Exactly one of the things that I think really gives the audience a reason to gear bucky is because of how our characters see him. Like if you see Natasha Romanoff scared of him then you know shit just got real!

Yeah, I've seen videos where he's flipping the knife, and he is very skillful. He said he practiced at home and in his car until it was perfect.
That being said, the stunt double is used quite a lot in this scene. Unless you slow the video down, it may be difficult for most people to tell whether it's Sebastian or his stunt double. You have to look at the eyebrows and hairline to see the difference.
The knife fight izzz truly amazing, though.
The Winter Soldier is a PERFECT example of the trope of villains being absolute badasses while evil but becoming weaker when they are good guys. He has never kicked this much ass since this with the exception of when he got mind controlled AGAIN in Civil War!
Because he didn't have Bucky's full conscious holding him back, That's what the brainwashing and conditioning was for, that there wasn't any of Bucky, just a hardened trained. Murderous assassin Hydra could order to kill anyone and he would with staggering effectiveness, it was Bucky's soul and good character that held him back

If Spider-Man became evil, he wouldn't hold back, and the team would very much struggle to deal with him.
The reason why he wasn't as scary once he became a "good guy" was precisely because we had no idea what he is. He was one big mystery and the only real thing we knew about him was that he was some sort of bad ass soldier and who could go to toe with, and had no fear of, Capt America. So once you know who he is, the mystery goes away. And secondly, he isn't a bad guy any more, so he isn't going to be as scary. Lets fact it, a scary mysterious bad guy is scarier than a good guy whose back story is know. This is true even if the good guy is stronger. Same thing happen with Loki, Loki was terrifying at the beginning, and once he became a good guy (or at least someone who has good tendencies even if he has some evil in him), he wasn't as terrifying anymore.
The time where Captain America became an action star from being a funny-costumed superhero. I will never stop thanking the Russo Brothers for this decision

The Russo Brothers and James Gunn really kickstarted the idea of making each marvel movie hero have their own unique film styles and themes, right when the MCU was floundering with IM 2-3 and Thor 2 which were much more generic and copycat with mixed reviews, I'd say they are the reason the MCU still manages to keep going without slowing down years later

The fight scenes in Daredevil are better.
The Winter Soldier's presence is just perfect. He's not a big evil mastermind, or alien titan, he's just a guy, seemingly like everyone else. His abilities don't come from a massive army or crazy superpowers, but great skill, a large arsenal of weapons and a touch of superhuman strength. He doesn't put on a big show, reveal his face or even talk, he gets straight to action. The mere sight of him is enough to let you know you're fucked.
He is definitely a super soldier like cap. The only ones that aren't is widow and the falcon
@@Deathcardcodwaw Which is crazy considering how much Widow has survived in her lifetime being only human, atleast falcon has gadgets and super equipment. Widow and Clint(Hawkeye) have it the worst with only basic human weaponry and their martial and tactical skills.

Also, Black Widow is a badass trained assassin. It's silly to call her just a regular person.
Hawkeye has borderline superhuman accuracy with any weapon he picks up. Still not fair to call him a regular person. This is no different than saying Stark is just a regular person without the suit. He was still the, like, 2nd or 3rd smartest person on earth, only behind Pim and maybe Peter Parker or Banner. Most of the Avengers are just regular people with really advanced tech.
Iron Man has his suits.
Cap and Bucky have the serum.
Banner has Hulk, resulting from trying to copy the same serum given to Cap.
Hawkeye and Widow have badass weaponry and the skill to back it up.
Falcon has his flight pack.
Starlord and Rocket just have alien tech.
Gamora and Nebula have been augmented with alien tech.
Hardly any of the heroes aren't just regular humanoids with really advanced tech. Even the ones that do have powers are a result of some tech being used on them that gave them powers. The ones that do have natural powers of their own are alien races, like Draxx, Mantis, Thor, etc.
No suspension of disbelief required. They've spent dozens of movies telling us why the heroes are as strong as they are, and yall keep getting your heads caught up your butts hoping on the WiDoW bAd bandwagon channels like CinemaSins create. Now go cry on your blogs about how Thanos folded Hulk in the movie that establishes Thanos is stronger than Hulk.

