2000 is there best album
Crazy talk
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My favorite album by them and one of the best street punk albums period!
Terrible album, sounds like a bunch of dudes trying to be as punk as they can be, so people don't make fun of them anymore. It reeks of insecurity. At least that's how I hear it. But I have context of when it came out and then previous 3 records they had made. The 2 or 3 songs that are good, are very good, though. It just felt like such an unnatural progression from them, maybe that's what it is I don't like about it.... 🤷🏻 makes for a fun talk regardless, I don't get bothered that folks like it. I've always had the unpopular opinion on this album, lol
Another no skip by Rancid! From the artwork to the raw energy I love everything about this album 🔥
Only 2 songs worth listening to on this record. Terrible vocals, bad production, it's sooo hard to sit through
@@thepunkrockreviewyou get your opinion, it's wrong, but you are allowed.
I totally understand why Rancid wanted to go in a different direction with S/T 2000, but it just doesn’t work for me. I was very disappointed with it when it was released, but it has grown on me a little over the years. It’s still my least favorite album of theirs though.
Yes. This is correct. Lol 👊
a friend of mine described it as "if rancid tried to make hardcore while ignoring hardcore actually existing." i personally prefer it to some of the more deliberate clash rip off albums.
That's a good description actually, lol.
RANCID > The Clash by a LOT
I’ve always thought this. My buddies in high school always thought I was a fucking idiot. It was their favorite. I just never got the Rancid vibe on this album.
100% agree, it should have been released under a different name imo. But it's a fun topic for the channel. I knew I'd get flamed for it though, lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i'm glad i'm not the only one who feels this way. rancid is my favorite band, but no matter how much i try, i can't like this album. the only thing memorable about it is how forgettable it is.
Lol damn....
i love that album, got me into punk - my favourite after wolves and their debut
What are your tops songs off the album?
Its Quite Alright, Rwanda, Radio Havanna, Meteor Of War, Dead Bodies, GGF
I don't think it's their worst, but I wouldn't put it in their top 3. Even top 4. I think a big reason it's so popular was that their first three albums saw them move further and further away from the fast-and-faster formula just as punk was finally breaking into the mainstream. By "And Out Come The Wolves" (by far their best album), they did a near-perfect balance of punk, r'n'r and ska ---- then with "Life Won't Wait", they moved from their original formula even more-so and went near full-on ska/reggae/dub. I think younger fans of the band (many of which were now discovering punk through stuff like Tony Hawk ProSkater and Punk-O-Rama comps) just weren't ready for it. A lot of those kids probably never even heard hardcore or street punk before - so a record like Rancid 2000 (which was also more accessible to them due to distribution) would've knocked their socks off.
So Rancid 2000 was seen as a return to form. I find people who discovered the band through Rancid 2000 seem to have similar feelings with Bad Religion's "The Process of Belief". After years of trying new things, a "back-to-their-roots" kind of album just hit harder at just the right time for a lot of kids, and the nostalgia of that period still rings with them.
But as someone who got into the band in '95 when I was 11, I agree. How anyone can say "And Out Come the Wolves" isn't the perfect Rancid album just doesn't compute with me. The Clash, SLF and Specials influences were a big part of what broke Rancid big. Rancid 2000 is a fine album, but everything about it feels rushed, as if the band just said "fine, you don't like this Life Won't Wait stuff? Here's a record of fast bangers that we wrote over a week". lol.
My top three are:
3. "Life Won't Wait"
2. "Let's Go"
1. "And Out Come the Wolves"
I like a lot of what came after Rancid 2000 too - but I feel like each album has way too much filler to put it on par with anything pre-2000. You could easily make an excellent compilation of Post-2000 Rancid tracks though.
My favorite 3 Rancid albums
1 - 2000
2 - Let the dominoes fall
3 - tomorrow never comes
2000 has amazing bass lines and is basically their punkiest, angriest side. I love it.
If it was recorded, mixed, and mastered better, I'd like it too! There are DEFINITELY some gnarly bass lines on there, I should have brought that up. To not have AOCTW as your top 1 or 2 is wild though
I love this record
This album is a hidden gem of theirs I remember owning a cassette of their debut album back in the early 2000s (I’m 30 years old) the street punk vibes are good, less “pop” feel. Their self titled album is phenomenal, Life Won’t Wait is great, I actually think their less critically acclaimed albums from the 90s early 2000s were better, just me.
