This video could not have been more perfectly timed. I had recently bought the very same hand pump vacuum sealer. I tried it thinking that the tube should be used. It didn’t work and I gave up way too soon. I had the sealer all packaged up to send back TODAY. BEFORE GOING TO WORK, I saw this video, clicked on it, retried it using the pump directly on the lid and…Voilà, it works! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Sherri! Me too! It's in the drawer because I couldn't get it to seal the jars. My Food Saver has the little oval shaped accessory to seal the reusable zip-lock Food Saver bag, and that shape doesn't work with this type of tube thingy. My daughter has a different model that it will work on so I thought I'd just use hers when I wanted to seal jars. I thought the thing was a piece of crap. Turns out it was an I- D -TEN - T problem. ME! LOL!!!! (IDIOT)
@@marylaborde6151 Agree with the perfect timing-just unboxed mine, thought it was missing a piece. After watching the video and trying it-works like a champ! Thank you!
This is so funny. I just ordered that same kit a few days ago. It arrived yesterday and I immediately tried it on two jars I had on the counter. You’re right, the vacuum sealer lids are much better than food savers. They come off easily and don’t pull the lid with it. And the hand pump was super easy to use and super effective. Thanks for making this video.
I literally ordered that manual pump set from Amazon just minutes before I watched your video. Thank you so much for making me feel better about ordering it.
God Bless you for teaching me this. I couldnt afford the brake bleeder n all. I had watched a video of yours teaching me to get the air out last week.....I didnt know I was supposed to do that. SO THANK YOU
Heidi, I purchased this vacuum pump set. I had trouble with the hose hooking up to my Foodsaver, so I just used the hose that came with my Foodsaver and all worked well. It may not have worked because of the operator, but I just took the easy way out. Thank you so much for introducing the hand vacuum pump to us as I could not get the regular size lid to seal with my Foodsaver. I had no trouble with the hand vacuum pump, and was so glad when you showed us how that worked. God bless you for your generosity of sharing your knowledge and hours of research with us. ❤
I love this video! It was so helpful because the paper instructions were not really any help to me & I had a terrible time with it until she explained it & showed how to do it❤️
Received my small vacuum sealer chamber vacuum. Am so very pleased with it. I have received a number of store jars and am going to use them for dry storage to free up some canning jars so I do not have to buy so many. Thank you soo much and may our Father richly bless you both
I LOVE the canister I bought from you at your Etsy shop. I don't even bother using my vacuum sealer to seal jars anymore as I just use the brake bleeder hooked up to your cylinder. I find my vacuum sealer more trouble than it is worth and I get a little arm and hand workout too. Yours puts a much better seal on jars and has sealed 100% of the time.
Thanks for your help and advice! I just finished “canning” 1# egg noodles, 2# rice, 2# kidney beans, 2# navy beans, 4# lentils, 4# sugar, 6# yellow split peas. Not only does my pantry look more organized, I have greater confidence in the safety and freshness of these dry products.
I ordered this set & love it! Purchased smaller diameter tubing at Lowe's to attach to the pumper that fits inside the larger tube that came with vacuum chamber & brake bleeder.
God bless you 🙏. I love that you do all this while leading a normal life. Having your grandson right there yet you stay so calm...awesome 👏👏👏👏. Love you girl ❤️. Thank you.
I have that setup with that little hand pump. Tried it 3 times, earlier today really spent sone time on it. Nothing worked. Then tried like you did with no hoses and that was it. Thank you. I was ready to throw it in the garbage.
Oh I'm so glad you showed the process. I just bought this little kit and couldn't figure out the tubing part so wasn't getting a good seal. With the addition of adding an inverted lid I can finally handpump these dry goods closed. Thanks!
Thanks Heidi!🙂 This is a great idea! Back in the day, I only bought a wide mouth attachment and it doesn't work for beans anymore. Time for a new one and the price is great! Also, for this ol fart, the break bleeder is a bit of a challenge with pints and half-pints (even with an extra can or jar). Jax was super good! 🥰 Love and blessings! 💜
I considered it....already had the brake bleeder on the way. Even though my hand hurt afterwards due to arthritis. I now use both hands and it's not so bad. I followed the recommendation of jamming the food saver attachment hose into the brake bleeder hose. It works perfectly. Blessings
Thank you for sharing this! I just ordered my kit and am excited to add it to my collection. You just never know when you will be without electricity and need to have something you can still use in that case.
Thanks Heidi for sharing this information, I thank it will be a great addition to have. Your grandson was sooooo good, he’s also adorable 🥰 God bless your family🙏
Heidi, that is Awesome! both my food saver sealers don't work. I will have to buy one of these Heidi. Hey to that handsome grandson Jax, he is being so good, and I love hearing him hum.
