If you have the original VP05 and it still works - awesome - it's fine.
Here are my choices in order:

    👉VP06+ Handheld → amzn.to/3PZ7JNM
This one often has a coupon attached, so be sure to use it!
    👉Hurrikane vacuum sealer → amzn.to/3PU1Lh5
    👉Daika Manual Jar Sealer → amzn.to/46xaOfg

I just have to say, I ordered one of these yesterday. It came today. And I LOVE IT!!!! VP06+ I opened it immediately and it was so easy to use! I have terrible hands and wrists and I worried that I wouldn't be able to get it on and off of the jars easily. Let me tell you! Easier than getting the lid off a child proof med bottle! It is just so easy, hardly any wrist movement or pressure needed to use this. I would recommend it to anyone who has problems with their hands and wrists. Thank you for sharing. Catherine

It's so good to see these devices in action. My vp06 is a life-style upgrade, I have not needed my brake bleeder since I purchased it. The vp06 also fits in a convenient drawer if stored as two parts. The feature I want most in a hand-held vacuum sealer is a POWER CORD that accesses INSTANT power from a wall socket. Devices of any kind that require battery management/monitoring are becoming more of a nuisance than an asset. For now, I am grateful to have the vp06 with brake bleeder backup and grateful that Darcy is keeping us up to date on what the market offers. Many thanks to you!

Thank you, Darcy! I like the idea of the manual one, will be on my wishlist, because it takes no electricity. I've been looking for ways to reseal recycled jars with rubber seals in lid (ex.pasta sauce). I bought avid armor vacuum food containers after watching a yt review, can't remember who. Game changer, sealed the jars, it fits the foodsaver hose.... Now you got me thinking I have to play and see if canning jars will seal. I got tired of using my canning jars up when I have so many recycled jars.
Edit. Put jar with lid, ring on loose to hold flat, worked.

It doesn't always work with the vacuum sealers - and if I have one that routinely doesn't work with the small lid, and find one that does, I'm going with the less tedious option. That's why I tested.

  • @solanisomeni
    @solanisomeni ปีที่แล้ว +1

I use the break bleeder and am really happy with how it seals tight. I'll be honest and admit, I have not tried any of the other handheld vacuum sealers, other than my regular large vacuum sealer that I use when vacuum sealing the food bags, then heat seals the bags. That thing does not work at all for me when it comes to vacuum sealing jars. Don't know why, since it's perfect when sealing the bags....??!
Thank you for breaking down the different types of hand held vacuum sealers. There are so many different types that have popped up just this past year.
Me however, I think I'll stick with the break bleeder. It works as I want it too and requires no electricity, if that day ever comes that we can't recharge something or other...

I recently got one of the black VPO6 pumps like you demonstrated and what I've been doing is let it pump until it TURNS OFF. I get a great vaccum seal every time. I only use large mouth jars. The small mouth jars will always be harder to seal because there is less surface area (less pounds per square inch) for the evacuated jar to hold the lid in place.

Over time, all those small ones will lose the ability to recharge the battery well, thus losing suction. Newer batteries are being developed all the time with longer life (and shorter cheaper ones, too, unfortunately).

Thank you so much for this information. I don’t vacuum seal very much ( I water bath can and I’m still new to that process ) but I like to vacuum seal things I make in small amounts. Yesterday I tried out a new salsa recipe ( I got 2 - 3/4 full pints) and just put lids then into the fridge. Fast forward to watching this . As soon as your video was over I went and grabbed my VPO5 ( I’ve never read the directions so I had no idea about how long to let it seal) and one of the jars. Now that you explained the timing part I wanted to see if I could seal it being cold and only 3/4 full and like magic it sealed perfectly on the first try. Okay. I got one like the first black one with the jar opener from amazon for $18 today. I tried it with both wide mouth and regular. So far no issue with the wide mouth. With both, it automatically shuts off at 20 seconds. The regular had 2 issues out of 9 for me where the rubber part on the unit folded in as I mounted. That is probably what some people were complaining about in the reviews, but unaware of the simple fix. Also, I found that with the second issue, (I was going nuts with one lid because this is so amazing!) with the same lid, if the seal is worn down a bit, you may have to put some pressure down on the unit when you turn it on or just use a fresh unused lid. Also the only time it went past 20 seconds is when I had issues. Seems like that is an indication when something isn't right, Thank you. This review this help make my decision.

  • @PaulZeeX

18:48 The style of the number 3 option "Daika" manual pump has a design flaw that in my case meant it died after about a year of intermittent use: perhaps < 50 or so uses?
The flaw with my unit was that under full vacuum, the internal O-ring within the inner tube of the pump was pulled away from its intended seating position: this initially jammed the pump, and in trying to diagnose the problem, the O-ring eventually fell out. And because the unit is sealed and can't be disassembled, it can't be reseated or replaced.
You might be able to avoid that through careful use not to over pressure the vacuum: however I'd recommend avoiding this particular style of unit altogether.
There are other manual sealing pump designs that offer unscrewable parts and the ability to replace or reseat the internal O-ring, as well as wash the unit thoroughly. Those are generally a better choice.

I took the plunge and got a garage style 1/2 horsepower dual-stage rotary vane vacuum pump ($130). I use it with the Foodsaver mason jar tops. It's been working great for over two years now, but it does use a small amount of oil that need to be changed once in a while. The advantages are how quickly it does the jars, and I can use it with a vacuum chamber for doing multiple jars or for other projects that need such a pump.

Yep - I'll be doing a chamber style sealer review later when we build one and then do a chamber vac, too. But this is a bit more manageable for folks. I'm glad you have one that works for you!

I also use a dual-stage rotary vane vacuum pump, but it is coupled to a 5 gallon vacuum vessel so I can seal all kinds of jars, including recycled commercial and gallon sized jars. I disagree with the premise that "vacuum sealing is not necessary" as I have preserved things like chips, cereal, cookies, crackers, etc. that have stayed fresh for 5 years. I've only been doing this for 5 years. In a completely oxygen free environment, there is no mechanism for them to go stale as they cannot oxidize. I'm confident that is due to the extremely hard vacuum the dual stage pump offers. So hard that I often cannot twist off a commercial jar lid without punching a hole in it first.

I have the hurrikane sealer and have been using it for about a year. It works great! No issues. I have a freeze dryer and I buy in bulk so I use it ALL the time. It holds a charge for months. I also prefer (personally) the separate sealing lids because I can utilize them with my food saver when I’m sealing dozens of jars after a stock up run. If I didn’t have a food saver I would probably gravitate towards the VP unit you have. This was an interesting and informative video. Well done.

I use hot water and dry them before using on the jar with a cotton towel or Paper Towel on the smaller lids. I think the warming allows the rubber to expand, then when it seals it does so settles. I run into the same issues with my jar lids. Trial and Error you can say.

I just watched your video in which you test six different jar vacuum sealers. Your highest recommendation is for one you call the VPO6+ But when I click on the link, it takes me to an Amazon page where that name is nowhere to be found. FYI. When operating, as the pump evacuates air there is less and less air in the jar that the pump has to push out so there is less load on the motor and it speeds up. When the sound levels off the pump has reached its maximum vacuum and you can shut it off. My knowledge comes from working for a manufacturer of fractional horsepower compressors and vacuum pumps for over 30 years.