Yeah there's only 2, maybe 3, songs on that album that I can even listen to. But that's the beauty of all this, especially Rancid, there's stuff in so many styles that we can all be satisfied
There are a lot bad songs on this album. They tried too hard to be edgy after the criticism from their previous album.
The highlights are “It’s Quite Alright”, “Let Me Go”, “Radio Havana” and my favorite “Poison”.
Pretty close to my exact feelings
Between 98 and 2000 I changed jobs, moved, got married, was about to have a kid, and my wife lost her father. I was ready to find comfort in a new Rancid album. I was so confused by it at the time that it took me years to appreciate it. Rwanda always fascinated me.
I haven't gotten to the point of appreciating the album like you, but otherwise, I think we had a similar experience with it
🐐 Their best album by far 🔥
😬
I respectfully disagree with it being their worst album, but I understand your points and why you feel the way you do. Also, I believe im on about the same page as Rob when it comes to GGF. That song is an absolute banger, and i feel it's probably the best sign-off of all their albums.
I do enjoy the fact that we can all feel a little different about this stuff and at the same time love it all and have so many memories attached to it. Who knows, maybe one day my opinion will flip, wouldn't shock me. Thanks for watching 👊
Bought a bootleg copy of this album in 2000, still have this cassete. Not typical Rancid album, it's more "hardcore", but I've always loved this record.
I wouldn't mind having a bootleg copy of this just bc I collect Rancid stuff and I'm a completist
@@thepunkrockreview I would send it to You, no problem, as I know that You're the biggest Rancid fan in the world. I should check my local post office. Probably, they don't accept parcels to The States because of the sanctions. But if they do, I will send this rarity to You. No problem, Dude.
@user-qk1pe5qh8b oh wow, that would be AMAZING!
@@thepunkrockreview I'll try :)
@@user-qk1pe5qh8b either way, it is appreciated my friend!
i personally think this album is really good and a change of pace and i enjoy the heavier side of rancid, away from all the ska punk pop-ish sound they had, and even still i think this album has a lot of classic rancid sounds in it, it’s not my all time favorite rancid album but it’s definitely top 3 or 4 for me
To each their own! I made my case as to why it's a bad record, but a lot of people don't agree. If this was my first experience with them, I likely would have a different opinion, but I was already half a decade in with the band when they dropped this. Haven't been as disappointed with a band's new release since then I don't think...
Rancid 2000 is by far their best album and its not even close.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its a big obvious thing that it's not even funny how good it is but lol this guys hell bent on having his opinions delegitimized
2000 is my favorite. It's beautiful short heat flame thrower bursts into trenches and bunkers
Best album ever
You’re already pissing me off with the title Patty! When we fight about this I’m coming out to Dead Bodies. You can come out to Ruby Soho
I will embarrass you, and this terrible album
@@thepunkrockreview
Fuck that shit, I don't want to hear it
You can't bare it when we blare it
I hate your band, you understand?
You got no passion, it's all fashion
Well you come you can, come come true
Calm down, flames red or blue
You don't know, you got no clue
I see through
Your a rattlesnake
And your full of shit
I fuckin' hate you
Your a rattlesnake
You talk that shit about our crew, we hate you
You said you know us, we don't know you
You Jump on the next bandwagon
What's the next fan in, I heard you braggin'
But you ain't shit, you get frustrated
We never hesitated to call you a charlatan
Cause we hate you
Your a rattlesnake
Sorry. Don’t know what came over me there. That was harsh. Still friends?
@davesleyer9393 yes, but we must still have battle!
Overhaul I like the album , Lars said they wanted to make an aggressive punk album they definitely achieved that , GGF , Let me go , and radio Havana are epic , wish they played let me go live .
Let Me Go is one of the good songs on the album, definitely would like to see it played live. But yeah, they made an aggressive album that came off sounding inauthentic and not like a genuine representation of the band.
This was better than most 2000's albums, we just thought Rancid was never again!!!
I did a complete listen through on my livestream this past weekend and we collectively decided there's a good 6 song ep in this album, but that's about it. I personally could do 3 songs, but there are 3 more that are popular enough to make a good ep. I'll be making an episode off this topic
Rancid 2000 really does feel like a collection of demos and b-sides. It never captures the genuine feeling of Let's Go and Rancid 93. It feels forced, bloated and try hard.
