    Great review, your summary is spot on in regards to the Triumph. I also agree with what you said about the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, fantastic motorcycle except for the split screen and the lights. Fortunately that’s a simple fix so let’s hope Yamaha listens to their consumer research and make those changes for the next model year.

      I have a 2019 tracer and keep both lights on. With the adjuster screws, I set the high beam to the same height as the low beam and just leave the switch on. I never ride at night; and if you do both lights are set at low beam.You never use high beam in the 🇬🇧 too much traffic.

      I have a 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT. Should I keep it or trade it in for the Tiger? I find the Tracer seat is uncomfortable, I tried different seats and padding etc, but it’s not enjoyable for long distance touring. Otherwise the bike is solid.

    I really enjoy your low key, laconic reviews. Very informative and real. Give the 850 Sport a whirl, I tried all the Tigers and decided on that one. Motor feels more punchy (could be lighter weight!) Tyres are a better choice and once you’ve got 1000mls on the clock suspension is spot on. Dislikes, rev counters crap, and jerky low speed throttle, solved by taking slop out off throttle mechanism (I used a bit cut off a tie wrap!). Otherwise she’s a keeper!

    Agree on the brakes, I was expecting the same level as braking as some of the other bikes. But actually, I'm happy they have softened the initial bite as I'd constantly be diving that front end on my 850 Sport! They still have similar feel when you give a big handful though! Nice video, well thought out and explained as per.

    Thanks for your content, I have the tiger 900 gt pro, I solved the jerky throttle by adding the spacers on the throttle, before I was riding in rain map to smooth things out, but now I'm able to enjoy it in road mode with smooth acceleration. I own the exact same mode and colour. A good improvement on the 800, which I found a bit buzzy. The 900 feels more like a twin and is lovely to ride on our leafy main roads in Devon. My partner also says it the most comfortable bike she has been on. I was thinking of downsizing due to age and strength but the 900 feel lighter than the 800 and is far easier to wheel around and put on the mainstand. I actually like being able to press a button to get the suspension right, depending on if I have the panniers on, a passenger, or solo. You pays your money and takes your choice!

    Your point about the screens is valid. I find the Yamaha screen very busy and complex. The Triumph screen by contrast is much simpler and easier to read. I’ve had an R80GS and R100GS Shaft drive is very hard to go past- not having to oil or adjust a chain or get oil on the side of your rear tyre is heaven on two wheels. Going down a freeway recently I had a huge chunk of industrial strength plastic get caught up in my chain. Luckily I’d had a centre stand put on the bike so I could spend 20 minutes getting it out the chain/ cog ⚙️ in the emergency lane in a 100 kmh zone. I can forgive a bike many faults as long as it has shaft drive.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scary story! I agree on centre stands. A bit like insurance: annoying until you actually need it, then it's indispensable and you're glad you've got it. I wish all bikes were shaft driven :)

    Very good and clear spoken review. Easy to understand for a non-native speaker like me. Did a test drive recently. My experience is similar. Very handy, drive train super smooth and decent wind protection. Not spectacular, more like a Honda. In a positive way. Well done Triumph. Unfortunately a bit pricey for a 900cc cross-over. With panniers its close to 18k euros. Really hefty.

  • @interceptorm5
    @interceptorm5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looks like you and I are not just similar in age but have a very similar preference for the bikes. I have recently upgraded from Tracer 700 to Tracer 900 GT and despite fueling issues at slow speeds I am very satisfied with the buzz that this triple engine gives me. The sound on the overrun and at full blast is, I guess like a drug (never tried any other than being a coffee addict for 40+years) you never have enough of it. The annoying screen I've immediately upgraded to Kappa touring screen from my old Tracer with some mods to fit and the seat had received an extra 50 mm of packaging foam with my own upholstery effort with black marine-grade vinyl. So, now I just wait for summer to come here down under to do some longer touring. I am sure that you will make the decision to suit you best but if you already have noticed that Tiger is a tad boring, hope you'll remember your BMW 900XR disappointment. And like you, I found Tracer 9 just not as good-looking as Tracer 900 GT which is why I went with the older model.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like your reasoning. My new bike is more powerful than the Tiger, but not by much. It has much more torque, though. The Tracer is a great bike, pity they slapped such a weird dash on it :(

  • @julianperry5141
    @julianperry5141 ปีที่แล้ว

    Took one out for test ride last week. I was really impressed. Set the pre load to rider and luggage, damping to full sport, sport mode for the throttle and man did this thing go. I was hooking it around corners quicker than my speed twin. That quick shifter is freaking awesome, I was blown away with it, so much so I'm trading the speed twin in on it. Love the speedy, but I'm doing bigger riding days and multi day trips and I'm getting a little beaten up. Didn't find the throttle twitchy at all, and once the suspension was stiffened up, it was rock solid and held a line really well in the corners, even hanging off the seat...haha.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally get that. I love my Speed Twin, too, but I've ordered the new Transalp for longer trips. As you say, the Speed Twin was never really designed for distance.

