- After the rise and fall of the original handheld vacuum sealer that I love (and still use!), I decided to test out some alternative versions so that I could recommend one to you to use for your dry storage. There were a few clear losers and more than one winner!
📍 LINKS MENTIONED
👉Handheld vacuum sealer → amzn.to/3InayF7 This is the one you see me use in all the videos now. The original #1 was no longer in stock, so I tested this one and it works even better.

👉Daika Manual Jar Sealer → amzn.to/46xaOfg
(ForJars has a version like this, as well, but shipping is expensive unless you combine with other products to get free shipping - forjars.co?sca_ref=1912723.5vNLp0drZl )

If you have the original VP05 and it still works - awesome - it's fine.
Here are my choices in order:
👉VP06+ Handheld → amzn.to/3PZ7JNM
This one often has a coupon attached, so be sure to use it!
👉Hurrikane vacuum sealer → amzn.to/3PU1Lh5
👉Daika Manual Jar Sealer → amzn.to/46xaOfg
I like the performance of the hurrikane in your testing. It's going on my wish list ❤😂
Is your number one choice from company yonktoo?
What brand is the VP06
Will someone help me locate the VP06 +. Unable to find. Thank you
Great comparisons Darcy…TY.💕 I have the VPLO5 and so far no problems. But, I do put some pressure on it, pushing down on it while it’s sealing. I had two of the Food Saver hand held and could NEVER get them to work.😵💫
Best way to test a Vacuum sealer. Seal a jar of marshmallows. I thought they would get small when air is sucked out. Not the case. The puff out. Very fun to watch and try. And marshmallows will last a good while!
What a great tip! Thank you
Marshmallows expand when you dehydrate them too. I would have thought that they would shrink. Gotta try vac sealing some now. 😊
Now that's a question to pose to, I guess, maybe a physicist....? Who woulda thunk that removing air or moisture would cause something to expand rather than contract ? Seems like some law of physics is being broken. 🤔
I love putting a peep in the microwave lol. The birdy turns into a good year blimp.
I have the VP05 model and I absolutely love it. No issues whatsoever. I use it all the time and I always get a great seal. My favorite use is for fresh strawberries. They last so much longer!
Same model I have. I love it.
I have this one and no problems so far. I’ve had it for about 4-5 months
Just got the VP05 but having a problem with accessing large jar size (hard to unlock). Will see if stronger hands can unlock 🤞
Is this safe for non acid foods?
Why did I not think to do that? I keep fresh strawberries constantly because I eat probiotic yogurt with fresh fruit every day for breakfast. (My breakfast is at 2PM daily because I do intermittent fasting.) Thank you for a great tip.
Thank you for doing all the testing. I appreciate the time, effort and sore fingers you must have experienced.
I think it is wise to have a back up sealing system that does not require any kind of charging other than manual strength.
I use the vp06 and have never had a problem with either size. I let the lids sit in hot water, not boiling or simmering, for a couple of minutes, wipe the top of the jars with white vinegar, dry well, then seal them up. Never had a problem....YET.
Me too! Guess we are lucky?
What is the point of drying the jar rims when the lids are wet from the hot water? Thanks.
I can pop the lid off of regular canning jars so that isn't a true test
I love the way you test everything you just do it!!! No frills!
Thank you Darcy we really appreciate your testing and showing us the results.
I have a version of the hand pump (different brand) and I love it. So handy to re-seal jars of dehydrated veggies that are in use.
What is the brand ? I'm researching ways to reseal jars only to extend some shelf life, and save space in an already nearly full freezer.
@@msr1116 I just checked - the brand I bought (in 2022) is no longer available.
@@mizg1595 . .. Oh, I see. Thanks for responding so quickly. My research continues !
I just want to thank you for this video. I ordered the VP06 after watching your recommendations. I love this gadget. After using a brake bleeder and a hand pump, the VP06 is the way to go. It’s simple, quick, and seals every time even with regular size lids. Using my old methods caused me to skip the sealing because it wasn’t worth the effort with poor results. Now I feel like my dried foods will be nutritious a lot longer. Thanks so much. I love your channel because it’s straight to the point and ever so useful. Thanks, Darcy!
I'm glad you're loving it!
