I'm a 51-year-old Brazilian punk rocker, I've been playing punk and hardcore since 1985 and there aren't many bands from the 2000s to now that I like, but The Interrupters is one that I really like, they make the perfect mix of punk rock, ska and reggae. Long live the Interrupters!
Well said my guy 👊
Saw them open for Dropkick a few nights ago. As a guy who was in HS in the 90s, I haven’t seen live SKA like that in a long time. I had no idea who they were but it sounded pretty effing good to me
You never heard of them until now?!? That's awesome. I first doscovered them with Fight The Power I heard on a TMobile commercial like 8 years ago or something like that
They also used their music on a 2020 Hillary Clinton documentary… just my opinion but I don’t like when “punk” bands support establishment politicians. Either side of the aisle. I also don’t make a living playing music
Right? I find it odd to support one side so adamantly, but hey, do what you want, right?
Such an awesome doco Randall ! I love the Interupters... I think they're the real deal ! How awesome would it be to have Tim Armstrong involved in your career...... They write, play, sing, enough said !
That's a pretty good perspective, for sure
I’m pretty into this music I’ve been my whole life I found it CRAZY that I heard them on the radio in a grocery store for the first time❤ Jesse even responded to a dm I sent him they are super wholesome
That's actually pretty cool, I'd love to gear them on the radio in a grocery store!
i freakin' love this band, Aimee has such an incredible voice.
She definitely has a great voice
Good sound, great lyrics, the haters can "F" off. Lets go Interrupters! Thanks for doing this video.
Agreed, and you're welcome!
Not a big Hellcat fan by any means (I liked Rancid and the Murphys in the mid-late 90s but that's about it). That said, I didn't think I'd like this band, gave them a shot in the mid 2010s, and ended up liking them a lot. I actually like their back story too, including the singer's. It's not the typical punk backstory and the fact that it seems to annoy people that I generally get irritated with, it makes me like the band even more. Aimee has a great voice and well-written songs (regardless of whether they're cowritten with Tim or written by him entirely. lol).
So yeah, no complaints with the Interrupters!
I like that you enjoy them more bc pretentious types get annoyed by them, lol
@@thepunkrockreview hahaha, i sort of worded that wrong. I mean obviously if I didn't like the band's music at all, something like that wouldn't (or at least, shouldn't) make me like it even more. It would just make me hate them less - I guess that's the better way to put it. Sort of like "icing on the cake". haha.
I generally cannot stand ska, but despite that I love this band. Aimee's voice is far too good to be considered a poser or a pet-project.
What does her voice being good have to do with whether or not it's a "pet project" or if she's a poser or not? And I'm not saying either is or isn't true, I just don't understand your comment
Ha ha ha - what would you do If you find yourself in a bunch of musicians when Tim Armstrong says that you should start a band together?
That is a 100% good point 🤣🤣🤣
I like them. It wouldn't matter if they sucked though. Anything that keeps Punk and Ska going, I'm down for and will support. These days it seems like there is so little new talent coming in.
Good point of view, and yes, whatever keeps it alive is good imo
I was on the fence regarding the Interrupters until I saw them a few months back and they won me over. They are so fun live. Their albums keep getting better and "Into the Wild" definitely proves that Aimee can sing. Other than a tasteless joke made by their guitarist regarding Eddie Van Halen, I don't have a problem with them.
Yeah they're definitely a good live band
I like The Interrupters their music saved me from Depression when I was bullied in High School
That's good, im glad they helped you. I hate bullies
I love the Distillers, they were easily one of my top 10's. But, I also love the Interrupters. I don't care how they were formed, who writes their music, etc. I just enjoy it. Bands like this cross the themes of pop, punk, ska, etc. and (I think) work well as a gateway band for younger people who may not know a lot of punk bands. We need more music like this if we want to keep Punk alive.
That is a valid point and I agree for sure
Late to the party, but this band is so entertaining. Saw them with the Murphy's for the first time a few weeks ago and loved their set (despite not knowing any of their music). I went straight to iTunes and bought it all. Hope to have the opportunity to see them again.
Nice! That's awesome
Lol. That Los Skarnales / Houston shoutout was funny. I’m from Houston. I used to share a practice space with those guys. Still friends with them. Regarding the interrupters, I think some people don’t like them because they sound kinda like the Disneyland of punk. I kind of agree with that.