Restraint in dialogue is one of the hardest things to write imo. As a writer you naturally want a character to not be mostly mute, cus it's hard to develop them and learn about them, it's a self imposed limiting archetype imo. Very difficult to effectively write, act, and direct.
Reminds me of Drive with Ryan Reynolds. Similar in that the character almost never speaks and when he does he's extremely purposefully brief. You don't see stuff like that often.

No wizards. No gods. No aliens. No multiverse. Just great story with intense action scenes, great choreography, amazing characters without cheesy lines and "wannabe funny" scenes.
Still the best MCU movie.
Fury's chase scene, the elevator scene, this scene, Steve and Bucky's final fight... The tone of this movie is just different. It's not a comedy, but a thriller-like masterpiece.
I thought secret invasion was gonna have a moment like this when Nick Fury explained why he wasn't getting the Avengers. Nope....it was just one huge disappointment. The series started off well and gave off some old-school mcu vibes, but it just got worse and worse.
And not forgetting Cap’s takedown of a Quinjet, after the pilot tells Cap to “Stand down!” over the PA/tannoy speaker.

He still does but I think what's making him weaker is that he's holding himself back. He's not trying to kill anyone anymore. Like with his fight with John he probably could have won if all he was trying to do was kill him and take the shield.

After watching this, I understand why it seems like Bucky is nerfed.
Looks like Winter Soldier focuses on guns, knives, and killing blows with his metal arm.
When we see Bucky fighting, hes focusing on hand to hand combat.
That, coupled together with Bucky holding back to prevent killing anyone, it makes sense that Bucky is weaker then before.
I think with some more martial arts training and getting used to non-lethal combat, he'll be as capable as Steve was.

This scene alone doesnt feel like a superhero movie, no fancy hero outfits, just two highly skilled fighters with an edge of their own brawling intensely with a sense of realism.
My take is a little different. The specific techniques they are doing, are still possible for humans, even if they involve highly skilled humans. But the way they did they fought with these techniques were super human. They were stronger, and faster ,better timing, etc. They fought within the same dimensions as a human, but further in these dimensions than what is humanly possible. It reminds me of Achille's from Helen of Troy, sure, the specific moves he makes were something a human can do, but he was a little too fast, his timing a little too perfect (or possibly blessed or lucky) than something a mere human could do.

Plenty of superhero movies focus on single combat. Batman has top physical conditioning but he has no super strength so most of his movies involve hand-to-hand fighting.

Can we just point out this proves how powerful steve actually is, his fighting style completely changes, in most of his fights hes fighting to stop them, in this he was fighting for his life, and his style of hand to hand combat completely shifted from hero to genuinly trying to survive.
The winter soilder is by far the biggest challenger captain America faced in regular combat. and that says a lot about his skill. Every other villian, cap was able to bring them down with minimal effort. but winter soilder legitimately gave him a run for his money, besting him multiple times throughout the film and actually making him sweat. not a lot of super hero movies do that. they may have the hero lose once or maybe twice but they made cap lose maybe 4 or 5 times in the winter soilder. you know a villian is formidable if they can beat you multiple times in a row.

Best unarmed combat scene in marvels history
After watching more hand to hand fight scenes over the years, I found out that the reason this fight scene works so well is that they barely even hit each other. Both Steve and The Winter Soldier know that a well connected hit can result in a loss so they do everything in their power to block each other's attacks. They don't just mindlessly attack each other and pop back up in a repetitive exchange of hits

@@zephyrr108 I think they mean They’re not just going at each other to the point where they’re bloody and then getting back up and continuing to fight. They’re actually just blocking each other here. You do see both of them getting in some hits here and there but for the most point they’re blocking. It’s great hand to hand. Steve can’t fully disarm Bucky when he has the knife, Bucky can’t fully disarm Steve with the Shield.
@@sammiepittman3130 I mean... Bucky did disarm Steve when he had the shield (the first time) but you're right about everything else. Most fights either make it way too obvious that the actors are aiming for each other's weapons (instead of using weapons to hit the person) or just swinging wildly at the air around them, or neither even tries to block and almost every hit connects and yet both characters stay standing way longer than they should have because they have plot armour. In this fight, every hit looks like both fighters are genuinely trying to connect each blow and the other is forced to dodge, block or deflect.
And sure, if a regular person tried to shank Captain America I imagine he has so much muscle mass that you genuinely couldn't do much damage even if he straight up let you do it. You'd be lucky for the blade to even go deep enough to hit an organ. But Bucky has enough force to put behind that blade that he can do real damage with it. A slash wound wouldn't have stopped Steve but ANY of the attempts to stab him would have instantly won Bucky the fight if they'd landed. Knowing that Bucky can hurt Steve and seeing him actually trying is why this fight is so tense. It sounds so basic and yet most movies fail at this.
The Sensation and enjoyment comes from the low frame rate. If it were filmed in a higher frame rate you’d be expecting much more perfection. Also, there’s an actual purpose for this fight compared to other not so serious fights