Is there a Brand name? I’m searching on Amazon and can’t find a VP 06 plain or Plus. 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for demonstrating all of them. It's good food for thought
Thank you, Darcy! I like the idea of the manual one, will be on my wishlist, because it takes no electricity. I've been looking for ways to reseal recycled jars with rubber seals in lid (ex.pasta sauce). I bought avid armor vacuum food containers after watching a yt review, can't remember who. Game changer, sealed the jars, it fits the foodsaver hose.... Now you got me thinking I have to play and see if canning jars will seal. I got tired of using my canning jars up when I have so many recycled jars.
Edit. Put jar with lid, ring on loose to hold flat, worked.
Mine works great. Used it for 3 years now. Bought a new one 4 months ago. Works fine.
Newbie to freeze drying and jar sealing. Your video was thorough and EXTREMELY helpful!!! I'm so glad I found it! Thank you SO much for posting! God Bless! ♥
WOW! Talk about timing! I was on Amazon and had decided to finally look for a vacuum sealer and went back to your TH-cam channel to see what you recommended again so I wouldn’t get it wrong. And there’s a brand new video! I ordered the VP06+ and it’s supposed to come tomorrow! I’m so excited! I have one of the hand pump ones that will do if the power is out but I got the $5 off coupon and got the one I wanted most! Thank you!!! Your timing is incredible!❤❤❤
Awesome!!!
@@ThePurposefulPantry My next purchase will be the SAFE Mandolin you use now!!! I just sliced the skin off my knuckle off a couple weeks ago. My husband wasn’t happy that I didn’t have my mandolin glove on that you recommended…..I “thought” I didn’t need I didn’t need it…..He asked WHY I wasn’t wearing it…..Ummmm…..He said “Didn’t that Pantry Lady say to use it???” I’m saving for that now. 🤣🤣🤣
LOL yep - use it every single time!
@@ThePurposefulPantry It came, I LOVE it and it works fantastic! SO, after I showed him how great it is he asked where that “Dandy Dasher Dicer” thingy is. I said it’s at AMAZON….He thought I’d ordered it already…it will be here Wednesday…now I need to convince him I NEED a freeze drier….for safety’s sake! 🤣😂🤣
lol Good luck with that!
you said the bad ones suck!!! Aren't they supposed to???!!! LOL😉🤣
lol
What a fabulous review. I’ve been looking for something like this for months
I just got the VPO5 and love it...not one failure, used it all day yesterday...even on the regular mouth jars! Directions said to let it go for 40 seconds which I did but I could tell it was done in 20 secs
I really appreciate the professional presentation style in these videos. Excellent content, concise, no "ums" easy to listen to and great information!
Oh, trust me, there are lots of 'ums'...I just spend hours editing out as many as I can :D
THANK YOU! I so appreciate seeing and hearing all you share. As a newby into much of this I’ve learned many things. Thank you for sharing again 😊
I do alot of 1/2 gallon jars for my freeze dried food and started having issues with the foodsaver ones not sealing. I got a new vac sealer and now they are working good again. Thanks so much for doing this. Would be nice having a hand held and not having to deal with attachments.
Over time, all those small ones will lose the ability to recharge the battery well, thus losing suction. Newer batteries are being developed all the time with longer life (and shorter cheaper ones, too, unfortunately).
I have the white one piece and it works perfectly never turns off early
I use the break bleeder and am really happy with how it seals tight. I'll be honest and admit, I have not tried any of the other handheld vacuum sealers, other than my regular large vacuum sealer that I use when vacuum sealing the food bags, then heat seals the bags. That thing does not work at all for me when it comes to vacuum sealing jars. Don't know why, since it's perfect when sealing the bags....??!
Thank you for breaking down the different types of hand held vacuum sealers. There are so many different types that have popped up just this past year.
Me however, I think I'll stick with the break bleeder. It works as I want it too and requires no electricity, if that day ever comes that we can't recharge something or other...
You did a very professional job with the reviews. Thank you so very much. It is well needed.
I LOVE my VPO6! I’ve tried multiples including Food Saver brands. My goto now is my VPO6.
I have it too! It works marvelously for me!
Videos like this are important. Thank you!
Okay. I got one like the first black one with the jar opener from amazon for $18 today. I tried it with both wide mouth and regular. So far no issue with the wide mouth. With both, it automatically shuts off at 20 seconds. The regular had 2 issues out of 9 for me where the rubber part on the unit folded in as I mounted. That is probably what some people were complaining about in the reviews, but unaware of the simple fix. Also, I found that with the second issue, (I was going nuts with one lid because this is so amazing!) with the same lid, if the seal is worn down a bit, you may have to put some pressure down on the unit when you turn it on or just use a fresh unused lid. Also the only time it went past 20 seconds is when I had issues. Seems like that is an indication when something isn't right, Thank you. This review this help make my decision.