So very happy I decided to search this!! Was about to give up on sealing jars! I ordered the kit and it wasn't working until I tried it your way without the hose. Thank you so much for making this video:)
I've got a brake bleeder pump but also bought one of those little hand pumps that came with 30 of the heavy duty vacuum seal double Ziploc type bags. It was also about $20.. pretty handy
With the plastic vacuum pump, I found that the cross-piece at the end of the pump shaft was the weak point, both the handle and the plastic pin that holds it in place. When those broke, I bought a short section of one inch wooden dowel, drilled holes in the dowel for the pump shaft, and a carefully selected screw that fit neatly through the remaining mounting pin hole. after sanding, the dowel's a more comfortable fit for my hand, and lets me exert strength more confidently when pulling a vacuum with the pump. When the first pump failed, I purchased the same style and immediately put the dowel on in place of the existing handle. It's been working fine for me for about 3 years. I've found them bundled with vacuum food bags, which are also very nice to have, and often work repeatedly.
Thank you so much, Heidi. I've been wondering if this worked. I still have a Food Saver but it's a bit of a hassle to take out every time I have just one or two jars to seal. This is so much easier. I'm buying the set plus an extra pump for my vacuum chamber I got from your husband. Love your channel and all the wonderful info you share.
I got this after seeing on your Chanel and love it. The food saver battery doesn’t last and I don’t hear the lids pop when sucking the air out but on this one I do.
Thx Heidi. I have a Seal a Meal sealer and the suction cord works on it also. I just bought the off brand kind and was looking how to use that Lil hand pump. Thx for doing this. As always watching from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. P.S. I bought mine off of Temu Canada. I paid 18.98 Canadian dollars for it.
Can i purchase the jar vacuum hand pump by itself? if so, how much does it cost? asked on July 23, 2022 Yes. It costs$10.00 Jewel Oliver · July 24, 2022
Thank You Mrs Heidi.... I think I'm going to get one... I currently use the brake bleeder method... Per your advice 😃😃.... God Bless you and your family from middle GA 🙏 Kendra. Jackson was such a Good Baby😉😉🤗🤗🤗
Heidi, I have wanted a foodsaver for a long time but it's just too expensive. I have been having to dehydrate my herbs and vegetables and just put them in Ziploc bags or jars with a little dry rice to help with humidity. Of course they don't last as long as they should. I just ordered these and it's going to be so helpful, especially when I get to move to my off grid property. Thank you! Texas Deb ❤️🙏
I will never buy another FoodSaver machine, I no longer have need for them and got tired of having them break down every two years and needing to buy another
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you for your comment. I have been going back and forth on getting thr food saver or not. I saw that little pump with the jar lids yesterday and wondered if that pump worked well. Take you for a very timely review!
The Anova Culinary Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro is the top-rated one in many comparisons I’ve seen. It was FAR cheaper buying directly from them than Amazon, etc. I got it on sale AND another 25% off. It comes with a hose and a roll of bags. I also got free shipping. It was over a $100 less with taxes than buying from Amazon. I paid around $117 total and then got a partial refund for the missing hose after all the back and forth. (Mine arrived without the hose and they said I could send it all back and get a new one. I didn’t bother.) It works great and you can use it over and over again without it needing cooling off time. You can use various sizes and it has a built-in cutter. They have ready to use bags and the rolls where you can make your own sizes. You can use it one-handed. FYI: The universal hose adaptor from the Amazon kits will not work with the Anova port. They are too big. I’m trying to find something that will work.
That's a Great demo. I have a Foodsaver, that came with an attachment, but it says it's for those bags with the Circle on them, like a 1 way valve thingy, I haven't tried it yet. TFS RC, & take care everyone. ❤🙂🐶
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I just vacuum sealed 2 pint jars of raw egg powder and 1 pint of dehydrated hanger steak strips. I picked up 10 doz eggs from Amish today. All the cleaner ones will be water glassed (forgot which gentleman I learned that from on TH-cam) and the rest will be dehydrated to make more raw powder. I didn’t get the brand of vac sealer you linked to as the one I got had a bit better reviews. The regular size that I used tonight sealed up very nicely. I added 2 small moisture absorbers to each jar just in case. I don’t want to lose the time or money by being careless and I figure it’s a cheap enough thing to add as an extra measure.