Yeah, not dark enough to be a DC movie lol but just right. I wish they did that with endgame. All the joking in endgame really spoiled it for me. I get that they’re trying to make the best of the characters who are going to die/end but they’re literally trying to bring back half the population and one mistake could completely destroy the plan.
On the other hand, Thor: ragnarok and ant man and the wasp are two of my favorites (the wither soldier will always be number 1) and their biggest strength is the upbeat, funny vibe that the movies set. I think it just depends on the movie

@@DTCAllOver Yeah Thor Ragnarok is a great funny movie, just didn't fit Thor at all for me. Turned thor into some dumb surfer dude, the jokes just kept on coming non stop and serious moments didn't feel emotional or serious at all as a result. Example: Korg making a joke within 2 seconds of Asgard being destroyed, Thor and Loki's home of 1500 years. Just not the type of tone or feel I wanted from a Thor movie, I'd have liked something more like epic fantasy since it is inspired by Norse gods and the type, which I think the first film did a decent job of capturing at times, but dark world was literally too dark and boring.

You can make the case for a lot of scenes in the MCU, it is a brilliant universe. Thor’s entrance in Infinity War could definitely be in the conversation too.

Hard to believe Winter Soldier is even made by the same company as the last... idk 5 or 6 mcu films? I stopped with Ant Man 3 and Thor Love and Thunder and Dr Strange 2, all terrible.
The year 2014 had some great action movies. This movie and The Raid 2 came out back to back and had some of the coolest fight scenes ever.
The raid 2 is nuts, best martial arts movie ever made.
Characters like these are way too strong when they are in their Evil phase, but get immediately nerfed when they turn to the good side lmao

It makes sense if you think about it. In their evil phase they aren't hindered by compassion and empathy. They see a target, a mission. Changing from that to wanting to make a good impression in people's eyes, you probably will have to resort to pulling your punches.

The thing that makes this fight so good is that in most superhero fights you look at the hero and go "if I had his powers I could totally beat the bad guy" but in this fight you just know "yeah that knife strike would have killed me. In 1:37, Something tells me that we're going to see a familiar fight in Avengers: Doomsday, except it's between Spider-Man and Dr. Doom, where Spidey took off Doom's mask and realized the face of Dr. Doom is Tony Stark, and of course, Spider-Man would be like:

God I fuckin love cap’s defense in this . From defending the stab combos , using his arms to block hits , to his endless adapting to bucky’s onslaught of guns before using his boxing and wrestling to keep Bucky at bay. So sick man . Miss cap more and more each year 😢

He shot her years ago, then he shot her again. I didn't ever really think about the fact he successfully blasted her with a rifle twice, but just happened to see the other clip where she mentions it right before this one.
I love the focus on quick reflexes and how they emphazise on that in this fight. Goes to show that every Marvel movie has a different flavor, while still being awesome. As super soldiers, fighting techniques are equally matched, so it's all about who misses and who strikes, all in a speedy combat. Both fighting at full speed, and still struggling to land a punch. Great choreography.