Thank you Darcy for all of your research.
My pleasure!
You know a good seal when the dry product start flying upward. I prefer the lids with the buttons, but I will try that thumb thing you did in addition.
Thank you for all of the effort you put into producing these videos and doing all of the testing! You have the most detailed explanations on this subject that I've ever seen and heard.
BTW - I heard you say the brand name of each sealer you talked about, or if I missed it, I clicked back enough seconds to listen again.
It's okay - I never thought about the need to put the product name on screen - and I forget people don't look in description boxes - I'll remember it for next time.
@@ThePurposefulPantrythere are several on Amazon that look like the vo6 but they have different names 🤷♀️. I bought the Love Moment mason jar electric sealer on Amazon.
Sorry - that's the one cannot recommend. The link in the description box is the one I recommended.
Thank you VERY much for this video. Both my daughter & I have been looking into this type of jar sealer. After watching numerous videos about these we've been so confused!! You made this wonderfully clear! God bless!
Glad it was helpful!
@@ThePurposefulPantry very helpful! I ordered one & will get another for myself if we like it as well as I think we will!! Thank you!
I got my sealer & absolutely love it! It is working great!! Again, thank you very much!
Use two jar lids when sealing smallmouth jars. The top lid will eventually release and the lower lid will be super tight.
It doesn't always work with the vacuum sealers - and if I have one that routinely doesn't work with the small lid, and find one that does, I'm going with the less tedious option. That's why I tested.
Darcy I loved this testing. But I wasn’t sure after the VPO 6+ which product you were testing. Just a suggestion is to put the brand on the screen. Thanks!
Yes I found different brands on google/Amazon labeled as “VP06 plus”, pls let us know the brand name of your VP06 plus?
@@richdv6800yes I’m wondering too.
I recently got one of the black VPO6 pumps like you demonstrated and what I've been doing is let it pump until it TURNS OFF. I get a great vaccum seal every time. I only use large mouth jars. The small mouth jars will always be harder to seal because there is less surface area (less pounds per square inch) for the evacuated jar to hold the lid in place.
I don't have a problem doing regular mouth lids at all with it.
I purchased the black sealer 2 months ago on recommendation from another TH-camr. Excellent device!
Very timely! Thank you for saving the day! Neither my table top or hand held food savers would work today & they are only a year old! Looking forward to getting your #1 recommendation!
I see you wrote this 5 months ago....am wondering if rainy weather can affect the vacuum process?
I have this sealer and it’s wonderful. The first one you demonstrated.
Thanks, Darcy. Great demo and comparison.
FYI. When operating, as the pump evacuates air there is less and less air in the jar that the pump has to push out so there is less load on the motor and it speeds up. When the sound levels off the pump has reached its maximum vacuum and you can shut it off. My knowledge comes from working for a manufacturer of fractional horsepower compressors and vacuum pumps for over 30 years.
Please which brand of this one did you buy? Is it a strong seal and this vacuum will last a long time?
I'm do glad you did this
New follower here. I just received my first ever dehydrator on Friday. I bought the Cosori 600 watt unit. This morning after watching this video, I order the VPO 6 plus vacuum sealer. I think I’m hooked up, at least for now!
Hope you enjoy it!
I use hot water and dry them before using on the jar with a cotton towel or Paper Towel on the smaller lids. I think the warming allows the rubber to expand, then when it seals it does so settles. I run into the same issues with my jar lids. Trial and Error you can say.
This video was SO HELPFUL!! Thank you so much!
I'm so glad!
I laughed out loud at the thumbnail. 😆
Yes they certainly do suck! (some better than others)
I love my VPO sealer (whichever one I have). The only thing I ever noticed was that some canning jars have an extra wide rim of glass just under the screw on threads that keep the sealer from seating down far enough.
Thank you! That was an excellent presentation. Clear and complete.
Very nice presentation. I just use my food saver one as it shuts off when it is done automatically. The only time it doesn't seal is if my used lid is too bad.
Thank you for the reviews and suggestions!
Nice experiment.
Thank you so much for this video and the information you shared.
