  • The Yamaha MT-03 is the most fun I've had on a racetrack. The light weight and manageable power of the MT-03 makes it a super fun and stress free way to explore your personal limits. Playing with the edge of traction is easy with the great stock chassis and suspension. I was shocked to find my second best lap time on the MT-03 when comparing the times to much more powerful "faster" bikes I've brought out to this track previously. I was able to run faster times than on a Honda VFR800 and Yamaha FZ1. Only my Ducati Multistrada proved faster in my hands.
My local track is Arroyo Seco Raceway near Deming, NM which has an extremely tight and technical set of turns that gives the MT-03 an advantage over bigger bikes when in the hands of an inexperienced track rider like myself. The track record is on a liter class sport bike, however, so the two straights are long enough to give more powerful bikes the overall advantage.

A lot of people don't go down low enough in their gears because it is less abrupt when giving it gas. If you are coasting into a corner, your in the wrong gear. Work on using 2nd and 3rd instead of 3rd and 4th. see if that improves your lap times. (go to 4th if you hit the rev limiter) Run your street recommended pressures on you track days. That is where the manufactures determined is it's most optimal. Look as far through the corner as you can comfortably, somewhere around the exit of the turn. Watch the other riders, without looking at them. You don't want to target focus. As you reach the apex, look toward the next one. Remember, where your head goes, your ass will follow. Shifting, lean angle will improve with more saddle time.

You're not the only one. It's not the first time I hear that. Thanks for the feedback.

That looked really enjoyable and the lap times compared well with the times set previously by your larger bikes. Just shows what a well rounded bike the MT 03 is. A bit of tuning and a few seconds could be knocked off. Great stuff, thanks for sharing your day out.

Agreed! Track days are much more fun and enjoyable on the little bikes and the MT03 chassis feels so natural when pushing it a bit. The big bikes feel like they are ready to bite your head off with any slip of your throttle hand :). I just got new, sticky Bridgestone RS10s put on and am anxious to get back out there to see how many seconds I can shave off.
