debt of lies and corruption. Born a slave to their ancestors greed and ignorance. No child of the future will grow up to realise that they "serve" their society better as a filthy economic loser than a good and decent person, ... I'm shooting for the moon eh?
      I understand why people think I'm crazy but the future will know that the work and the ways of the Win/Win was born of their ancestors filth and failure and not their wisdom or honour.
      And that would be ME! the filth and failure part, ... lol
      I'm planting the seeds of Win/Win, ... please forgive me my trespass eh?
      Have a great one.

      No, the regular mouth in the foodsaver brand is just not constructed well so it takes a bit more to get it to work. Some people will invert a second canning lid on top of the on on the jar before putting the sealer top on, this helps add more pressure so it seals better

    Good morning Heidi- I have a similar version, with no brand name on the box. My tops do have the extended handle, like the Food Saver tops, so your viewers may want to search that configuration on Amazon. It works great, however the regular mouth gasket does not extend past the cover. I have a Food Saver, but wanted this for camping and also if we lost power. In my opinion it was worth the $20.00 and is made in China. This is coming in handy so I don't have to haul out my Food Saver to reseal my jars of oatmeal and herbs. Thanks for this video. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I just vacuum sealed 2 pint jars of raw egg powder and 1 pint of dehydrated hanger steak strips.
    I picked up 10 doz eggs from Amish today. All the cleaner ones will be water glassed (forgot which gentleman I learned that from on TH-cam) and the rest will be dehydrated to make more raw powder.
    I didn’t get the brand of vac sealer you linked to as the one I got had a bit better reviews. The regular size that I used tonight sealed up very nicely. I added 2 small moisture absorbers to each jar just in case. I don’t want to lose the time or money by being careless and I figure it’s a cheap enough thing to add as an extra measure.

    Ty Heidi! This is great as I've also seen it on other's videos also with great reviews so I'm going to order this right now even tho I have the food savers & brake bleeder as I trust you the most and having arthritis issues I need the easiest & lightweight things out there. One question.... Either I didn't catch you correctly cuz you were talking kinda fast for me or I misunderstood...... I heard you say that kit also came with a few metal lids & not good for canning but did you also say that those lids won't work to vacuum seal? If so.... Wondering why they would even bother sending them. ???

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not use them because they are just cheap Chinese made lids that are not made well so I would not use them for canning myself.
      ON a side note in reference to me talking too fast, you can always slow down the video speed and I explain how in this video: th-cam.com/video/nRjpE1xQwAo/w-d-xo.html

      Ty & especially for how to slow it down... Never knew that could be done so much appreciated. I don't do canning... Just dehydrating so I wondered why not being able to use those but got my answer when I ordered it which stated that they were just "testers"....so that explains that.

    With the plastic vacuum pump, I found that the cross-piece at the end of the pump shaft was the weak point, both the handle and the plastic pin that holds it in place. When those broke, I bought a short section of one inch wooden dowel, drilled holes in the dowel for the pump shaft, and a carefully selected screw that fit neatly through the remaining mounting pin hole. after sanding, the dowel's a more comfortable fit for my hand, and lets me exert strength more confidently when pulling a vacuum with the pump.
    When the first pump failed, I purchased the same style and immediately put the dowel on in place of the existing handle. It's been working fine for me for about 3 years. I've found them bundled with vacuum food bags, which are also very nice to have, and often work repeatedly.

    Excellent video Heidi ! I've used the rechargeable foodsaver handheld for yrs but I'm on my 2nd one and the battery eventually doesn't hold a charge very long. I might use it for days, several times, I can go 6 mos and not use it (not good for rechargeable batteries). I'm so done with rechargeable vacuum sealers, they're easier but...........was looking to see if there were any reviews on a hand pump. I trust your opinion and I just ordered. FYI to anyone reading this, one of her links leads to a set that is only $9.99.

    Will the off brand set work with the spaghetti type lids?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the mouth size. Sealers like this, even the foodsaver brand, are made to go with regular or wide mouth mason jars only, If the recycled jar just happens to have one of those two mouth sizes, yes it will work, otherwise you need to use the chamber I showed in the video or something like it

    • @elizabethcope1502
      @elizabethcope1502 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes you can use a silicon ring that sits on ridge beneath opening of jars. The food savor fits over the lid & rests on the ring. This enables you to than seal the jar. The instant coffee jars I buy work this way.

  • @jamestriplett790
    @jamestriplett790 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A tip to make the sealing easier. Go to the hardware store and get a short length of 1/4" OD flexible clear tubing. It is sold by the foot. Insert the white Food Saver fittings onto the kit tube. Insert one of the white fittings tightly inside the 1/4"OD tube. Insert the other end of the 1/4"OD piece of tube into the hand pump hole and leave it in place permanently. The white plastic Food Saver fitting can be inserted into the regular and wide mouth sealer lids. Sure makes it a lot easier than having to push down tightly on the hand pump to sealer top.

I did not want to go through the hassle of a return, and have been searching for a hand held that I can seal jars with. I think this will work great. I appreciate the information you share on your channel.

  • @winter873

    Thank you for showing us how to use that. Mine came with no instructions and i never used one before. I ended up using the hose attachment in the jar and just sticking the hose into the pump and wrapping plastic wrap around the hose and pump to make a seal. I mean it worked, but now I feel so silly, so thank you...lol

    I bought this set and I love it. I do have trouble with the pump tho. But I also have trouble with my brake bleeder. I love the sealer tops and think they are much better than the ones from food saver. I had bought two sets of the food saver ones and keep having major issue with them not sealing. I had given up trying to seal my dehydrated goods until now.