I have to see which model (the black one) I have. It was wonderful for a few months then I started having a ton of trouble with wide mouth jars. I can't get it seated properly now. Also, this unit and my seal a meal always give me trouble when doing standard jars. I have to stick the gasket back in EVERYTIME. It drives me crazy.
I don't know why but my regular size kid, gets sucked up in the vacuum sealer lol... Have one of the black styles .. 😮😢
The last two machines with the tube - especially the manual one, (I have a similar one.) The tube doesn't just work to attach it to a machine. I use the tube between the manual pump and the jar. It's much easier for me, than trying to keep it centered.
PS love the video. Thanks for testing these. I've been thinking about getting a new one soon. ❤
Like I mentioned - it will depending on the machine it's being attached to. If only they were all universal!
@@ThePurposefulPantry I mean to use the tube between the manual pump that it came with, and the jar you're sealing, so you don't have to hold it on top.
And I would find that more cumbersome :)
@@ThePurposefulPantry just figured it might be good to know for others like myself. 🙂
Thanks for the reviews, they are very helpful.
Thank you this was so helpful. I don’t always have success with my FoodSaver brand handheld and the charge does not hold well and can only do 4 to 5 jars and then needs a recharge. I think I am going to try the VP06
I have the first one and love it both sizes work fine
Thanks for doing all the legwork!
My pleasure!
Darcy, before I watched this video, I ordered the second one that you demonstrate in here. I immediately returned it because it wouldn’t even hold a charge! I ended up get one like the hurricane , and love it! 10/22/23.
Glad you found one that works for you!
I have the same vacuum you tested 5th but the gaskets are solid in the lids and I get a perfect seal every time without holding onto it in half the time of your favorite. Maybe different brands are using the same vacuum with cheaper attachments? I don't know, but I love mine for $18.
I have that nutri seal & the regular mouth never seals. The cap thingy is so hard to get off, it always pulled the lid off too. Very frustrating. The wide mouth seals pretty good, but again, really hard to pull off.
Thank you for sharing vacuum sealers.. I just received the VP05. 🙏😊💕
Thank you for this excellent review! I had been wondering. Think I will stick with my Food Saver that you recommended a couple years ago. Thank you!
I just received the hand pump worked good!
I have the last set that ypu demonstrated and I like it. I get the same results that you did in this video.
I have the Nutriseal. I have had no trouble with the rubber seal coming off at all.
The instructions say to hold the sealer on the jar for 15 seconds.
Doing this I’ve not had a single fail. I love it.
My friend was so impressed that she bought one also. 🫙
I found it a problem - and tested it a lot.
Thank you so much for testing which ones was the Best!!!!
I just bought the VPO6 Plus from Amazon. I was wondering which would seal the best and not take up that much space. I live in an apt.
Wow so happy I found your channel, amazing, thank you for your amazing review 🎉
I love my VPO5 seals all my small jars
Very helpful video, thanks Darcy!
You're so welcome!
If you have no electricity or can’t buy batteries, then a hand pump is the way!
The VP05/6 holds a charge a very long time. It can seal quite.a number of jars on one charge. It's a convenience tool. I don't have to drag out my large vacuum sealer. It stores neatly in a small corner of a cabinet without any extra parts. They're charged via USB. Unless you are in a grid down situation for weeks on end, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think that a priority would be to vacuum seal some dry goods in that situation.
Type C to small portable solar panel
I love the VPO. I don’t know about numbers
Thanks found it for $20 on amazon. I was pumping and hands don't always work with age.
good analysis, very thorough. Love your review.
Thank you kindly!
Very detailed ,thanks for sharing.
I bought a different brand, but the narrow mouth does not work, no matter what. I didn’t find out until I was out of return window, so not happy. I wanted it to take with me in our new camper. I won’t buy one again. I will pack up my big old 10 year old Food Saver and continue to seal any jar plus bags. For long term storage, I can put vac- sealed bags of dry food into a vac sealed jar in the camper so mice can’t get to it should any get into the coach. (Not likely, but I won’t take chances) It may be bulky and it isn’t battery operated, but it works every time and I can plug it into my power station that is solar rechargeable, so no worries even if we are boondocking, and I will be more relaxed instead of frustrated. That’s what camping is for, right? I admit I’ll be happier at home too. I also seal some commercial and canning jars in my Avid Armor canisters. Works like a charm!