They are definitely a family-friendly kind of group. I've watched a lot of their videos on TH-cam and there's only 1 concert where they used explicit language (it's an older video of Divide Us from like 2014 or 2017). That said, Aimee went through an abusive childhood and got beat up on the street one time as an adult, and has been dealing with depression issues and alcohol issues, so she has the proper credentials for having punk roots. As for the brothers, I haven't heard them talk about it but wouldn't be surprised if they grew up in a religious household, as they are clean cut and wholesome sounding. I like the brothers though, and Kevin is pretty funny.
@@jayp4303 totally. Saying they are kinda like the “punk” that you might hear on the Disney channel is not meant to be a complete slight on the band. They have some decent songs and her voice is tough as nails. One of my favorite female voices out there.
Great music is great music the interuppters make great music that's all that matters people worrying about who "belongs" in the scene are probably missing out on some great music
I agree. But I also appreciate punctuation. 🤣🤣🤣
didn't realize Amy had been in the music business for 23 years, I like some songs they are pretty good
Yeah she's been around a long ass time!
what makes ska / Jamaican music unique is its unusual four triplets drumming technique in a 4/4 time sig because the bass and guitar play on the off beat. the majority of 'ska' punk bands drum using the normal '4 to floor' so the guitars and bass can not be played durring the off beat... the interrupters and other similar punks bands are actually not playing ska what so ever. just listen to the The Aggrolites then listen to this band and maybe what the wrote will make more sense. prob not, i'm a poor writer. or even listen to Tim Armstrong - a poets life [i think thats the title ?] that record is a masterpiece
Yeah, this is ska-punk, not ska
Also, I love The Aggrolites and A Poets Life is ABSOLUTELY a classic.
They are awesome live
Yes they are. My wife's first punk show was them and Rancid back in 2018. Such a good time
I've tried my best to like this band, but when they play I just don't believe them.
That's kinda what I was dealing with. But when I looked into them, I found out a lot of stuff that made my concerns or whatever seems silly. They're a very professional group of musicians so they can come off robotic. But that's bc they care about their craft. But yeah, I can totally see where you're coming from
@@thepunkrockreview The brothers are fine players and Aimee compliments them. Their sound seems recycled and numbingly predictable.
@@ML-nj4qi ok, I can't argue that, lol.
I don't like ska but I like The Interupters.
They aren't a typical ska band so I totally get that
Love them!!
I love em. Glad they’re helping keepi ska alive!
Kinda the conclusion I came to as well, lol
They did keep referring to themselves as a 2-tone band, jerry dammers passed the comment of how he didn't remember signing them. It's the marketing of them that some people are tired with. Being sold as some lost 2-tone/2-tone revival band.
I've never heard them referred to as that, personally. And just bc Jerry Dammers says something, doesn't make it true. Altho dude is a legend of course...
Honestly, they could easily be the best punk/ska band of the last 25 years. Not sure why they have so many haters.
I mean, I adamantly disagree with that statement, but everyone can feel how they want about it. But I mean, the reason they have so many haters is layed out in this video. Between their "polished sound", rumors of how they started, seemingly easy road to success, and Aimee being on Infowars, it's easy to see why people hate on them. People love an underdog up until they're no longer that. Success breeds jealousy, and jealousy breeds hatred. It's dumb, this band is great. But they're not the best punk band of the last 25 years. That's wild to say, they're barely a punk band. Now ska band? I disagree personally, but they're up there for sure. Top 3 I'd say? I'd put Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto above them. Maybe a cpl more, but they're up there for sure
“They” didn’t release my album because it had the word revolution. Ya she was drinking the Alex jones kool-aid.
It's easy to fall into that stuff when it's right in front of you. But take a step back and it becomes obviously pretty silly
Not sure what her political views are now, but the brothers at least preach about unity and anti-racism, anti-sexism, which kind of balances that out for me. Growing up in Montana and being in a foster home, I could see how she could have picked up some right wing or libertarian views. She's had a lot of stuff to work out, so I'll cut her some slack for now... as long as she doesn't come out in support of Trump. That would be a deal breaker for me.
Any band with 2 or more siblings seen to know to keep it together...you work hard sound good you can book thousand head venues...open up for national act kiss the right asses get your name out there....success???
Huh?
Very nice critique of silly punk snobs.
Oh for sure, and I'm not claiming I've never done that nonsense. That's exactly why I made the video tbh, bc I caught myself worrying too much about things that ultimately don't matter
@@thepunkrockreview Yeah, I thought you articulated the whole thing really well and honestly. 👍