That said, I would still rather listen to 2000 over Dominoes, at least it has Poison, Antennas, Rattlesnake and Golden Gates Field. These songs work on something like Punk-O-Rama but definitely not a full album.
What's your beef with Dominoes? I love that album
I completely agree with this post. Every album before Rancid 2000 is a better Rancid record.
@thepunkrockreview Boring, easy listening Dad Rock Rancid with no bite or interesting compositions, no catchy melodies outside of East Bay Night. At least that was my initial reaction to the record. Been awhile since I listened to it.
The album cover is a crass cover rip off I like it though .
Out Comes the Wolves and Life Won't Wait are way worse. Loki and I Am Forever are really good, for example.
I mean, you're entitled to feel that way. If you ever want to jump on and debate it, I'm happy to hear your side if you'll allow me to point out my reasons to feel the way I do. Thanks for watching either way 👊
The cover is a crass ( English punk band) rip off , overhaul I like the album especially Let me go , GGF , and radio Havana especially! I read an interview at the time were Lars said they actually wanted to make a fast aggressive punk record, they certainly achieved that , I probably play this album the least though , wish they played let me go live, love the lyrics. 🤘
I don't think it was an intentional Crass copycat, I'd imagine a lot of bands have done similar art.
good album,i hate the NOFX split
I can't disagree more! Lol. I will say though, the song choices for the split were super weird. They could have done a much better job picking those tracks....
Nope. Fucking love it.
To each their own 👊
Worst album? Those would be anything post Let the Dominos fall. Which was just ok.
To each their own 🤷🏻
Did you guys make horrible arguments. One of the best things about rancid is they always keep you guessing. The storytelling on the southside old album is what Ranson has always been about. Some people just start punk rock enough to get it I guess.
😬 yeah man, thinking for yourself and having your own opinion is terrible 🙄 😂😂😂
@@thepunkrockreview well, I can only speak for myself. I suppose I just figured that was the obvious part. I liked life won’t wait and couldn’t understand why so many people didn’t like it. Authenticity is about doing what you want to do without weighing the consequences of opinions. Defines punk rock in my opinion. I just think it’s funny how people build a narrative around the art someone puts out there as if they know what was going on in their mind when they created it. Laughable.
The only take i think you have that's wrong!!
I've got senority on this one, sorry man
its not try hard AT ALL you just aint like that apparently. This the best rancid album for street punks besides troublemaker, TOMORROW never comes and the first ST. rancid made it for the city street punks who like it fast, unpolished, and aggressive. Punks from the back alleys of South Central LA to Venice Beach praise the album for its straight to the point raw street punk. Short songs, brutal bass and beautiful chaos. the worse thing about the album is your opinion of it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rancid's worst is still a good album
That's what I was saying towards the end of the video too, I'd rather listen to their worst than almost anything from anyone else
I think you nailed it. Maybe I listened to the album once and moved on. I don't remember. Gave it another try. Itdoes sound like try-hard garbage. Could not find a track that I liked. Maybe 2 on a scale of 5.
We've got the unpopular opinion on this one, lol
THE BEST RANCID ALBUM IS RANCID 2000!!!
😬
Each to their own ... for me Rancid 2k is up there and also for me it was their last good album ... everything after had some good tracks on but never quite hit the highs of their earlier stuff
Shit, Troublemaker and Tomorrow Never Comes are top 3 or 4 albums for me.
This actually showed their sing writing genius. These songs are such perfect razor blade pills. Short aggressive bursts. Its amazing songwriting.
I guess. But my gripe wasn't really the song writing, but yeah, you right 👊
You guys are punk snobs I bought this album in Norway in the year 2001 this album rules
Ok
While not their best album, it's way better than any of the albums they released afterwards
Wholeheartedly disagree, but to each their own. You don't care for Indestructible, Dominoes, or Tomorrow Never Comes?
@@thepunkrockreview Indestructible was decent, but definitely has a few skips. Dominoes I like the acoustic version. Tomorrow Never Comes is just super generic to me. Same with Troublemaker, and Honor Is All We Know. Their last 3 albums are almost unlistenable to me. I try every now and then, but they just don't appeal to me at all.