Good morning Heidi- I have a similar version, with no brand name on the box. My tops do have the extended handle, like the Food Saver tops, so your viewers may want to search that configuration on Amazon. It works great, however the regular mouth gasket does not extend past the cover. I have a Food Saver, but wanted this for camping and also if we lost power. In my opinion it was worth the $20.00 and is made in China. This is coming in handy so I don't have to haul out my Food Saver to reseal my jars of oatmeal and herbs. Thanks for this video. Good to hear your evaluation.
Thank you for this video! I have a Brake bleeder but I found it very hard on my wrist even when I do it the way suggested (using a hard surface when I pump ) This little pump may be the answer! 😊👍
God is amazing and works through all his children in ways we do not understand. Was just looking at these and now I have information to consider more thoughtfully.
I got this exact set about a month or so ago, havent used it yet. Im happy that itll work though. Im about to start using it alot so this video came in super handy for me.
thanks for sharing...BUT the brake bleeder info you passed on is now how I seal all my dry goods jars - don't even use my foodsaver anymore - Heidi thank you
Thank you for showing us how to use that. Mine came with no instructions and i never used one before. I ended up using the hose attachment in the jar and just sticking the hose into the pump and wrapping plastic wrap around the hose and pump to make a seal. I mean it worked, but now I feel so silly, so thank you...lol
Nice! I have the brake bleeder and didn't have the bucks to buy the chambers yet. I also have the Food Saver tops even though I have a sealer that's not a food saver, but the food saver tops seem work with my sealer; I lucked out on that one. I think I'll get that package with the little pump and see how it goes. Great video with really good tips! Blessings all 🥰
A tip to make the sealing easier. Go to the hardware store and get a short length of 1/4" OD flexible clear tubing. It is sold by the foot. Insert the white Food Saver fittings onto the kit tube. Insert one of the white fittings tightly inside the 1/4"OD tube. Insert the other end of the 1/4"OD piece of tube into the hand pump hole and leave it in place permanently. The white plastic Food Saver fitting can be inserted into the regular and wide mouth sealer lids. Sure makes it a lot easier than having to push down tightly on the hand pump to sealer top.
I must have a different brand of vacuum sealer with the pump, my tops have a square grip which is much easier to get the tops off. It would be nice to get a second pump just in case. They are nice!
The hand pumps work great I still recommend putting in an oxygen absorber before pumping. The price of 100 oxygen absorbers ($8) far surpasses The price of losing valuable grains due to spoilage. Great video by the way. God bless
I get that but I have been doing this for many years without an oxygen absorber with no issues. I still see it as a total waste of money to add the O2 absorber but to each their own
Thank you! The first link was sold out so I decided to try the second link. I have been wanting/needing something like this, but I'm on a very strict budget. Praying this will work because this is my first year drying herbs that I've grown. Not many, but some mints and mullein. Thank you again and God bless❤
I literally just bought the set she was reviewing I was pulling it out of the box to test it out when I got the notification for this video and it really does work great
I bought that kit also. The pump is the weak link in this system. I ended up buying a break bleeder pump also. I did not have the Food Saver tops or tubing. So it was a good find for me. I put it through 3 long days of use before it broke on me. It was the first days of vacuum sealing of canning jars for me.
I bought this set and I love it. I do have trouble with the pump tho. But I also have trouble with my brake bleeder. I love the sealer tops and think they are much better than the ones from food saver. I had bought two sets of the food saver ones and keep having major issue with them not sealing. I had given up trying to seal my dehydrated goods until now.
I just got mine last week, it came with an extra larger tube about 6 inches. It fits over one end of the tubing and insert the other end in the pump is the only way I found to use it.
Thank you for this review! I have the Food Saver products but the hose that came with the kit does not fit snugly into the Food Saver unit. I did not want to go through the hassle of a return, and have been searching for a hand held that I can seal jars with. I think this will work great. I appreciate the information you share on your channel.
Excellent video Heidi ! I've used the rechargeable foodsaver handheld for yrs but I'm on my 2nd one and the battery eventually doesn't hold a charge very long. I might use it for days, several times, I can go 6 mos and not use it (not good for rechargeable batteries). I'm so done with rechargeable vacuum sealers, they're easier but...........was looking to see if there were any reviews on a hand pump. I trust your opinion and I just ordered. FYI to anyone reading this, one of her links leads to a set that is only $9.99.
Pump and seal vacuum on Amazon. Manual pump. This is perfect for those hard to seal jars like those giant pickle jars. You will love love love. Totally reusable. I have Lupus and very nice for my hands.