    • @julianperry5141
      @julianperry5141 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RocketMan_Moto if only I could afford the speed twin, but unfortunately can only afford to have one bike, and touring and fanging around on changeable riding surfaces here in NZ, this makes sense. I was never a fan of adventure/touring style bikes, but at 56 this seems the sensible choice. The sound reminds me of what yamaha did with the crossplane R1 motor. I think an arrow end can would create an even more visceral experience. Keep up the good work.

    I test rode the Triumph 900 GT Pro but ultimately decided to go with the Tracer 9 GT - the clocks do remind me of Carl Fredricksen from the 'UP' movie but they work remarkably well when riding - much better and less cluttered than my 2019 Africa Twin Adventure Sports! What sealed the deal for me was the superior power of the Yam and I also liked the luggage included. Having only done 200 miles on the Tracer (bought it 3 days ago) I have yet to find any major faults with it - well maybe a few minor faults: I would like to see both headlights on in dip mode, the foot pegs are slightly in the way of where your feet need to be on the ground, 10 settings for the heated grips is a bit much! I love the handling of it though - as good as my Fireblade without the pain in my wrists, spine, and knees!

    A great review 👍I’ve owned this very bike for a year - the fuelling as never been a problem on my bike ? , you have to ride this bike in sports mode at all times ! Never rain mode ! I’ve just completed a 1300 mile trip taking in part of the ( NC500) in four days , we did single track, twisties , long sweeping roads and motorways, it was brilliant at all disciplines! the other bikes where a Gs , a Africa twin and a bobber ( yes a triumph bobber ) and in my opinion it smashers the Africa twin for power and handling and comes a close second to the gs ?
    I think reviewing bikes is very difficult when you only have the bike for day or so . I can honestly say that this bike gets better the longer you own it , and is a brilliant travel bike ! it’s also 7k less than the GS .
    Keep the lovely sunny videos coming 👍can I also say that it’s the bike you should have bough rather than the BMW you had 😊

      i have test ridden the f900xr and the new tracer 9 gt. the clocks look ridiculous when the bikes on the stand, but honestly when riding you dont really notice it and the info it gives is sufficient. This vid of the triumph does not make me want to test ride it at all. the engine on the tracer is a peach and the clocks really are not that bad. the only travesty is that there isnt a £xx(x) option for the right hand clock on the tracer to have bt connectio and turn by turn. RocketMan sold his bmw after a relatively short time and said that it just wasnt what it promised to be, then rides the equally boring triumph and says it better than the tracer because the clocks are ugly???????????

So with my second motorcycle (I change mine very rarely), I had difficulty in finding something rather compact (around 500 cc and 50 HP was enough for me), but as comfortable seating-wise as my Yamaha XT. In the end, it was a scrambler. Having back problems, I still had to modify the handlebar to get it a bit higher, and pad the seat a bit more for a more relaxed knee angle (yes, I am picky), but now it is to my liking. It is not my favourite looks-wise. I once sat on a Moto Guzzi T85 which I liked a lot, and it was not too bad (could flat foot). You really must adjust the damping front and back on this bike to understand its range, any bike in fact. Damping is linked to rider modes (rear only on this bike) and by selecting RAIN mode you have selected a rider mode with a lightly damped rear shock, no wonder it felt soft. RAIN mode backs damping right off in an attempt to keep the rubber in contact with that damp road. What I suggest you do with any Triumph with electronically adjustable suspension is “disassociate” damping from rider modes. Now you can change rider modes to your hearts content and keep the rear shock damping level to your preference. I am surprised you felt it had little oomph? RAIN mode does clip its wings, you need to be in road or sport for full power. Front fork compression and rebound take two seconds to adjust from fully damped to lightly damped. You should fully adjust one way then the other (in conjunction with the rear) to find the range available and settle somewhere that suits you. Part of your premium price is for this adjustability, you can transform the ride with very little effort. You must do better on suspension! 😬👍.

      @RocketMan_Moto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suspension was fine, no criticism there. I played about with the riding modes, but they seemed to affect jerkiness rather than performance. I don't feel the need for electronic suspension on any bike, as I very rarely carry luggage or a pillion.

    But would probably choose the simple 850GT which has a touch more torque only losing 3 hp on the dyno to the 900s on top… if it only had cruise control.

    Tracer has markedly limited suspension travel compared to the Tiger and also wider tyres. It's pretty clear that Yamaha really didn't consider the Tracer as an off road bike despite being labelled as "adventure". Tiger is not a great off-road bike in GT version but at least it is a bit capable.