I subscribed just because I got what I wanted by only watching 2 seconds of your video.
Thanks.
Awesome, thank you!
Damn ninja skills! Nice catch!😊
Thankyou for testing these out great video ,you explained it very well, just wondering about the cilantro sitting beside you so nice and green was that dehydrated look so good
Yes! Lowest possible temp!
Thank you, I needed this.
Glad it was helpful!
What is the lid popper gadget called and where can I find one? Love it!
It's in the description box: 👉Cookwise Jar Opener → amzn.to/3PY2HB4
Thank you for your information it helped me.🇨🇦
I much prefer the Pump N Seal system. Inexpensive, works well, and doesn't require electricity/batteries.
Whatever works for you!
Thank you, this is so helpful! ❤
You're so welcome!
Brands of lids make a difference in getting a good seal, imo.
Thank you for this video. I have a different sealer & it works just ok. I have rheumatoid arthritis & my hands suck. The one I have is so hard to push on to the jars without shifting the lids so much that they don't seal. Are these easy to pop on?
I mentioned it in the 2 black units - they are both very easy to get on and off, and you saw me pull them off without any struggle. My original unit was very hard to get off at times.
VP06+ is the one I'd get - amzn.to/3tr2kaC
That's what it looked like to me as well. I just wanted to double check. Going to order the newer one & just keep the other as a back up. Thank you 😊
I have the VOP5. Any thoughts? I haven’t had to use it very often but it has worked
I said it's a great machine unless it doesn't work. In the beginning :) If yours is working, you're good.
@@ThePurposefulPantry thank you
Thank you!
You're welcome!
When I use the regular lids and it finishes at twist the big part off and then twist the little part off.
Could I use one of these for bottling olives?
Not for shelf-stable storage. Only for the fridge. This does not replace waterbath or pressure canning.
HELLO GTSY I HAVE THE VPO5 AND I LOVE IT
I just tried the black portable sealer and it was horrible. I couldn’t get it to seal!
I followed your link for your first recommendation, but nowhere do I see the model number VP06+. However I did order it, i think it is the same one you used. Thank you, very good review. I do have the handheld attached to my Food Saver, but I do not keep it on my counter, so it is not convenient to use.
If you're in Canada, it's not available there, which is why you aren't seeing it. Unfortunately I can't give you an option because I don't have access to all the options you do there.
@@ThePurposefulPantry I am in Michigan. Was simply wondering why model numbers aren’t listed. The link looked just like the one you used and said was VP06+, so i am hoping a model number will be on the box.
It's actually out of stock at the moment, which is another reason you may not be able to find it. Here's an alternative: amzn.to/3QEELUZ (Amazon affiliate)
How many times can the !lids be used before they won't seal properly anymore ?
There's no way to tell you. All lids are made differently, and it will depend on how you use it.
Thank you, another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Helpful! Thank you!
I never use the can opener to get them open. It ruins the lids. I take a spoon and run it around the thread of the lid till I get to the top of it and then I just tilt the spoon and the lid comes off without damage to the lid
If you're careful, it doesn't ruin the lids, thus I use the one I'm using. But it's great you found a way that works for you.
@@ThePurposefulPantry What is it called that you use? I want to check it out. Do you have a link for that or no?
I use this: amzn.to/3vTjvDi (Affiliate link), but there are some coming out that are less expensive now. I also used an old can opener that had a round edge (instead of the point bottle opener), and it helped protect lids, too. But this one is better and easier to grab.
@@ThePurposefulPantry thanks
What is the difference between the canning and this
This is for dry goods only. Canning preserves wet food under pressure.
I looked up VP 06plus and it keeps taking me to Amazon. The product looks close to the same, but it doesn’t show that model number who makes that model?
If you're in the US, please use the link that I put in the description box to get the machine I use. If you are in Canada, it's not available there. VP06 is not the brand name, but the generation/category of machine. Most won't list that number. Kitool is the brand I use.
I had a hand help pump but with my arthritis in my hands I was not able to push the pump up and down.
Yep - that's why I love these...but they can be hard to pull off for the same reason - they just take a little wiggle work :D
for the VP05 does come with a wall plug or just the cord and if not what wall plug does it need a, b or c?
Don't know about the VP05 - I didn't keep it. The ones I chose do not have wall plugs and are USBC (I think they all were).
Thank you once again.
Always welcome!
I have a hand pump! I love mine!