I used ur link below for Amazon to order the jar sealers with manual pump kit. I ordered two different kits. I wasn't sure if they would give you some type of credit for my purchase or not. If you are supposed to get any credits from my purchase using ur link, they didn't share that information with me once my order was complete. And I didn't know these other types was available. So thank you for all the information you've shared here in your video.
I'm 80 years old and my vacuum sealers aren't working to suck the air out of the jars so I put my belt on it and I suck and seal it with my mouth so if you haven't got a pump that works just suck on the hose don't take 16 lb of pressure it says I guess I have 16 lb of pressure cuz I have no problems ceiling my jars sucking on the holes just thought I'd give you a heads up case all your equipment breaks
I ordered mine after you or someone showed it ,I think it was you in a previous, I'm so glad I ordered it ,since who knows ,we may need many ways to seal, I did order that set..and I do have arthritis and have been having a harder time using brake bleeder..I am so glad you found just the pumps, I ordered 2 just in case ,looks so much less stress on hands
I almost bought that after watching this video but noticed kits with a rechargeable electric pump included for basically same price. Im giving that a try. I hate getting my big vacuum sealer out to seal 1 jar.
I have an older Food Saver (FM2000) and found out that the hose with two grey ends does NOT work with it. After talking to the very nice FS folks and a store they referred me to that mine requires the hose with one green end. (Look at varieties on Amazon). Neither the FS company nor the retailer had just the correct hose available so I ended up ordering a kit that includes the hand pump. It hasn’t arrived yet but I’m looking forward to successful sealing jars.
Very cool little kit. I'll have to check it out. Question,, your mentioning the dehydrated hamburger meat made me think of this. My hubby has seen that you can 'can' nuts. To make them shelf stable instead of using freezer space. Do you know anything about that? I could really benefit from getting them out of the freezer. We inherited them and the freezer. His mom enjoyed using nuts, and preserving nuts. And no one else in the family wanted them, so I've got tons of them and don't use them a whole lot. Thanks Elizabeth
Yes, I do it all the time. I even did an old video on it but since then went back to vacuum sealing the Brazil nuts when I realized that one jar that went bad had not been resealed. Vacuum sealing fats helps prevent rancidity: th-cam.com/video/voUFhUZ_WdU/w-d-xo.html

I got this exact set about a month or so ago, havent used it yet. Im happy that itll work though. Im about to start using it alot so this video came in super handy for me.
Thanks for the link and information.
thanks for sharing...BUT the brake bleeder info you passed on is now how I seal all my dry goods jars - don't even use my foodsaver anymore - Heidi thank you
Thank you for showing us how to use that. Mine came with no instructions and i never used one before. I ended up using the hose attachment in the jar and just sticking the hose into the pump and wrapping plastic wrap around the hose and pump to make a seal. I mean it worked, but now I feel so silly, so thank you...lol
Thank you, just ordered it. 😁😁😁😁😁
I just purchased also as backup if power is out or food saver dies. Ty
Great review
I must have a different brand of vacuum sealer with the pump, my tops have a square grip which is much easier to get the tops off. It would be nice to get a second pump just in case. They are nice!
Yes, I found those after shooting the video and they are linked in t he description box as well
The hand pumps work great I still recommend putting in an oxygen absorber before pumping.
I literally just bought the set she was reviewing I was pulling it out of the box to test it out when I got the notification for this video and it really does work great
Cool!
Thanks for sharing this. I have been using mine almost daily so far it has not broke and I have had it for about a month now
I bought this set and I love it.
Oh my...last night I finally ordered a break bleeder and the lids. One day and I could have gotten this! Lol
I just got mine last week, it came with an extra larger tube about 6 inches. It fits over one end of the tubing and insert the other end in the pump is the only way I found to use it.
Thank you for this. I couldn’t figure it out on my own! 🙄🥴
Enjoyed it a lot! Thanks for the tips! 👍👍👍👍
Thank you, Heidi, I'm trying to understand mine. It sealed the first four jars and then...no more. Love (tTt)
Just bought that exact set!
Hope to see an update in a year on usage of this jar sealer pump verses the brake bleed hand air pump, as to durability of this video pump. thanks
Yes, that is the plan is to keep everyone updated on how long it lasts
Thank you for this review! I have the Food Saver products but the hose that came with the kit does not fit snugly into the Food Saver unit. I did not want to go through the hassle of a return, and have been searching for a hand held that I can seal jars with. I think this will work great. I appreciate the information you share on your channel.
I bought the generic ones and they work pretty good
Hi Heidi 👋
I have those!! I love it! ❤️
Yes, I do get credit from purchases through those links
✨✨💕thanks again for sharing this information with us.
Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thank you for this tip. I have used it several times now and it works great.
