It's only because of your videos that i knew to put cash aside and be on high alert for the reissues of Carnage, Venom & Cyclops. The lack of communication from Medicom is ridiculous. Great video as usual KD.
Damn. You do great work brother. And I agree their stance makes no sense and is simply aggravating. Doesn't help that along with limited supplies, retailers start raising prices right away.
Thank you. I don’t get the secrecy. Who does that benefit? How does not being transparent with your collector base, who are paying hundreds of dollars for long sold out figures, help them or even you when you’re planning a rerelease and your model is stealth drops? I just don’t get it.
Thanks for the informative video. Almost 8 years now collecting Mafex and 120 figs. They make some great design choices, but lack of communication, unreasonable prices and QC issues which other companies don't do, prevent them from being a great company. Also, taking years to complete lines ((X-Men, Hush), is getting frustrating.
Thank you for watching out for your fellow collectors, really a shame that a big company that's charging hundreds of dollars for their figures isn't doing the same.

Well said brotha. I was in Tokyo at the end of March and stopped by Project 1/6. That tight lip action is what they gave me too. I have a feeling it’s information withheld to foreigners (not exclusively), but that’s what I felt when I asked the workers. It may be possible they give the actual shipment info to Japanese customers only now. They were already in a bad mood when I asked if they had anymore Cyclops in stock. You have better rapport with them but idk. I also find it nuts that they told you they didn’t like you posting info on Mafex figures. It’s sad, man.
Your frustration is valid and represents how a lot of collectors are feeling, I'm sure. It's probably especially aggravating at times because you've essentially been an unofficial (and unpaid) company rep for a while now. Giving collectors information we should all be privy to in the first place and helping to get answers to questions we've all been asking. The way I see it, you've brought them business as well by getting people to hold off on purchasing from resellers to buy direct from their retail partners. Now the cold shoulder. Really sorry KD. Letting go, I've come to understand, is more like a skill to be practiced than a lesson to be learned. Time for more practice, I suppose. Thanks again for all your work in the group and here! I recently got my Mafex Gambit and his arm joint broke off and the other Mafex I bought this month (Mafex Stealth Suit Cap)…he’s neck won’t move at all. It just kinda stuck. Mafex seems to be going down a dark path and I bet karma will will bite them soon enough for there tight lips idea.
First of all, thanks for all you do for the collecting community. One thing of note is that the Stealth Suit Cap and the soon to be released Infinity Saga Cap has the ugly single joint elbows but the video you took of Winter Soldier shows he has the traditional nice double jointed elbows. It's so weird that they fixed The horrible gapped shoulders on Cap figures and in turn downgraded the elbows. Don't get me started on needing to swap the forearms (made a video on that). So disappointing.
Right?! So disappointing. It’s baffling how they go back and forth on engineering. It’s almost like they have completely different teams working on each figure.
I hate how companies are so secretive about this type of information, but especially Japanese companies. Like... why does it matter if we hear about _reissues_ ahead of time? Do they have a stake in the reselling? Because that's the only _logical_ reason I can think of for not being open about reissues and rereleases. Crap, even Bandai is transparent about reissues and rereleases. The only other thing would be if Medicom is pulling a Nintendo and wants their stuff to be scarce and very sought after. But... like... they leave their pre-orders open for months, so... huh? They're not playing into FOMO at this point, they're just being secretive for the sake of it.
Currently, Medicom is riding a high horse. The quality is still not great but the re-issues are at least breaking the bubble in the secondary market. I would also really be happy to get the re-issue information earlier enough.
The QC is underwhelming on these reissues, maybe I was unlucky BUT I bought 2 figures (Ben Reilly and Cyclops) from different retailers, both of them have the same problem. In short the peg doesn’t stay in the place and when you move it pops off, on Cyclops is worse cause is the abdomen piece so the whole upper body pops off. This is another problem, there’s no assistance for these problems, at best I’ll get a partial refund but my figures are still fucked up. Im not gonna get any replacement or spare parts cause the production is probably over. This sucks so bad, I feel like I wasted my money.
Yeah. Say what you will about the prices BBTS charges but at least you’re covered by them if the figure is damaged. I know firsthand that Medicom only assists buyers in Japan.
100% they’re QC issues have increased again. It’s hard to commit to going 100% into Mafex for me as there can always be something catastrophic that can go wrong with a figure lol. It’s why if Figuarts or Mafex make the same figure I’ll always take the Figuarts version over it because on the whole they tend to be better in the QC department.
They are better for the QC but the hand pegs suck, the accessories are often underwhelming these days, the paint is usually on par with Hasbro levels, and the American IP head sculpts have been pretty mediocre to bad for the past few years. I’m hoping Figuarts has turned a page with their stuff recently.
I picked up a reissue of the first Dark Knight Returns Bats. Don’t need the huge horse. Other than that the releases I’m most excited for is Knightfall Bane and Batman
Thanks for your great job and passion. I really don't understand what game is playing Mafex with reissues, when they could make a better production, more benefits easily and customers would be happy. About winter soldier and boba fett...do you think they finally release at the end of April?
Who knows? An idea of controlling their own release information I guess but they don’t do that when retailers put reissues up for preorder. So who knows?
We were just talking about it on the facebook group. Mafex is dropping the ball, mainly with Marvel Line. All the Hush Batman, Superman etc. haven't heard that many complaints. My newest purchase for Cyclops was falling apart in every way. Def considering selling off all Mafex, and not Purchasing any in the future. Rather do Amazing Yamaguchi or Sh Figuarts!
It’s weird that some figures are home runs and others are complete misses. I mean, are they engineering these in house or are they subcontracting them out?

What you're mentioning is very true. Mafex tends to be quite unclear overall, both with release delays and, more recently, with reissues. It's almost as if it's treated like a state secret, which can be quite frustrating because they only provide information once the products have already been released. On the other hand, Bandai with their SH Figuarts line is different. They announce the pre-order opening dates weeks in advance, and reissues have a release date set four months beforehand (as seen with the Sh Figuarts Guts). Personally, I believe Medicom undervalues the Mafex line in general because they have the BE@RBRICKS art toys, which yield enormous profit margins, making Mafex seem like a lesser priority.

If you want complete protection, I’d order it from BBTS, if you’re in the USA. If you’re not in the USA, perhaps another local retailer that sells it. If you want to have it cheapest, get it from a Japanese retailer like HLJ or AmiAmi. I’ll be picking it up and reviewing it the day it releases so feel free to watch the video to check if there are any serious issues about the quality.
Yeah. I mean they announce on March 23rd that the figure is officially coming out on the 25th? I didn’t see any store that had them in stock then. Every retailer was sold out long before including their own store.

I was told the company doesn’t like information coming out that isn’t officially released by them first.

Yes I think so. Once they begin displaying figures in the store, it’s usually soon after that they’re released