In the future maybe Bucky gets a family and the wife was just a brainwashed assassin that follows order without any moral codes ( that’s how bad they’ve messed her)
But Bucky doesn’t know that, her wife was literally programmed to love him. Turns out she was also in the winter soldier programme but at a very young age and was easily manipulated.
They have kids and, she one day gets a new order to kill the kids. During dinner she gets up, takes a gun and shot one kid, while the other still just a toddler.
Bucky out of shock, tries to protect the toddler. But his now brainwashed wife is fighting him to kill the toddler.
They have 3 minute intense fighting , Bucky starts to get tired and he’s crying while fighting the wife. So he can’t kill the wife and the wife is really gaining more agility.
She she kills the toddler, Bucky freezes while the wife escapes the house to the streets. And the winter soldier in him gets fully activated and goes after her, He is just going for the kill. He ends up tracking her in the town’s church and they fight in the middle of the service.
POV: the town’s folk have no clue because they are the most happiest couple in the town and now they are trying to murder each other.
Bucky, goes full ham with hand to hand combat. He ends up snapping her knee, dislocating her shoulder, and snapping her jaw. And the town folks are just in shock as the police arrive, and he snaps her neck.
Police try to shoot him but,
he kills ALL 8 of them(John wick style). And as more are closing in. He ran back into his house, takes a bible, prays while he cries with his rage. Take the two dead kids, goes down the river, place rocks on their heads and prays, before taking his own life.
So that’s one way of bringing back the true winter soldier
Bucky was arguably done better in Civil War. He was a rogue antihero but still unstable and became the catalyst for the civil war
Love this scene. Seriously though, Sebastian Stan has the most expressive eyes. You can see the “deadness” when he’s the Winter Soldier and you can see the turmoil when he’s Bucky.

In fairness, the new serum was “refined” which could entail faster movement, potentially even greater reaction time, and worse case, even greater potency. Still though, Bucky had a vibranium arm now, and a much greater handle on his powers with insane combat experience to boot. Who knows, maybe that experience was only from his brainwashing and was belittled by his freedom from it? Needless to say he did get MAD nerfed.
@@titanfruits1845 Physically speaking, bucky is at the same level of captain america but psychologically he is a very damaged individual, his entire arc revolves around his guilt and hesitance to ever do what he did again. Captain America was easy able to beat an inexperienced Spider-Man in civil war who was catching punches from people like Bucky with ease, even making conversation. The issue with Bucky is that none of the time he had to learn his powers was never really his, it was all the winter soldier. And of course, that also comes with the reluctance to use those powers, which is why he just shoots.

Am I the only one who really liked Black Widow? I was expecting it to be not very memorable like Captain Marvel or Antman and the Wasp but it ended up being one of my favorite stand alone character films.

This movie was so damn good, the acting, the winter soldier was actually a scary character and this is also one of the few times you see black widow kinda scared, and the score help a lot with that. The fight scene were also A++

This is one of my favorite fight scenes in the MCU, the music, the hand-to hand combat, the reveal that the winter soldier is Bucky truly gets me every time. Everything about this scene is just so good.
Best scene in the best movie of the MCU. The Winter Soldier's debut was the best introduction of a character into the storyline. They sure did nerf him once he got in with the Avengers. Just like they did to the Hulk. Did you realize at the time that you first watched this movie that it would be the pinnacle of the MCU? Kinda sad.

My favorite mcu film. It was more gritty and serious than the other ones. Also Bucky was just a great villain. He doesn’t have any emotional motives or extreme super powers. Just a boost of the super soldier serum while using whatever weapons and tactics he needed. He was just a soldier following orders even though he was brainwashed into doing them.

The start of the film showed the ship siege, where Cap plowed through normal people like a hot knife through butter. The fact that he has difficulty overcoming this new enemy shows that Bucky is on par with him, skill wise.
After seeing all the MCU movies and TV shows, this hand-to-hand fight scene is one of the hardest and rawest ones out there. Brute strength combined with equally savage skill, brought to bear by evenly matched opponents in a fast-paced, frenetic face-off.
This is one of the best fight scenes in any movie, ever. Just the use of brutal force vs. skill vs. weapons vs. sheer drive really shows this amazing variety of "superhuman" abilities without losing the "human" factor in it. Cap doesn't just do a backflip because it looks cool--he gets twisted around and it makes logical sense for him to use that extra energy to fight. Every move has a reason--love it.
I loved this winter soldier. They should've kept his looks and his personality throughout the whole franchise

I wanted Bucky in this suit in civil war in 2016. But we can never see
the winter soldier as a bland brainwashed assassin isn't an interesting character, though. it's the journey he goes through and how he grapples with his past that makes him a deeper character. i do hope they give him the opportunity to explore that more (fatws didn't give us as much as i had hoped tbh) in the future.

@@satya27 the flag smashers and walker got the serum 2.0, which makes them even stronger and faster than the serum bucky and steve got. and walker was already VERY strong so after the serum, he's stronger than bucky.
but I still like to think that the vibranium arm is still stronger than the serum 2.0 enhanced flag smashers
